Hi Everyone. Happy Monday. Hope the week end was good and you are off to a great start with the new week ahead.
I went to Mark's Washington Street Market on Saturday. Mark owns of my fave shops Room 363. So a couple of times a year he does this vintage market show and invites fantastic vendors to be part of his market show.
I found this wonderful vintage piece that I have to share with all of you.
Julie Norkus is one of my fave vendors at the flea market and she was at Mark's show.
This is what I got in her lovely booth.

| It is a hanger made out of an old top of a vintage school desk. Loved it the minute I saw it. |

| It has the old ink well hole. Gotta love that. |

| This is why I truly fell in love with this piece. Can you see the initials carved out from the students that sat at this desk years ago. |

| DD + AJ in a heart. Ohhhhhh I hope these two ended up together in sweet love. This piece was too cute and had so much character and history. |

| So now I have it hanging under my Guest Cottage sign in my guest room. This is where my guests can a hang a few things when they stay with me. It was a wonderful market and a wonderful day for weather. Low 70's and sunny with a light breeze. Perfect shopping weather. Have a wonderful week. Kris :) |

great piece. You should check out Antiques of Winfield's Fall gathering show. Last weekend in September. Really a great show . thanks and enjoy it.

What a fabulous find! It looks great under your cottage sign and I am sure your guests will love being able to hang a few of their things on it, so cute!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! Gosh, those old desk tops bring back memories. Of course, mine did not have the inkwell in it. LOL! But, I do remember sitting in a wooden desk with a ridge in it to place your pencil. Underneath the seat was metal and you could store your books. They don't make THOSE anymore! Even chalkboards are gone!

ReplyDeleteWas away for the weekend and missed yesterday's winners of the emergency bags. Congrats to them. I am going to buy 2 unpacked ones for Gabby and Dane from etsy. I think it will be fun filling them for my Grands as a little surprise gift.
Oh Kris, your recreated find is delightful. The mellowed wood's time worn patina is amazing. loving the carved initials that have become part of it's charming legacy. What a find! I also love the graphics on the poster or flyer advertising the flea.

I imagine there are some wonderful stories behind every one who was at that desk.. and the initials...just perfect....what a wonderful repurposed piece. Another great find. Blessings!

I have an angry husband - well maybe just frustrated. Three rooms are being painted right now by our good friend "Mr. Bill". The guest room (no longer my creative space), dining room and entry will all be white by the end of the week. So far only the bedroom is done and it looks wonderful. I just told Steve he should be mad at you that all of the furniture from those rooms is in the living room.
I love that piece, Kris! Those carved initials are so sweet. I think it would've come home with me, too. I found the most adorable little school chair last week. I paid too much for it, but I couldn't help myself!

Awwww! Kris, those initials would have sold me on the piece as well. As for the creator of the coat rack so thoughtful of them to leave the markings behind so someone else could enjoy its charm.

You also mentioned it's not getting a white paint finish, I too have been saying to myself the next dark piece I find it's going to stay dark. I so need to anchor my home with something dark....will see! :)

Definitely one of a kind and perfect just the way it is. It would be a shame to paint over a beautiful patina like that. Love it!

ReplyDeleteOh how fun to get to go to that show in Naperville! I grew up in Plainfield and I still go to Naperville to poke around every time I go home! I would have fallen in love with that repurposed school desk top too and now I'm going to keep my eye out for one.
