Happy Start to the New Week.
I had a 96 inch long table in my dining room and while it fit the space I just did not feel like the table was intimate for entertaining when everyone sits in a long line down the table. I feel like the people at the head of the table talk and the people at the end of the table talk but the people at the top of the table and the end of the table do not get to really talk to each other. Did you get all of that!!!!
So......... I had Terry get out his handy dandy tools and said "hey can you take this 96 inch long table and make it square for eight people to sit at?" He told me he could using all the stuff from the old table.
I was so happy that he thought he could do this and we could recycle the old table into the new one.
New square table for eight. |
I got this side table at the Kane Country Flea Market a few weeks ago. It was black but no worries I had paint!!! |
Moved some of my white plates around on the wall by the chippy barn door. |
Relocated my bakery sign and a few more platters. |
I have the old milk bottle with sand and my new paper flowers for a centerpiece on the new table. |
I hung this old rusty candle chandelier on the old cabinet door on the wall and moved my mannequin with the french apron out to the dining room. |
Remember the old cart with wheels. Gave her some paint and distressed her and I put the old heater grate on the cart along with the old french milk bottles and farm fresh box. |
Not sure the mannequin will stay in the dining room. I kind of like it in my kitchen. So needless to say there will be more moving around of things! |
Love these old french milk bottles with the steel carrier and wood handle. They fit nicely down in this farm fresh crate. |
Moved out my ladder and baskets from the laundry room to give the dining room a more french farmhouse feel. |
Yep not sure yet I am liking this bench right under the baskets. |
The roses in the new painted bucket got relocated over by the old door and birdhouses. |
I then moved this dresser into the dining room and re styled the shelves and dresser top. |
Need your opinion here. This was chippy which I like but I am thinking it is too chippy so what do you think should I leave it alone or paint it solid white? |
Restyled the white ironstone and some of my old silver and jars on the shelves. |
Mason jars and doilies with old silver and my cute cow candle stick holders were added to the shelf. |
Remember that old basket I got while out junkin. I filled it with an old french cutting board a table cloth and some white plates. |
I had this old cup holder in my laundry room so I moved it out and put my coffee cups on it. |

You have a lovely home. I like the dresser chippy.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Thanks Deb. I am going to leave it alone for a few days to see how I feel. Thank you for your input. I so appreciate your sweet comment.
DeleteKris
EVERYthing and I mean EVERYthing is wonderful - so many cute displays.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have a handy husband because that table is great.
Enjoy your week!
Hi Carol,
DeleteI am loving this table so much better in the room. Same amount of seating the long table had but just feels better and more roomy to sit. Plus it is much more intimate for conversation and game playing. Yep I have to shout it out loud I am blessed and so lucky to have that handy man in my life. Without him none of my decor crazy would be realized. I am a happy camper and Terry is a keeper. Thanks for your really sweet comment and have a great start to the new week.
Kris
I absolutely love your decorating style! It's no wonder you get into so many magazines, just beautiful. I love the new table and your right it is much more conversation friendly. I like the chest the way it is because I think it helps to make your other chippy items pop but your the expert and I know it will look great no matter what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi,
DeleteYou are too sweet. I think I might like the piece chippy too I just need to give it a few days and see if it grows on me. I agree it gives some contrast to the other things in the room. Thank you for your input. I so appreciate that coming from you. Have a great start to the new week.
Kris
Wow you and Terry had a whirlwind redesign in record time! Kris, your creative energy is inspiring, plus a whole lot of amazing! Your question about the dresser's appearance ... How about just applying a bit of darker wax to bring out more of it's unique personality. Your flower choices are delightful and happy. Of course you will tweak the smalls around a bit but Kris your newly reinvented square table is lovely. Enjoy much laughter and conversation over wonderful meals at your table for 8. Beautiful, just beautifully romantic.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Vera
I love your new square table, Kris...such a great idea! Who wouldn't want to share a meal in this lovely room!?
ReplyDeleteLove the new look of your dining room table, Kris. And where did that AWESOME iron bench come from? Was I sleeping when you've featured it before? If you don't know where to put it, I could certainly take that off your hands! :-))
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Mary Alice don't you wish you lived closer because in my change up decor crazy you probably could talk me out of that bench. It is so chippy and sweet so I hope to find a new place for her in the house somewhere. My house is so tiny I am running out of room for all these chippy unique pieces. I had this outside on my porch for a little while and then brought her inside. Hope to find a new place for her to be inside. Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteLovin' the new table and I like that chippy dresser...as is.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
OMG, I am exhausted by all you do. Girl you sure pull a room together even with major fabrication. Gotta love that Hubby of yours, he's a gem:)
ReplyDeleteIt's all very beautiful, Kris! Your hubby did a fantastic job on your table. I love how you put all of your accessories together making sweet vignettes ~ so many great ideas!
