Hi Everyone. Happy Monday. Hope the week end was good and you are off to a great start with the new week ahead.
I went to Mark's Washington Street Market on Saturday. Mark owns of my fave shops Room 363. So a couple of times a year he does this vintage market show and invites fantastic vendors to be part of his market show.
I found this wonderful vintage piece that I have to share with all of you.
Julie Norkus is one of my fave vendors at the flea market and she was at Mark's show.
This is what I got in her lovely booth.
It is a hanger made out of an old top of a vintage school desk. Loved it the minute I saw it. |
It has the old ink well hole. Gotta love that. |
This is why I truly fell in love with this piece. Can you see the initials carved out from the students that sat at this desk years ago. |
DD + AJ in a heart. Ohhhhhh I hope these two ended up together in sweet love. This piece was too cute and had so much character and history. |
great piece. You should check out Antiques of Winfield's Fall gathering show. Last weekend in September. Really a great show . thanks and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteKris, that's an awesome piece. It'll go nicely with the khaki and tan you use too. Btw, have you seen your ice bucket challenge from Suzan? Oh yes she did! I can see Terry now, hosing you down with the firetruck nozzle, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
This is fabulous, Kris!! What a great find.

I LOVE that piece, and you're right, no paint should touch its surface! :-) So much history in that sweet piece.
ReplyDeleteI love unique pieces in my home, too. This is perfect!
ReplyDeleteIf it could talk, oh, the stories it would tell :)
Have a great week,
Connie :)
I love the initials carved in the wood. That's a really neat find. :)
ReplyDeleteit's awesome, kris! love the carvings--just too cute! have a great week!
ReplyDeleteKris, That is a sweet piece of treasured junk. Perfect to hang one's robe on. Blessings for a great day, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteYikes, that is cute. I would have scooped that up in a minute. I love antique school stuff. I'm glad you had fun at the market.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet piece....I love the carvings!!!!! I might have to "borrow" this idea and make one for our schoolhouse.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!!

Love! You find the coolest stuff! I'm predicting that you will paint it someday...never say never :-) Have a happy week Kris!
ReplyDeleteWhat a CUTE piece, Kris. I can just picture my bloomers hanging from that hook...er...I mean my lace negligee~ I love fun pieces like that. What do you think that brass piece between the two hooks is? It is a great addition to the piece. Glad you had a chance to get to the sale! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI can certainly see why you're not painting over that sweet old desktop with its handcarved love stories, Kris! It's just darling! If you have a chance, check out Linda's post about the boards she's having made into a farm table:

I hope you have a great week and a few more warm days to enjoy your flowers!

I would have jumped on that one, too. Wish I knew about the market beforehand. Is there a list you can get on for info about it? I definitely would have gone had I known! Glad it was a nice day for you.

What a fabulous find! It looks great under your cottage sign and I am sure your guests will love being able to hang a few of their things on it, so cute!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it, Kris...those initials are wonderful...and the wood patina is BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! Gosh, those old desk tops bring back memories. Of course, mine did not have the inkwell in it. LOL! But, I do remember sitting in a wooden desk with a ridge in it to place your pencil. Underneath the seat was metal and you could store your books. They don't make THOSE anymore! Even chalkboards are gone!
ReplyDeleteFun find. We have two old wooden desks my mom gave our boys. They love to keep treasures inside.
ReplyDeleteKind of sad they do not use them anymore in schools.
Great piece and it is perfect there!!

Kris,
ReplyDeleteWas away for the weekend and missed yesterday's winners of the emergency bags. Congrats to them. I am going to buy 2 unpacked ones for Gabby and Dane from etsy. I think it will be fun filling them for my Grands as a little surprise gift.
Oh Kris, your recreated find is delightful. The mellowed wood's time worn patina is amazing. loving the carved initials that have become part of it's charming legacy. What a find! I also love the graphics on the poster or flyer advertising the flea.
Have a wonderful week.
XO,
Vera
Wonderful find, love the patina!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful piece full of character! I just love me some old wood! Love the poster they used for the Market too!
ReplyDeleteKris, what a fantastic, unique find! The initials are so sweet! And I love the contrast with the white :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
What no white paint? I agree the initial carving is what makes the piece so special.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find Kris! I'm kicking myself, I had two very old desks that I just didn't have room for... never thought to take the top off and use this way! I love it, and I agree, it's not one to be painted over!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly sweet piece! Don't you just Love a piece that has a history? The stories that piece could tell if it could only speak! Great find! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI agree, do not paint it. I think it looks just perfect under your guest room sign too. The old wood patina looks great with the white. I imagine there are some wonderful stories behind every one who was at that desk.. and the initials...just perfect....what a wonderful repurposed piece. Another great find. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun find! I don't paint everything either....if it has good patina I keep it as is.And that has perfect patina! Hope Terry is doing well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece and I love the initials. I'm a romantic at heart!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Love it!
ReplyDeleteSome things have to remain as they are.
I have an angry husband - well maybe just frustrated. Three rooms are being painted right now by our good friend "Mr. Bill". The guest room (no longer my creative space), dining room and entry will all be white by the end of the week. So far only the bedroom is done and it looks wonderful. I just told Steve he should be mad at you that all of the furniture from those rooms is in the living room.
I love that piece, Kris! Those carved initials are so sweet. I think it would've come home with me, too. I found the most adorable little school chair last week. I paid too much for it, but I couldn't help myself!
ReplyDeleteI would love to meet Mark...he was my very first follower. He'll forever have a special place in my heart. I just adore everything he does.
Hope you have a great week. xo, T.
Oh Kris, I love that piece - WOW. Looks so good under your Guest Cottage sign. You find such wonderful treasures/ Sure wish we had some of those shops here in SO CA. Ours are so EXPENSIVE - we have to hope that we find treasures at the GW and SA. Have a great week. You should be here with our HOT weather.
ReplyDeleteMary
Oh...so lovely find! I love the initials, they are so sweet

Awww...love it!! Sounds like my kind of show...lucky you :)
ReplyDeleteLove it Kris!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so precious Kris !
ReplyDeleteThere's a park that we used to hang out in as teenagers - with an old bench that still sports SS + GG ( my first boyfriend and I lol )
What a great find - and it looks perfect under the guest cottage sign -
xox
Awwww! Kris, those initials would have sold me on the piece as well. As for the creator of the coat rack so thoughtful of them to leave the markings behind so someone else could enjoy its charm.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect piece to include in your Valentine post. I wish it were my find, but glad it's yours. You also mentioned it's not getting a white paint finish, I too have been saying to myself the next dark piece I find it's going to stay dark. I so need to anchor my home with something dark....will see! :)
Kris I saw the beautiful pumpkin over at Vera's that you gifted her on her birthday, I just wanted to let you know what a beautiful heart you have.
Xx
Dore
Definitely one of a kind and perfect just the way it is. It would be a shame to paint over a beautiful patina like that. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that school desk rack....it is such a super "sweet" piece...and I hope too that they lived happily ever after!!...and also LOVE, LOVE that poster/artwork!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece Kris! I can see why you were drawn to it.....such sweet history and sooo unique! It looks perfect in the guest room~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteOh how fun to get to go to that show in Naperville! I grew up in Plainfield and I still go to Naperville to poke around every time I go home! I would have fallen in love with that repurposed school desk top too and now I'm going to keep my eye out for one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique find, Kris. Perfect for your guest room, too!
