Mine did not start out so good. We had a tragic accident with my brand new I Mac computer that I have only had for 5 weeks and made only one payment on!!!!! While doing a project in my office using vintage doors my hubby dropped one of the doors onto the computer and shattered the screen.
Anyway on to the post!!!! I know a lot of you thought I was going to make an arbor out of the old vintage doors I got while junkin and you would have been right that was the original plan but then I got the idea to do something different with them. That happens a lot with me!!!:)
These old vintage doors and porch posts did the trick. I have some separation but still have light coming through to keep it from feeling closed up in there. |
Loved that the doors still had their lovely old knobs and locks still on them. |
Now I have the division of having my office feel like a separate room but still with an open feel. Door hoarder here loves that I could have the hubby make me a wall out of old vintage doors. |
Here it the back side to the new wall of doors. I love these old chippy porch posts as the anchors. |
I love that the light still streams in from that window to keep it bright. |
Love my little stair rail and post to add some chippy bling. |

It looks great, Kris! Such a good idea and I like that you aren't losing out on that natural light.
ReplyDeleteyou are so very talented....love your space...
DeleteWow, I love it, such a creative use of vintage chippy doors by 'Kris the Door Hoarder' lol. It fits your decor perfectly.
ReplyDeleteOh Kris, you never crease to amaze me with your creative ideas. What a great idea and it works so well. I love it.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your computer, but at least the whole computer was broken and the screen can be fixed. I am limping along with my lap top - need a new one and every time I get the money saved - bingo something major breaks - like a new hot water heater - $1,300. so I have to wait until after Christmas.
Glad the computer can be fixed. Have a great week.
Mary
Kris
ReplyDeleteYou are such a creative thinker! It looks great and what a find.
All's well that ends well, right? Poor hubby must have felt rotten.
Kris, this is unbelievably awesome! I'm pretty sure this cancels out dropping a door on your computer. {poor hubby}. Is this free standing, or is it attached to the floor somehow? I'm having a hard time coming up with words...it's just too amazing.
ReplyDeleteOH.MY.STARS. I have no words for how awesome this is!
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness! Look at you.....in your PRETTY, one-of-a-kind OFFICE!! Those doors are beautiful!!! This is PERFECT for your office/personal space get-a-way! This UNIQUE idea will be pinned over and over.........Door Chic-ness- You are! Blessings~~~Roxie

ReplyDeleteI am writing a post titled "OH, MY!" and a picture of your office "wall" is going into it for sure. Your office wall with the baskets hanging from the rod is already in the post.

ReplyDeleteNancy
These are great! Blessings, Becky A Corner Cottage
ReplyDeleteThis is just too fabulous, Kris!!! I love the transom across the top of the doors. Perfect, perfect, perfect room divider!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the disaster with your computer :-(. And a Mac at that. Thank goodness they can fix the screen.
Mary Alice
So glad you are happy with your doors...
ReplyDeleteOver from Ivy.....
Fantastic....that is really thinking outside the box. I would have NEVER thought of it!
ReplyDeleteKris- THAT looks FANTASTIC! You and your doors! LOL I just love it and I think it makes a perfect separation and yet, like you said, still lets lots of light in.
ReplyDeleteHey- question for you - Did you put your Mac on a regular credit card? If you did you can most likely collect from them. There is some kind of automatic insurance on lots of things. My friend found that out and she filed a claim and they credited her loan with the amount of the repair. Just a thought- xo Diana
What fabulous doors. Great idea for a divider. Sorry about the Mac. That will be my next computer.
ReplyDeleteOh Kris, sorry about your computer, but oh my those doors are awesome! You are sooo creative, I love them. I am very curious on how you secured them??? Please let us know.

Thanks for taking time to come by and leave your sweet comment. I have gotten a lot of questions about how that new "door" wall is attached. It is pretty simple. My husband attached the one post at the top to the cabinet already hanging in my office and then he used some kind of long screws to anchor both bottoms of the post on each end to the floor. This way if we ever take the wall down we will only have two small screw holes in the wood floor that can be filled with wood putty. These screws are long and anchor into the subfloor under the wood floor. So I love that we did not have to damage the floor in anyway to put up this wall. It is anchored pretty good we do not want anymore mishaps of doors falling into brand new computers!!!!! I am going to post this response on my post so I hope you will see it. You are a noreply comment blogger so I had no way to respond to you personally. Thanks for taking time to come by and leave your comment.
DeleteKris
So sorry about your computer! Recently my finger was a casualty when my spouse dropped something.
ReplyDeleteThe doors look so pretty! Are they bolted to something? I was trying to figure that out from the photos.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
ReplyDeletechippy heaven!
be blessed

Kris...those doors are perfect for your office space!! Love them with all that chippy white goodness!! Sorry to hear about your computer and I hope that you get it back soon.
ReplyDeletehugs,