ReplyDeleteHi JoAnne,
DeleteThank you so much. The hubby is a keeper for sure. That man can do just about any decor crazy I give him. Have a great week.
Kris
I am in love with the whole room. So calming and relaxing. You had stated at the end of your post about moving a bench to your table. Earlier in the post you said you did not know where to go with the white chippy bench. How about trying it out with the table and see if you like it there and fancying it up with pillows, throws, etc. That way it can save you some money too. :) Thanks for a great blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy,
DeleteI did try that and it was too low for the bench to work at the table. Believe me I tried. Hopefully I will find a new home for it somewhere else in the house.
Have a great week.
Kris
Way to go Terry! I can see how a smaller table would be more intimate and how often do you have that many people for dinner anyway?
ReplyDeleteYour rooms just amaze me. You find every little spot and make it pretty.
Kris, I finally finished painting a door that I got from my dad's old house. It's white...now, what to do with it?!
The square table is just perfect, Kris! I love the addition of the bench and ladder with baskets.
ReplyDeleteYou are always changing and updating and keeping it fresh, that's why I'm always inspired when
I come here! Just GORGEOUS!
Hugs,
Patti
Kris, I love this. I really like how Terry made the table square, but big enough for 8. I especially love the styling in the piece you're not sure about the distressing yet (with the cups and basket). If you drink coffee, this would make a great [Keurig?] coffee service area. If you end up getting a bench, you can place your extra, unused chairs around. How about a little bistro set under the hanging ladder if you decide to move the bench? It's all so cute, I'm sure you'll find the right mix - numerous times, in numerous ways. Have fun with the process!
ReplyDeleteRita
Your husband is such a keeper, and your room of course looks fabulous. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteIs there anything Terry can't do? You both amaze me so much - that table is just gorgeous beyond belief - ( I loved it before - but I agree it's more intimate this way )
ReplyDeleteAmazing. The 2 of you are just amazing.!
XOXO
I love stopping by on your blog beacuse I adore your house and your creativity:-) Is there anything you can't do? I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and Amazing:-) It's a great inspiration:-)
Greetings,
Anita
WOW - you really out did yourself on your dining room. I love love love it. Everything is perfect - beautiful and amazing. You really have a good eye for decorating.
ReplyDeleteTerry did a wonderful job on your table. When he retires from the Fire Station he could take up redesigning furniture. He does an amazing job.
I love your reveal - now you will have to have friends over for dinner to show off your beautiful dining room.
Have a great week Kris.
Mary
Oh, Kris, oh my goodness you are so amazing. Your styling is AWESOME - I absolutely adore your rooms and style. Love love love your change to your table - it's going to be so much more functional now, yet STILL comfortably seats 8!! WOW!
ReplyDeleteAs for the "too shabby" chest, I agree. I hate over chippy, it seems so "forced." I think you could remedy that and still have the look we love. That's just my humble opinion. Whenever I get anything too chippy I repaint. : - ) Except for my kitchen hutch - haven't had the nerve to do it to that one because it is real chippy, not faked chippy......and I could ruin it easily if not careful, so there is stands in its too chippy form, haha.
Great reveal - well done, my sweet friend. ♥
Kris, I think you could have your very own magazine. I love the table make over..wow that Terry is handier than a shirt pocket. I love the roller cart 's new finish. You have just out done yourself. !!! xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautiful Kris! I saw every photo EXCEPT the new table! We are "out of data" so the computer runs slowwwww and it brought them all up except that one of course, but I am sure it is lovely!! You sure keep busy! Oh , and I have a matching thing in my ceiling only it is square {from a chimney}...it is going soon also. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
Wow that hubby of your's is super talented! How in the world did he make it into a square table? I think the bench idea will really set everything off. I think your chippy dresser looks great the way it is! I remember when I first found your blog and seeing that wonderful bike inside your house, I was smitten!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Kris! I just love your dining room. Love that Fresh Bakery sign, too. It's always good, I think, to know that you can remake something you already have. Your hubby is so handy so I'm not surprised he was able to do that.
ReplyDeleteI like the square table your husband transformed for you. Lots of other lovely ideas. I would vote for a little more white on that chippy dresser. Nancy
ReplyDeleteI vote to make the chest a bit less chippy. I love that bench. Since you asked I am not sure of a bistro under the baskets. You already have a table in the room. I love all the decorating..and the new ruffles on the chais are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOh you and Terry are at it again with your team work of creating beautiful spaces and furniture!...love the "new table"...I can sit at that table all day and take in the very beautiful elements in the room...so much to see . . . so many gorgeous vignettes and creative ways you have re-purposed times!...Love every inch of the dining room...and I do love the chippy dresser!
ReplyDeleteLove the square table Kris. I've pondered getting one for us as the people before us had one. How are you finding it? You have the best treasures and mixing them up and moving them round is all part of the fun. :) x J
ReplyDeleteI like your dining room table! Wish I had room for an extra large table like that in my dining room. My dining room is so small. I completely understand how you've got to tweak things to get everything just right. Whenever I get something new, it seems like the whole house changes!
