Today I went a little bit out of my comfort zone and bought this new light fixture for my dining room.  I was set in my mind on getting two chandeliers to swag across the large farmhouse table but then I saw this light fixture!!!! I was drawn to it because you could use old vintage ball jars as shades.  It is a little more industrial than cottage in my mind but I think I like it.  It still gives me the farmhouse vibe and I am hoping to find some wide mouth vintage ball jars at the next flea market to use as shades.  I was thinking of painting it a cream or white.  What do you think???? My hubby likes the dark and says it gives some contrast to the room!!!! Love when the hubs gives some decor comments!!!!! I think he may be right so it stays dark for now.  I would love to hear from all of you on what you think of the light and the color etc.  Thanks for your input. 





I was thinking maybe when I get the vintage ball jars that will help and also maybe some burlap bling on the jar lids.  I might be playing with this one for awhile.

    I don't know where you found this chandelier, but it is AWESOME! YES, I agree with your Hubby, it has a wonderful contrast, and looks fabulous! It's a winner/keeper! Where did you find? Roxie

      Well hello Roxie how are you?? I am getting use to it and it is growing on me. I just had my mind set on a traditional chandelier in there but I think once I change out the jars that came with the light with vintage ball jars I will like it even more. I found this gem at Lowes!!!!!! It is crazy but there it was in the lighting department!!!! They had the one in the store set up with the vintage ball jars that were clear and that is what caught my eye. I just hope I can find clear vintage wide mouth jars at the flea market. All my vintage jars are the reg. opening so I will have to hunt the wide mouth ones down!!!! Hope you had a great week end and are doing great. Thanks for coming by.     I love it!!! I think it looks great just like it is, but I also think it would look great painted white. I would love to have one for my dining room to go over my farmhouse table that my hubby built for me.

      Thanks Cindy. It is growing on me. I guess I just had something else in my mind to hang until I found this one at Lowes of all places. They even had it set up on display with vintage ball jars that is what caught my eye. I was then drawn to it. I am leaving it brown for awhile to see how I like it.     You might try a technique on the light covers that I've seen popping up lately . . . Mod Podge and food coloring to color them Mason Jar aqua (or any color you like). If you don't like it, it's not permanent and will wash off. I'm not sold on the dark base and would tone that down a bit if it were me. Just my 2-cents worth . . . love your style.

    Hmmmm. I'm going to voice a contrary opinion: I'd paint it white. It looks lovely just the way it is, but one of the characteristics of classis cottage style is lots of details unified by color...in this case, white. It keeps all that detail from looking too cluttered. While it looks nice as is, using vintage mason jars in a color will complicate with more detail and likely become distracting. If the jars are clear, you might want to keep it the same. If the jars are colored, painting the fixture whie will keep it from looking cluttered. As long as the original jars remain on the fixture, I wouldn't bother to change it. Adding colored mason jars would incline me to paint the fixture white. BTW, this is a gorgeous score for your dining room!

      I kinda agree with you. If I am going to do the mason vintage jars they will be clear not blue or green. The jars on there now came with the vixture and they are very close to the mason jars just not as vintage. I hate clutter and do not like things that are not simple or become too distracting so maybe painting is a good idea. I am going to give it some time. Thanks for your input.

    I love it love. I think I would play with it some dark yes 1 or 2 things poped into my mind the minute I saw it.
    1. Attached some crystals coming bown the wires
    2. cover the wires with burlap and add a little sparkle on the way down

    But no matter what you do I love it!

    Definitely keep it dark. Isn't every room supposed to have something black in it to ground it and anchor it? I fear that in white it would just blend into the background. You have a gorgeous home. Envy!!

    Its nice but I personally would put molding around the top of it.(by the ceiling)to me it looks like a 2x4 on the ceiling.It would give it your own personal touch.:)

    Nice to meet you here in blogland, I came over from Becky's. Your dining room wall has run away with my heart............it is so wonderful, and the rest of your home is a delight as well. So creative and so fresh and lovely. Now for the light fixture....in the first pic
    it looks very dark, and I was thinking it is just a lil too much, so maybe to paint the base that is against the ceiling might take away some of the darkness, love the part with the wires hanging and glass holders. I really like the dark contrast as your hubby says, and in pic 3 it doesn't look as dark and looks like it matches your french bakery sign. Love that sign, so cute! Anyway, thank you for sharing your lovely creations with us,

      Thanks for coming by and taking time to comment. I know about the fixture being dark especially with all the white and cream in there. I am thinking about what to do with it for now I need to let it be like it is until I come up with something. I was thinking of painting the base and then maybe do some kind of burlap or linen cord down the cords and replacing the jars with vintage clear mason jars or I even thought about putting some lace around the clear jars I have now to bling them up a little bit. I am going to the flea market this week end so I am going to see if I can find some of the vintage clear jars. I have alot of vintage clear mason jars but they have to be the wide mouth to fit. I do like having a little contrast but I am a cream and white girl and the french bakerty sign was as dark as I was going in there!!!! Thanks again for the suggestions. Love blog world!!!!

    I love the pictures of your home! I read the above before I saw the picture and thought the light fixture would need to blend, but when I saw the pics, the hubby is right, it offers a nice contrast and the eye will go up to the light to view yet another piece of eye candy, it does compliment as is.     I found you through Pinterest today. Love all your pics of your home, you have so many adorable things to enjoy in it. I love this lamp and have spent a couple hours looking for it on the Lowes website but have not come across it yet.