Wow Kris, these doors work perfectly as a divider and fit right in with your decor perfectly. What a wonderful space to work in. Good luck with the screen! x Julie
ReplyDeleteLove it..I cannot help but think looking at those old doors how many people passed through them . I think that is the charm for me of antiques or vintage items.Love you creativity I always look forward to your post.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea and it looks wonderful. You need to do something special for your hubby!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kris! Poor you damaging your new computer like that, I really feel for you, and I must admit it made me not feel quite so bad that I dropped my Kindle yesterday while packing to come home from Spain. Stupidly, I didn't try it to see if it had broken, and so didn't discover until after take off that it was totally kaput!! I was doubly upset as I'd been saving a new book to read on the journey home! Grrrr! Still, at least I've had it two or three years, so if it can't be fixed it's not as bad as what might have happened to your computer - see, gotta look on the bright side!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, LOVE the new look for your office! Those old doors make a fabulous wall, what a clever idea.
Hugs from
Judi - Back in the UK!
You (and your style) are so amazing. It is such a treat to visit your blog and see the wonderfully creative projects!
ReplyDeleteOMG...I absolutely love the doors as a wall! They are gorgeous and just perfect for the whole space....LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteTotally impressed!!!! Love it! Visiting from SYC
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous!!!!!!! What a fabulous idea! Hmm...I have old doors and old posts...wonder what room I can divide...lol
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
What a great way to define the space but keep it open and airy! Wish I could find doors like that! sooo jealous! Best wishes for your computer - we've had to make some Apple ER trips too- not fun!
ReplyDeleteThat sucks about your computer - definitely not a good way to start the day. Okay, what a creatively awesome use of those doors and railing - so pretty!!! (I was one of the ones certain you were making an arbor). I've got to ask...how are those doors mounted so you don't have another computer crash? I can see they are not attached to the ceiling or the wall so I'm assuming they are attached to the floor - but how? Curious minds need to know ;)
ReplyDeleteMarie@InteriorFrugalista
Marie,
DeleteHi and thanks for your questions I hope you will come back to read this since you are a noreply comment blogger so I have not way to answer you. Look at the comment I left for Simple Pleasures and I told her how we attached the doors to keep them up right!!! We do not want anymore computer issues. Thanks for your nice comment.
Kris
You are a clever, clever, clever woman, Kris!!! Not only did that work, but it looks GREAT!
ReplyDeleteChrista
Glad that your computer is ok. Now lets get to the doors, you are amazing and this is just gorgeous. I so love it!! I am so very jealous of all the great pieces you find. I had to tell the truth, jealous!!!! I may have to send my husband to some of the places we used to go to when I was able to walk better. He is cool he would go and come back with the right thing. Very trustworthy.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Tell your hubby not to feel too bad about the computer accident. Consider what it would cost to have a carpenter come in and build your wall! That is, IF you could find one talented enough to do it. Just chalk it up to hazards of the job.
ReplyDeleteNow that you have a new wall, are you going to attach décor to it? You could, you know.
*Smiles*
What a bummer with the computer! Your husband must have felt terrible! He sure made it up to you with the vintage door divider! It looks fantastic! Wish I had room in my house for soemthing like this! I just love looking at all your old wonderfully chippy junk/treasures! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWell if you aren't the most clever person in the whole world. I love this. How fun and so beautiful and unique too. Looks amazing. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteSorry about your computer. Hope it's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteYou need to watch The Bronson Pinchot Project, because this looks exactly like something he would do. It is crazy beautiful.
Ouch about the computer! The doors are just fabulous looking.
ReplyDeleteYou may want to consider adding your computer to your house insurance. You have to have it listed separately. Costs about $20/yr. and covers things like dropping the computer. . . or a door falling on it. . .but check with agent to be sure what is covered. ;)
ReplyDeleteGoldie
You and your husband are absolutely fearless when it comes to trying unconventional things in your home! Your new "wall" is fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your computer and I hope it's out of the hospital soon. :(
So scary about your computer. Glad they are able to repair it. Love, love the doors. What a perfect idea to define the space while still giving you light. xo Laura

What a terrific idea, Kris! I love old doors too, and they look perfect as your new divider. You will have so much fun decorating them for the seasons, I bet. Your handy hubby did a great job! So sorry about your computer!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, you did a great job! I could work there all day!
ReplyDeleteSandy
I came over from SYDC. Love what you did with the doors. I had thought about doing something like that at one time in our previous home, for the same reason you did. Now I know how cool it would have looked. Happy you can get your Mac fixed. I trashed mine a year ago when I spilled a Starbucks Café Mocha on it. Lost everything. You're fortunate you didn't have that problem. Take care. Nancy
ReplyDeleteOh, so perfect Kris,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to hang a single door that helped to block some of the view of my stove from its entry of the kitchen. So as you see we think a lot alike when it comes to blocking off things or areas.
This works great for you, and also adds charm like none other.
Thank you for taking the time to visit me, your such a doll.
Xoxo

That is so fabulous, Kris! I love it and it makes the perfect separation. Would love something similar someday separating my living and dining areas. That husband of yours is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteForgot to say, sorry about your computer, so sad!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing Kris!! Brilliant - love how the light can pass through and you have your own little space but you're not hidden away. You and your hubby are quite the team! :)
ReplyDeleteOh... except for the 'accident' part. Hope the new baby is home from the apple hospital and feeling much better. Ouch!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this, Kris! So cool.
