When my husband took the job up where we live now as the fire chief we moved out of our 4 bedroom two story home and moved into this 3 bedroom little lake house ranch. Our little house is a two person nest now that we are empty nesters. I love this house small enough to manage with all my decor change ups and big enough for comfort.
This is the last room on the tour. Thanks to all of you who have come along for the tour and all your sweet comments along the way. I appreciate all of you and your nice comments.
Here we go the Family Gathering Place:
After I started to post these pictures of my living room I found this chippy ladder out in the shed and begged the hubby to dig it out of the shed and bring it in and he did. In the middle of winter in Chicago he dug out this chippy ladder for me!!! Love that man!!! I took down the old shutter and bird house I had there and put the ladder there and I will hang my throws on it. I moved the old shutter decor to the front wall entry. I think I like the ladder here better. |
Love the chippy fun ladder. One of my new favs in this room. You know how I love to incorporate things with history into my home. |
I do love the the way the light comes into this room all day. It is a west exposure so late afternoon I have a lot of sunlight. Today was pretty cloudy and raining but the room still gets a lot of natural light. |
This is an old window hung and then I added this old frame with burlap and buttons and then added a clock on top of that for the room. |
I love cottage and gardening so my two favorite things are in the themes throughout my home. I love things with flowers and also birds, vintage bird houses and nests. That chippy birdhouse on my entertainment unit was an actual birdhouse in someone's back yard. I love that I scored that at a yard sale some time ago. The little banner hard to read in this picture but it is burlap with the words "4 Rent" on it. |
I am currently on the hunt for a nice area rug for this room. Just have not found what I want yet. I am thinking maybe a little pattern and maybe splash of color for the rug. Just have to find the right fit. |
This is my entry way hall in front of the living room. I re hung the old shutter and vintage bird house arrangement I made here instead of over my reading chair. I like the ladder now by my reading chair to put my throws on. |

Jumping in at Country White's Weekend
http://thecountryfarmhome.blogspot.com/2013/02/country-whites-weekend-3-good-morning.html
Love your place and what a great find with the ladder. I just changed my slipcovers to white, with hubby, teen boys, and critters I have a hard time keeping them white:( Mine are so hard to get off and on that it's a struggle when its wash time. Do you find yours are hard to remove? I have the JCPenny Linden Street line and all the covers are made from heavy denim, maybe thats why they are so sturdy and difficult to work with.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, I love your white nest! I like how you incorporate old doors and shutters into your decor. Very nice! Jean
ReplyDeleteA beautiful sea of white. Would you show that pretty flower arrangement on the wall more closely? It looks so neat. I'm with Dawn, I love the ladder!
ReplyDeleteLuv the brown of the Mr's recliner against all the white. Plus that ladder is really perfect to fill up that corner behind your reading chair. My Mr. and I worked last weekend as a joint effort to create a nice old chippy ladder. I also have a throw on it.
ReplyDeleteCome on over ans take a peek...
Thanks for sharing your home.
Cheers, Gee

Jane
Hi Jane,
DeleteThat coffee table was made by my husband. We had an old cedar piece of fencing that blocked the air conditioner from blowing on my flowers out off the deck in the summer. It was pretty ratty so we were going to throw it out and then I saw those beautiful cedar slates and said to the hubby can you make this into a table. He said yes and we found some stock legs at Home Depot and there you have it a new table. I need something square with my sectional and could not find anything I liked so this was the perfect solution. Thanks for asking. It was a pretty easy table to make and I love that I recycled something old into new!!!
Kris
I love the new hubby chair. I truly adore every inch of your home. You can tell how much you LOVE it and enjoy all your decor changes and touches. Thanks for sharing the tour room by room.

