Here is the German legend that this gift is derived from:
Legend of the Bird Nest
According to an old German legend, if you find a bird nest in the tree you harvest for Christmas, you will have an entire year of health and happiness.
We hope you will tuck this nest in one of the branches of your tree with all the best wishes of the old legend.
All you need is three items
plastic small gift or treat bag
ribbon
bird nest ( I got these bird nests from the dollar store and I have to tell you they are fab for a buck)
The little bird nest from the dollar store and the plastic treat bags from Walmart and the ribbon from ribbon I had on hand. |
Add the little bird nest to the bag and tie it off with the ribbon and then you can do up a tag or print off the legend onto pretty card stock and tie or tuck this onto your bag. These are so easy peasy!!!! My neighbors loved these little nests when I gave each of them one for their Christmas tree. I think the special wish and legend of the story told make them a very special gift. You will not find anything cuter or thoughtful like this to give as a gift to family and friends at the Malls!!!! For the price you cannot go wrong . Hope you will think about doing these for family and friends this Christmas. It will be a special and thoughtful gift that they will have to treasure for a long time. ReplyDeleteHi Sherry,
DeleteThanks for coming by. I was on your blog too and love the wreath you made. I bet that looks so pretty from outside. Beautiful.
Kris
They are darling, and what a great gift idea:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn,
DeleteI was on your blog and love it. I love that you cut your own tree. I grew up in Michigan and we always cut down our own tree at Christmas. Brought back some nice memories for me. You need a cute nest now for that lovely tree.
Kris
Thse are so sweet... what a great idea for our Sunday School class party... I promptly went out and "stole" a bunch of spanish moss from the overhanging branches of our neighbor's tree and put bags full in the freezer until I am ready to use it. I will use it for the nests. The hard part will be finding eggs this time of year. Found some wooden ones at Hobby Lobby for a shelf making for daughter- but they were expensive for this project. Thanks for the terrific idea and have a blessed Christmas!
ReplyDeleteNancy,
DeleteOhhhhh how sweet for your sunday school class party. I think it is so sweet you are going to make your own nests that will make these even more special. This is such a easy but thoughtful gift. I bet they will be adorable.
Kris
I love this idea, and I have always loved the legend. Many years ago, we cut a tree and when we brought it in, I found a small bird nest in the branches! I gave it a really good spraying with hair spray (all I had at the time to help preserve it, and it worked!). That nest was one of my favorite Christmas decorations, I had it for years before it finally crumbled. I will have to check out the dollar store for a faux one!! Your home is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have a cute story about when I was a kid growing up in Michigan and we would cut down our own tree each year and I learned about this legend in the 3rd grade and when we went to get our tree I convinced my dad to look for a tree with a nest in it. It was knee deep snow and a blizzard that day and yet my dad let me hunt for that tree and I found one. We froze but we got that lovely legend tree for that Christmas!!!!

What a great idea. I (and all my kids) each have a real abandoned nest in our trees for good luck. I have had my own for almost 20 years and have added a few little bluejay feathers I found on the ground.
