When is a Door(s) a Wall?

Yeah!!! Hump Day.  How is your week going?

Mine did not start out so good.  We had a tragic accident with my brand new I Mac computer that I have only had for 5 weeks and made only one payment on!!!!! While doing a project in my office using vintage doors my hubby dropped one of the doors onto the computer and shattered the screen.

Yep!!! brand new screen ruined.  My husband felt so bad but it is what it is and we took her to Apple and they put her in the Apple hospital for a face lift.  Since all the components of the computer are behind the screen there was the threat the computer was trashed.  I thought oh not a 5 week old computer that we have only made one payment on!!!! Apple ran a diagnostic check on her and her internals were all good so she just needed a new screen.  So I have been without my computer for a few days.  Hoping to hear from them today or tomorrow that she is ready to come home.  I miss her!!!!
Anyway on to the post!!!! I know a lot of you thought I was going to make an arbor out of the old vintage doors I got while junkin and you would have been right that was the original plan but then I got the idea to do something different with them.  That happens a lot with me!!!:)

I wanted to partition off my office some how from the dining room.  This back area where I made my office was a closet when we moved in and was completely closed off. Just a total waste of space.  So I made it into my office.   I wanted to still have an open feeling and let that light from that window come in but still want some division from my dining room.

These old vintage doors and porch posts did the trick.  I have some separation but still have light coming through to keep it from feeling closed up in there.

Loved that the doors still had their lovely old knobs and locks still on them.
Now I have the division of having my office feel like a separate room but still with an open feel.  Door hoarder here loves that I could have the hubby make me a wall out of old vintage doors.
Here it the back side to the new wall of doors.  I love these old chippy porch posts as the anchors.

I love that the light still streams in from that window to keep it bright.

Love my little stair rail and post to add some chippy bling.

Well there you have it!!!! Doors made into a wall.
Hopefully today I will be getting my computer back!!!
Make sure you check back on Saturday for another Spotlight blogger.  Susan and I have a couple of really special bloggers for you to get to know better.
Have a great rest of the week
Kris

  3. Oh Kris, you never crease to amaze me with your creative ideas. What a great idea and it works so well. I love it.
So sorry about your computer, but at least the whole computer was broken and the screen can be fixed. I am limping along with my lap top - need a new one and every time I get the money saved - bingo something major breaks - like a new hot water heater - $1,300. so I have to wait until after Christmas.
Glad the computer can be fixed. Have a great week.

  5. Kris, this is unbelievably awesome! I'm pretty sure this cancels out dropping a door on your computer. {poor hubby}. Is this free standing, or is it attached to the floor somehow? I'm having a hard time coming up with words...it's just too amazing.

  25. Kris- THAT looks FANTASTIC! You and your doors! LOL I just love it and I think it makes a perfect separation and yet, like you said, still lets lots of light in.

Hey- question for you - Did you put your Mac on a regular credit card? If you did you can most likely collect from them. There is some kind of automatic insurance on lots of things. My friend found that out and she filed a claim and they credited her loan with the amount of the repair. Just a thought- xo Diana

    1. Thanks for taking time to come by and leave your sweet comment. I have gotten a lot of questions about how that new "door" wall is attached. It is pretty simple. My husband attached the one post at the top to the cabinet already hanging in my office and then he used some kind of long screws to anchor both bottoms of the post on each end to the floor. This way if we ever take the wall down we will only have two small screw holes in the wood floor that can be filled with wood putty. These screws are long and anchor into the subfloor under the wood floor. So I love that we did not have to damage the floor in anyway to put up this wall. It is anchored pretty good we do not want anymore mishaps of doors falling into brand new computers!!!!! I am going to post this response on my post so I hope you will see it. You are a noreply comment blogger so I had no way to respond to you personally. Thanks for taking time to come by and leave your comment.

  34. Oh, Kris! Poor you damaging your new computer like that, I really feel for you, and I must admit it made me not feel quite so bad that I dropped my Kindle yesterday while packing to come home from Spain. Stupidly, I didn't try it to see if it had broken, and so didn't discover until after take off that it was totally kaput!! I was doubly upset as I'd been saving a new book to read on the journey home! Grrrr! Still, at least I've had it two or three years, so if it can't be fixed it's not as bad as what might have happened to your computer - see, gotta look on the bright side!

Anyway, LOVE the new look for your office! Those old doors make a fabulous wall, what a clever idea.

    Hugs from

  40. That sucks about your computer - definitely not a good way to start the day. Okay, what a creatively awesome use of those doors and railing - so pretty!!! (I was one of the ones certain you were making an arbor). I've got to ask...how are those doors mounted so you don't have another computer crash? I can see they are not attached to the ceiling or the wall so I'm assuming they are attached to the floor - but how? Curious minds need to know ;)

  42. Glad that your computer is ok. Now lets get to the doors, you are amazing and this is just gorgeous. I so love it!! I am so very jealous of all the great pieces you find. I had to tell the truth, jealous!!!! I may have to send my husband to some of the places we used to go to when I was able to walk better. He is cool he would go and come back with the right thing. Very trustworthy.

  43. Tell your hubby not to feel too bad about the computer accident. Consider what it would cost to have a carpenter come in and build your wall! That is, IF you could find one talented enough to do it. Just chalk it up to hazards of the job.
Now that you have a new wall, are you going to attach décor to it? You could, you know.

  48. You may want to consider adding your computer to your house insurance. You have to have it listed separately. Costs about $20/yr. and covers things like dropping the computer. . . or a door falling on it. . .but check with agent to be sure what is covered. ;)

  71. I came over from SYDC. Love what you did with the doors. I had thought about doing something like that at one time in our previous home, for the same reason you did. Now I know how cool it would have looked. Happy you can get your Mac fixed. I trashed mine a year ago when I spilled a Starbucks Café Mocha on it. Lost everything. You're fortunate you didn't have that problem. Take care. Nancy

  72. Oh, so perfect Kris,
I wanted to hang a single door that helped to block some of the view of my stove from its entry of the kitchen. So as you see we think a lot alike when it comes to blocking off things or areas.
This works great for you, and also adds charm like none other.

Thank you for taking the time to visit me, your such a doll.
