Spotlight: REAL LIFE BEHIND THE BLOGGER
Susan from Must Love Junk, and myself (Kris) Junk Chic Cottage wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before. So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.
There is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.
Every week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a little bit about themselves and their blogs. You will be able to see and read about each of the bloggers on both Susan's and my blog.
Happy Saturday. This week our blogger behind the talent is Lynn from The Vintage Nest. I have come to know Lynn over this past year and her blog and lifestyle are as sweet as she is. Lynn did a really nice introduction so without further a do here is a little about Lynn. Enjoy.
Hello....so happy to see you! My name is Lynn and I belong to the blog The Vintage Nest and the online antique/vintage shop by the same name. I am thrilled to be here at Kris's blog. She and Susan of Must Love Junk have a new feature called "Saturday Spotlight". Thank you Kris for having me.

I live on a "lane"......an honest to goodness winding country dirt/gravel lane, where the only humans that pass by our home are the FedEx/mail lady in the front or the fishing boats in the back. In fact, my postal address has Lane in it. :) Unless they are invited, anyone else coming down the "lane" are lost. :) On my daily walks with my beloved companion, Ben, our golden, we see all kinds of critters and always stop to nuzzle and treat our neighbor's horses.
I have been married to my college sweetheart for 44 years this week. :) He went to college on a football scholarship and I went to an all girl's teacher's college. The photo on the left was just taken a couple weeks ago, the other back in college, just after a football game. We haven't change a bit have we? LOL...Don't say it!!
We have two sons, one living outside Chicago and the other in New York city. They are both funny, handsome, kind, very Southern, mischievous, smarter than their Dad or I, and have grown up to be fine young men, that I am so proud of. I adore my daughter-in-laws and they have given us two sweet little grand-daughters and a very boy grandson, born this past Christmas. We love the beach and try to have family vacations there when we can.
Our home is what I "lovingly" call a farmette, with enough land to never ever finish taking care of. The deer don't really let us have a big garden, so I don't even try anymore. The "farmette" sits on a lake, where he spends all of his free time fishing (when he's not cutting and planting and raking and hauling and tractoring something) . We actually own part of the lake, so he takes great pride in keeping it environmentally beautiful and clean.
We have chickens who make us breakfast daily and give us lots more beautiful eggs for baking and cooking. Their home, which we call the Romantic Roost, was at one time a children's playhouse, built by someone's grandfather. (a Craig's List find) We added the nesting boxes and run. Our chic chicks love nothing more than to sit in the windows of their home and look out at the world.
My love of old has always been with me. I went to my first auction as a teen and my first piece of furniture, as a new wife, was an unfinished dry sink which I painted barn red and antiqued. (still have that piece by the way). :) I love seeing the old happily coincide with the new. My very favorite objects of art to find are something that you will never see in anyone else's home. This vintage cast metal horse once was part of a dime store carousel. Remember those? The modern ones you see are plastic nowadays. He rest on top of an antique armoire in our guest room.
I also have a love of old books and constantly look for the best of the best for decorating and to put in my shop. I love to use them in displays and as risers.The more worn they are, the better I love them.
Beautiful old lamps also attract my eye. This French black marble lamp I found 2 years ago and it sat without a shade until just about 4 months ago. What did I use? A vintage lady's hat, complete with big black silk rose. Don't be afraid to think out of the box and remember....it's all about the collected home which takes time and love and patience.
(yes I know, antiqueing is spelled wrong :)
Again, using the obvious in an unexpected way, these pieces of stained glass were once cabinet doors. Now they are beautiful pieces of art hanging in the far window of our family room.
And lastly, I thought I would share one more thing about me. I am not fond of symmetry and probably the only two things hanging symmetrical in my home are those two glass cabinet doors. You can see that most obviously in this vintage (antique) :) photo of me. Check out those pant's legs. See I told you I don't like symmetry. What a fashion statement! LOL....
