After taking down the Christmas decor I decided to start the change up a few things that were easy peasy.
I flip flopped my bedroom drapes with the living room drapes. These are not as fufu for the living room space. |

I am a retired RN. I love all things white, chippy, vintage and cottage chic. I am married to my best friend and handyman who helps me make our cottage chic. You can read more on my About Me page.
That needs to be my motto this year, Kris ~ no money makeovers! : ) I love your simple changes that made a big difference. I love those curtains that you moved to your living room. Great idea on the clock, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Love the curtain change, it looks fabulous. The clock is totally amazing, now that is what I call genius. I can't wait to see all the new changes in 2014. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI love your changes. That clock is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou are too clever. I love the idea you came up with for the clock and what a great idea to swap out the curtains.
ReplyDeleteWe don't really need to spend money to achieve change.
I need to get busy with changes we need to make. Steve and I are off to Santa Barbara today to visit a reclaimed wood business. We want to make some changes to our dining room table and have decided that we can do it ourselves.
Wow joining those two clocks together was Genius!!! How in the world do you come up with these ideas??? The curtain switch works great by the way.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a few simple switches can do to a room. I do that a lot myself. It's fun to use things in new places and in new ways. The best part is using your creativity and not your pocket book! I often think that anyone can just go buy the look they want, but few can use their resources to get the look. So, when it's done on a budget, it means more to me. I think it's a lot more fun that way too. Love that grandfather clock makeover.
ReplyDeleteyour clock idea is so clever, kris! the two pieces look like they were meant to be:) love the curtain swap, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart save for your grandfather clock!!
ReplyDeleteGreat change ups! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous !! You continue to amaze me!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see all your change-up ideas! The clock change-up was genius!!
ReplyDeleteThose were two great ideas and inspiring for the rest of us. I love the clock painted white.
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly what I did in 2013, spent no money and accomplished what I wanted. Sometimes I had to wait a little longer but it can be done. I need to redo my office right now and I was searching through what I had and trying to make it work. Good for you and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteLove the change up of the drapes. I am envious of people that have great natural light in their homes. Meanwhile I take massive doses of Vitamin D. Great idea changing the clock. Hard to believe that clock is from Montgomery Ward - I haven't heard that name is a very long time. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

I guest great minds and all that Kris. I spent today switching up some bits of furniture between the sitting room and living room, and I am thinking some from the sunroom will be switched as well. YEAH ! Lets' hear it for the free redo!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gee
Ahhh so fresh and so wonderful. I started taking some stuff down too. Almost done except the porch because my hubby still has to take down the lights. Love that clock Kris, real deal or not, looks awesome. I am totally into the no money makeovers this year! Happy New Year dear lady, it sure has been a pleasure getting to know you as well. I love your blog and I love your flair for decorating! XO
ReplyDeleteI love what you did to your clocks, Kris! It now looks like a European antique clock! So pretty! I'm looking for a new clock for our living room, too. I took down the JC Penney clock when I painted and it's not going back on the wall. :)
ReplyDeleteWOW, love what you did with the clocks - they look terrific. Like the drape change. I am looking forward to seeing all your changes.
ReplyDeleteEveryone loved my "New Tote" thank you again.
Wishing you and yours a Very Happy New Year..
Mary
simple, no-cost decorating is sometimes the best...what a fresh way to look at your home! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCheryl @ The Creative Me and My McG
Now that was a clever thing to do with the clock…great idea and it looks wonderful!!!….I love the switch of the drapes!..
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and your family Kris!!!
Kris, what a great challenge! I know you'll come up with lots of clever ideas! The clock is one of them-it looks fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
Love the clock...it looks great. I like what you are doing for 2014...getting a new look with using what you already have. My goal for this new year is to get brave enough to paint more of my pieces white. First piece will by a wood trunk that my hubby made for me 35 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI like what you did with the clock and the curtains!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Kris! I have been doing the same thing since the Christmas decs got put away. I've pulled out stuff I've been hoarding and am decluttering stuff I don't love or just don't fit right. Moving things to different rooms and okay, I've made a few purchases but mainly for the main bedroom which never gets any attention so I don't feel too guilty. :) I'm sure there will be a new house tour coming soon. ;) Take care and Happy New Year. Under 2 hours to go here in Australia!
ReplyDeleteHey Kris! Loving the changes. Don't you guys take your decorations down early? Most people in the UK don't take them down until the 6th January. Mind you, by then I'm ready for a change, but because everything always looks so bear I tend to take a few things down each day so that I don't miss all the sparkle quite so much.
ReplyDeleteCurrently in the process of putting up shelves in my new craft room, and am using my FABULOUS electric mitre saw that Paul bought me for Christmas - strange present for a woman, but hey, I'm over the moon with it, and it's already making this job SO much quicker!
Best wishes for the New Year, let's hope it's a good one.
Judi in the UK
Love your changes already, with many more to come I bet! Along those lines, I have always 'shopped my house' and traded things around. In fact, our attic is my in-home antique shop! I drag things down from there that have been put away since we were young marrieds....many years ago! I was needing a lamp to put a shade on that I wanted to use and remembered a lamp in the attic that has been up there for years. Voila! A perfect match, with no money spent. Love those bargains. Thanks for sharing, Vicki in Louisville KY
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki,
DeleteI just joined your circles at least I think I did. Not sure how that whole circle thing works!!! Yep I love shopping my house too and then repurposing things. My motto for 2014 is change ups and no money spent. Have a great start to the new year.
Kris
Sometimes the simplest changes make the most impact.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
DeleteI agree sometimes it is the little changes the make the most impact. Love shopping the house and changing things up for the new year. Happy New Year.
Kris
I hope to do more of that this year - use what I have on hand - both in business and my home. I have a lot of stuff in inventory and I hope to use some of it up and sell it this year to bring in more supplementary income for this family!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE what you did to your clock - that is just beautiful!

what a good idea to change out the curtains. they look perfect. what a genius idea to pair up the two clocks! I love it when I can keep using something that I like even though it needs a little changing up. can't wait to see what else you come up with.
ReplyDeleteYou and your hubby seem to be the energizer bunnies of the décor world. I would love it if you could bottle it up and send me some. With a dash of creativity to go. lol I love all your changes.
ReplyDeleteMy Word for 2014 is Create. My first project for January is new flooring. We are changing our carpeting to vinyl plank because of all the pets that are living here right now.
One last thing. Please forgive me for not emailing you sooner to thank you for my bag. I have no excuse or explanation. Just procrastination. I love my bag. I used it the first day to take the bus to my mental health appointment. It helped me as I don't often have to take a bus. It was a kind of comfort to me because of our friendship.
Have a great year, you are loved and appreciated.
*Smiles*
Hi Kris,
ReplyDeleteSince your home looks like it needs nothing new, no updates, (it's really amazing), I love this idea of updates without spending money. Sometimes this is the most creative thing we can do! I look forward to more ideas. The clock idea was ingenious. :)

Changing up that grandfather clock with the ornate wall clock you have was pure genius! It's so pretty!