This week I am starting a new link up party called "Sunday Open House". I hope you will link up this lovely post to share with my readers.
I have enjoyed the tour. You have given me loads of inspiration. Love all your flowers and birdie stuff. I have several ladders around my place-I love them. They are fun!! Thanks for sharing. ~Susie~
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I love your home, it just looks perfect in every way! You use items so creatively, how in the world do you think of all those different ways to do that? This house should be in a magazine if it already hasn't been. LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't get enough of your house--all the chippy paint and white and ruffles...I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour home is absolutely charming and I appreciate all the hard work you put into photographing everything to share with us! I love the placement of the ladder behind your chair. I have an old ladder that I keep moving from place to place, but it's never quite right. Someday I'll figure it all out. :)
ReplyDeleteYour living room has so many wonderful architectural elements that I LOVE!! The whole room looks comfy, friendly, and inviting.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Thanks Mary Alice. It looks intimidating with all the white but it really is a comfy place to be. The sectional slipcover is made out of 12 oz denim and it washes really nice and comes out softer with each washing. I don't wash it much as it is a pain and takes about 3 loads to do the whole sectional so I try to avoid that. I just throw a blanket on the part my basset hound likes to get up on. I guess I did not show the ugly dog blanket that is usually laying on that part of the sectional!!!!
DeleteStay warm and have a great Friday.
Kris
Love the ladder in this room...it looks awesome there!! I have so enjoyed your home tour. Your home is just beautiful!! You have given me the white bug...got to get my paint brush out and get to painting some of my pieces white.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
You really do have the sweetest husband! Love the ladder! So happy your man has his own comfy chair now, I think the leather looks great with the white!!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a ladder like that for a few years, and here you had one right in your shed. It looks wonderful there. I just never tire of pouring over pictures of your cozy, beautiful home. So much to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Quirky Vistas
Hi Liz,
DeleteI don't want to tease you but I have a twin of that ladder still out in the shed. I got them because my husband is going to build me a summer trellis in my garden with them so I threw them into the shed until summer. I really would love to find an apple pickers ladder where it goes from small at the top to larger on the bottom steps. I saw one at the flea last summer and passed it up. I really regretted that. So I am hoping to find one before summer when the hubby makes my outdoor trellis and takes my pretty ladder from the living room!
Kris
love the reading corner, kris:) and the entry is just adorable! it's a challenge fitting everything into a smaller home, but, you do an awesome job of it!
ReplyDeleteKris, not only is your home totally charming but so are you. As I read how you described your rooms, it's easy to see that you love your home and thoroughly enjoy decorating it. I use an old apple ladder for quilts and throws out on the screened porch and love it. Yours, next to your reading nook, is perfect! Will your husband being enjoying the Super Bowl from his good looking leather chair? xo
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn,
DeleteThanks so much for your very sweet comments always. Yes the Mr. will be enjoying the super bowl in a reclined position!!! He will watch but wishes his beloved Chicago Bears would be in it. I saw an apple ladder one time at the flea and passed it up and ever since have regretted it. I love the way they go smaller to larger in the steps makes them adorable. I bet your looks cute on your porch.
Kris
Hi Kris,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell you that I absolutely enjoyed my visit to your lovely home. I cannot wait to see what you post next. I have a suggestion for you - I would love to see the different magazines and books that you use for inspiration, or maybe some favorite blogs and Pinterest boards. Thanks for the great tour.
*Hugs*
Kris I wanted to thank you for taking me into your beautiful home, I have enjoyed my time with you here so much! I am just so taken with your vision, the creativity in the unique accessories and the way you use them and the little pieces of history you share your home with! Any room could be the cover of a magazine... truly, any room! You and your hubby made this little cottage into a beautiful home and something to be very proud of! You can see and feel that this has truly been a labor of love...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
~ Pendra
Pendra,
DeleteThank you so much. You are always so sweet. This little cottage has been a labor of love for my husband and myself. I have the decor vision and he has the tools and ability to make my visions come to life. I am so lucky to have a handy man husband. We do all the work ourselves otherwise this little cottage would not be what it is. Thanks for coming along for the tour.
Kris
It is all so lovely. We downsized and have never regretted it. We have no grands yet, and when we do, it might be an issue, but we will cross that bridge then. I love having less to clean and more time on the beach.
ReplyDeleteLove all your tweaking.
Well, do I have to say it again????? Probably not, but I will anyway.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT ALL!!!
I think the ladder behind your chair makes it look more open.....good choice....=)
and of course love all the old shutters, and white everywhere.
thanks for the lovely home tour.

PS still not sure how you live with all that white. love the looks, but it would never survive at my house.
It looks fantastic!! I think this is the only time I've ever seen a sectional that looked cottagey and cozy. It's amazing. Plus all the great touches. I really struggle with accessorizing, and you just are so good at it!! I'm taking notes!

Something I just realized about what I love about your home...you use silk flowers and they are absolutely gorgeous on how you have them. They look real! I was telling Mom about one of your mailboxes on a post with the flowers coming out...I have so many mailboxes and am definitely making my own for my porch. Once again, I am in awe of your home. Love the two spaces flipflopped...works perfectly!

I'm new to your blog and am now in love with your style!! The chippy ladder to put your throws on is exactly what my living room needs but I didn't know that until I read this so thank you! I look forward to seeing more of your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Hi Judy,
DeleteThanks for becoming a follower. I appreciate that very much. I love to use the ladder for my throws so glad you are going to do that in your living room. So much cuter than throwing them in a basket or laying them on the couch. Thanks for your sweet comments.