ReplyDeleteKris...your table looks great square. Isn't it wonderful to have a hubby that works with wood and can do the projects that we think up. My hubby is woodworker and a handyman that can do the crazy projects that I think up too. We hope to move to a smaller home within a year or less...and I have my list of things to do for the new home already.
ReplyDeleteLOVE all the changes you made Kris and I love that dresser chippy...so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous, you have converted me to loving white. xox
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely dreamy! And your photos are lovely, too. I would leave that dresser just the way it is!
ReplyDeletexo Kathleen
Oh my goodness! Your dining room is gorgeous and so full of inspiration. I love it all but my favorite part is your new old dining room table.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, Tell Terry that he's a furniture magician. Great job again!!! I'd love to shop your home for baskets, crates, milk bottles, chippy doors, furniture and more. I like the chippy dresser as it is.
ReplyDeleteJulia
I love what you did with the table--it does look so much more inviting. Everything looks perfect--I have always loved the bike--it is almost like your signature piece :) I like that chippy cabinet--I know what you mean about things that are too chippy, but I think maybe one really chippy piece just makes things more interesting!
ReplyDeleteWhat you and Terry accomplish is truly amazing. And beautiful! LOVE the new table... for that matter, I LOVE it all. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lin
may i borrow him for a spell? pretty please?? sigh....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! That thingy in the ceiling would have bugged me too. It's funny how we can obsess about things. Love your dining room!
ReplyDeleteI love how you made your recent finds fit so beautifully into your space, and how you and Terry work together, and incorporate pieces you love, like the drawer fronts, into the new square table! I love square tables. :) It all looks beautiful, Kris.
ReplyDeleteI Love the square table!!! Everything is just so pretty. I'm glad you're keeping the bike in that spot. It's always been my favorite! And I like the mannequin in the dining room. I really like the chippyness of the table. It brings something different to all the white but blends in nicely. It's just perfect Kris!
ReplyDeleteWhere to start... everything looks so pretty! I think my favorite new thing in your beautiful dining room is the ladder and baskets.
ReplyDeleteWOW Kris, everything is gorgeous as always. Terry is on talented man and seems to never have fear. He just jumps right in and does the job. I love that small cup holder. All the ones I see are so large. I may have to spend the time to find one. I would like to display some of my tea cups on one. I have a collection of them from my mom, grandmother and my other grandmother dating back to 1930 - 1940's.
ReplyDeleteCindy
I Love, Love your new square dining table! Mr JCC has really got it going in the wood working department! And You are a great chippy white painter!! Everything looks wonderful, just in time to start decorating for the Holidays :) Blessings, Cindy

Evening Kris, Love how you re-arrange!! Such great ideas and never boring! I say...leave the chest chippy for a while...I like the finish! You have been having lots of FUN! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteSo lovely! I like the birdhouses. I used to have several in a house we lived in and my hubby would tell me that the birds will never find them! LOL

Hi Kris...enjoying catching up with you over coffee this morning! Love all your room updates ~ Terry did a wonderful job on the table! I also love the mirror you made into a cabinet door in the kitchen, very cute! I still need to get a copy of Somerset Home and congrats on the other magazine feature!! While I am totally enjoying summer by the lake, seeing you being so busy and creative at home I'm getting the itch to get back into the swing of things!!
ReplyDeleteCatching up with you! This post makes me think that I don't do much decorating! Haha! Love the new table. You make white so cheery!
ReplyDeleteYour table is now perfect for conversation while you're eating, Kris! I love all of your changes, even though I know they probably will be tweaked a few more times before you've got it just the way you like. :) One thing's for sure, the dust never has a chance to settle in your house!!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeletelove your dining room and the smaller table. I know what you mean about the old UFO thing from the ceiling. we have one of those too. bet you're glad it's gone. I love all the details in your room. You have such a gift for putting things together beautifully.

Kris, I think you need to hire out your services to a cute bed and breakfast...your cozy, serene, vintage environment is so inviting! So glad you came to Revisionary Life Thrifty Life Thursday Linky. Have a great Thursday. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kris! I love how your dining room looks! I can't believe that Terry was able to take your big table and make a smaller one out of it! He is so talented! Now everybody can talk to everybody else. I love that little dresser the way it is, all distressed with some of the grain showing. It adds nice texture to the room and against the solid wall. Whichever you decide to do, however, I'm sure it will work well in the room. I really like the addition of some of the items from other rooms - shopping your own home is always fun! So pretty all around! Hope you're enjoying your week! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteOmg...so pretty ... pinning away I go! :)
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is so charming, Kris. I just love how you arrange everything and choose accessories that make it uniquely yours. You pull off this look better than anyone I know.
