Dining Room Reveal

Happy Start to the New Week.

I had a 96 inch long table in my dining room and while it fit the space I just did not feel like the table was intimate  for entertaining when everyone sits in a long line down the table.  I feel like the people at the head of the table talk and the people at the end of the table talk but the people at the top of the table and the end of the table do not get to really talk to each other.  Did you get all of that!!!!

So.........  I had Terry get out his handy dandy tools and said "hey can you take this 96 inch long table and make it square for eight people to sit at?"  He told me he could using all the stuff from the old table.
I was so happy that he thought he could do this and we could recycle the old table into the new one.

Old Table.  See that ugly round ufo looking thing in the ceiling.  That was where the chimney for the old stove that was in this room when we moved into this house.  I have hated that thing and Terry finally got that out and was able to dry wall up the big hole it made.

New square table for eight.

Remember the old drawer fronts that I had on the long table.  I was able to use them again on this table on each side.  Loved the key hole and chippy handles to these drawer fronts.  Just gives a little bling to the sides of the table.

I got this side table at the Kane Country Flea Market a few weeks ago.  It was black but no worries I had paint!!!

Moved some of my white plates around on the wall by the chippy barn door.

Relocated my bakery sign and a few more platters.
I have the old milk bottle with sand and my new paper flowers for a centerpiece on the new table.

I hung this old rusty candle chandelier on the old cabinet door on the wall and moved my mannequin with the french apron out to the dining room.

Remember the old cart with wheels.  Gave her some paint and distressed her and I put the old heater grate on the cart along with the old french milk bottles and farm fresh box.

Not sure the mannequin will stay in the dining room.  I kind of like it in my kitchen. So needless to say there will be more moving around of things!

Love these old french milk bottles with the steel carrier and wood handle.  They fit nicely down in this farm fresh crate.

Moved out my ladder and baskets from the laundry room to give the dining room a more french farmhouse feel.

Not sure that old garden bench will stay there and I know the roses bucket will be moving.  Not sure on the garden bench right there just yet.  I might try to find some kind of old french cottage island table to put under those baskets.

Yep not sure yet I am liking this bench right under the baskets.
My bike still has her corner in the dining room.  I was thinking about moving her and hanging the baskets over in this corner with a table underneath but I just am not ready to part with my bike or the headboard chalk board just yet.  So for now she stays in her spot.

The roses in the new painted bucket got relocated over by the old door and birdhouses.

I then moved this dresser into the dining room and re styled the shelves and dresser top.

Need your opinion here.  This was chippy which I like but I am thinking it is too chippy so what do you think should I leave it alone or paint it solid white?

Restyled the white ironstone and some of my old silver and jars on the shelves.

Mason jars and doilies with old silver and my cute cow candle stick holders were added to the shelf.

Remember that old basket I got while out junkin.  I filled it with an old french cutting board a table cloth and some white plates.

I had this old cup holder in my laundry room so I moved it out and put my coffee cups on it.

So there you have it.  A new table and some new styling to the dining room.  I am looking for a cute cottage bench maybe something white and chippy and skirted to added to the seating.  I am still moving things around and tweaking in this room.  It seems to always take me a few times before I get it the way I like it.  I know a lot of you understand this whole process!!!!!!

Have a great week.  Thank you always for your visits and I love your comments on my decor change ups.
Have a great week.

    1. Hi Carol,
I am loving this table so much better in the room. Same amount of seating the long table had but just feels better and more roomy to sit. Plus it is much more intimate for conversation and game playing. Yep I have to shout it out loud I am blessed and so lucky to have that handy man in my life. Without him none of my decor crazy would be realized. I am a happy camper and Terry is a keeper. Thanks for your really sweet comment and have a great start to the new week.

You are too sweet. I think I might like the piece chippy too I just need to give it a few days and see if it grows on me. I agree it gives some contrast to the other things in the room. Thank you for your input. I so appreciate that coming from you. Have a great start to the new week.

  4. Wow you and Terry had a whirlwind redesign in record time! Kris, your creative energy is inspiring, plus a whole lot of amazing! Your question about the dresser's appearance ... How about just applying a bit of darker wax to bring out more of it's unique personality. Your flower choices are delightful and happy. Of course you will tweak the smalls around a bit but Kris your newly reinvented square table is lovely. Enjoy much laughter and conversation over wonderful meals at your table for 8. Beautiful, just beautifully romantic.

  6. Love the new look of your dining room table, Kris. And where did that AWESOME iron bench come from? Was I sleeping when you've featured it before? If you don't know where to put it, I could certainly take that off your hands! :-))

    1. Ha Ha Mary Alice don't you wish you lived closer because in my change up decor crazy you probably could talk me out of that bench. It is so chippy and sweet so I hope to find a new place for her in the house somewhere. My house is so tiny I am running out of room for all these chippy unique pieces. I had this outside on my porch for a little while and then brought her inside. Hope to find a new place for her to be inside. Have a great week.

  11. I am in love with the whole room. So calming and relaxing. You had stated at the end of your post about moving a bench to your table. Earlier in the post you said you did not know where to go with the white chippy bench. How about trying it out with the table and see if you like it there and fancying it up with pillows, throws, etc. That way it can save you some money too. :) Thanks for a great blog.

    1. Hi Tracy,
I did try that and it was too low for the bench to work at the table. Believe me I tried. Hopefully I will find a new home for it somewhere else in the house.
      Have a great week.

  12. Way to go Terry! I can see how a smaller table would be more intimate and how often do you have that many people for dinner anyway?

Your rooms just amaze me. You find every little spot and make it pretty.

Kris, I finally finished painting a door that I got from my dad's old house. It's white...now, what to do with it?!

  13. The square table is just perfect, Kris! I love the addition of the bench and ladder with baskets.
You are always changing and updating and keeping it fresh, that's why I'm always inspired when
    I come here! Just GORGEOUS!

  14. Kris, I love this. I really like how Terry made the table square, but big enough for 8. I especially love the styling in the piece you're not sure about the distressing yet (with the cups and basket). If you drink coffee, this would make a great [Keurig?] coffee service area. If you end up getting a bench, you can place your extra, unused chairs around. How about a little bistro set under the hanging ladder if you decide to move the bench? It's all so cute, I'm sure you'll find the right mix - numerous times, in numerous ways. Have fun with the process!

Terry did a wonderful job on your table. When he retires from the Fire Station he could take up redesigning furniture. He does an amazing job.
I love your reveal - now you will have to have friends over for dinner to show off your beautiful dining room.
    Have a great week Kris.

  19. Oh, Kris, oh my goodness you are so amazing. Your styling is AWESOME - I absolutely adore your rooms and style. Love love love your change to your table - it's going to be so much more functional now, yet STILL comfortably seats 8!! WOW!

As for the "too shabby" chest, I agree. I hate over chippy, it seems so "forced." I think you could remedy that and still have the look we love. That's just my humble opinion. Whenever I get anything too chippy I repaint. : - ) Except for my kitchen hutch - haven't had the nerve to do it to that one because it is real chippy, not faked chippy......and I could ruin it easily if not careful, so there is stands in its too chippy form, haha.

Great reveal - well done, my sweet friend. ♥

I have a collection of them from my mom, grandmother and my other grandmother dating back to 1930 - 1940's.
