Summer has left and fall has arrived in Illinois but with the temps being mild, a few of my summer flowers are still hanging on.
They say we will have a few more weeks of these mild temps. No worries for the summer hold outs. I decided to join them with fall.
|
I joined fall faux flowers and real and faux pumpkins to the mix of summer flowers still left. |
|
With summer flowers still hanging on I just co mingled summer and fall together. |
|
My impatiens bag is still doing well on my front door. Easy peasy just add the faux fall to the summer flowers. |
|
The nice thing about hanging bags they have lots of holes you can stick the faux flowers in to be with the real flowers. Watering the bag is still a breeze even with the faux decor added in. |
|
Until we get a frost the flower beds will continue to bud. |
|
I dressed up my cherub bird feeder with some fall decor. |
|
The birds can still get to the seed in the cherub feeder. Just hope Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel do not try and take away my burlap bows for their winter homes!!!! |
|
My bike out front still had some life going on in the baskets so I added a fall bow and some faux fall decor to the existing flowers. |
|
It was fun to mix the faux pumpkins with the real pumpkins I got a couple week ends ago from the pumpkin farm. |
|
While there are still a few traces of summer fall is definitely appearing. |
|
The trees are just starting to turn colors here in the midwest. In the next few weeks I think we will see some really beautiful changes to the trees.
Hope your week end has been great. Fall is definitely arrived here in the midwest. It just is coming in very mild which I will not complain about. We Northern Midwest bloggers know what will follow this beautiful fall weather!!! Ughhh!!!! Yep the ugly W word WINTER!!!!
Have a wonderful start to the new week ahead. Kris :) |

ReplyDeleteKris, It all looks so pretty. I love how you did your décor. Fall is here and I think some winter chill came with it. I have felt cold for days. I am dreading winter. So I want to enjoy every day of sunshine and any warmth . Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOh my word, your flowers are all amazing. I love your door swag, that is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour outdoor autumn display is beautiful, Kris! I can't believe you haven't had a frost yet! My flowers froze weeks ago, and we're at the very end of our fall color display. In your spare time, could you please come and do something with my now empty window boxes? :o)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
Brilliant idea for the birdbath, love that it's a feeder now and all the fall foliage around it sure makes it beautiful. We have had frost several nights in a row here and many trees have already lost their leaves. It wasn't the prettiest fall we have ever had. Now brace yourself for winter :(
ReplyDeleteKris, yes, it's officially the 'F' word-ha! The trees are all looking gorgeous here. Your outdoor fall decor looks great!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
Absolutely beautiful Kris!... love your mix of Seasons... kind of like it really is in Nature... Summery~Autumny right now... your bicycle looks especially cute and I love your little sign for hayrides!... I just wish the dreaded "w" word didn't follow!... our winters are so bitter and cold here in Utah... infact, our state slogan is "The greatest snow on earth"!... not a fan of snow and winter!... but this is my home, always has been and always will be... so I will savor Autumn and hope you and I both get a long, lovely Indian Summer... xoxo... Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the mix. We are having cooler evening and overnight. We had to turn the furnace on a few nights because it's hard to get showered and dressed for work early in the morning with cold toes from the bathroom tile lol.
ReplyDeleteYou've really embraced the majesty of fall at your house!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Everything looks so lovely with your mix of real and faux.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am going to have to start using faux flowers because this drought and our water restrictions is taking its toll on my garden. I am looking into what drought tolerant plants will produce flowers because I am just not a succulent girl.
KC hopes the Chicago weather stays nice for a few more weeks. She and her boyfriend are joining his parents to watch his brother play in a rugby match. Jakes brother plays on the US Rugby team. KC has a good friend who is a nurse in Chicago and the friend loaned them her apartment in Streeterville for the 3 day weekend since she will be away.
We don't have winter here in coastal California (yay!) but neither do we have fall (boo!) so I'm going to have to live vicariously through your lovely decor. Your porch is a continual inspiration to me! xo jonni xo
ReplyDeleteYour impatience and all of your fall decor is just SO gorgeous! You know I love that cherub bird feeder!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty- as usual!! Love the trim colour, is that a shade of green or grey?
ReplyDeleteGosh, I haven't done any decorating to my front porch. You have inspired me!!
ReplyDeleteLove how you've co-mingled your Fall décor with what is left of the summer flowers, Kris. So pretty! While my urn is still hanging in there, I am about ready to pull out the annuals and get a small pumpkin to plop next to the hydrangea I planted in there (which has beautiful green leaves that look so healthy but I never got another flower off it from when I initially bought it). Great sign hanging on the tree above your bike. You always find the best signs!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever mixing those real and faux flowers. Your door looks stunning!! Most of my impatiens died with the first frost but I have some petunias going strong. And I'm enjoying the cool temps. Throw on a sweater and go!
ReplyDeleteJane xx
OMG Kris your impatiens bag on your front door looks amazing!! I did the same thing this year I couldn't part with my summer plants that were still thriving so I just added a little Fall to them. Everything looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think it was a great idea to mix your Fall decor with your summer flowers. I still have my summer geraniums outside too. No point in throwing perfectly good flowers out! I didn't realize that the flowers on your door were in a bag. That's the secret! I wondered how they looked like that.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. It all came out so beautiful I let my flowers do their thing til they get frosted over. We did have some frost this morning. Hey, I like snow.
ReplyDeleteWell Kris your blend of Autumn into remaining summer blooms looks so inviting. You always put together charming floral displays. I've discovered misting with white vinegar - keeps the squirrels from chewing and stealing and it doesn't stain, alter or cause any damage. Maybe it would work for you on those sweet burlap bows. Looking inviting and Fall inspired and eyes, fingers and toes crossed this Indian Summer signals a more mild winter.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Vera
As always, beauty and perfection, Kris! The one thing about living where you do is that, even with winter, you have beautiful foliage in the spring, summer and winter!!! We have rocks, cactus and dust :) Praying your fall stays mild and you are continually able to get outside and enjoy it!! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteKris, the mixture of Summer and Fall worked beautifully. Gorgeous as always! Love the mixture of both real and faux and the burlap just is the icing on the cake. Wondering when you water your bag do you take it down so water doesn't run down your door? I had one once, but couldn't hang it on the door for that reason. Yours is simply stunning!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Kris I am just amazed that your flowers are still going strong, you definitely have a green thumb! That hanging bag of flowers on your door is amazing! I love how you tucked in the fall flowers, very smart. Love your bird bath too with all the fall decor.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteYou've been a very busy girl! Everything looks so lovely. Love the way you mixed your existing flowers with new Fall color. Beautiful!
Beautiful photos. We are having a warmer-than-usual fall here in Maine as well...still have some hydrangeas in bloom! Enjoying your blog.
ReplyDeleteCheryl
Kris, your flowers look fantastic! I cannot believe how good your gardens still look. We just returned from a vacation to the northeast (including Canada), and I took so many photos of the flowers because I just couldn't believe how good everything still looked. I don't really know if your climate at this time of year is the tail end of what would've been a slower start to spring, therefore a longer end of summer, but it's amazing. I guess when the first freeze comes, it all goes to hell in a hand basket, is that a fair statement? Regardless, it sure is pretty now, and mine are, for the most part, long gone (already cutting a lot of perennials to the ground, and containers are waay past prime). Enjoy it while you can, and thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteRita
A great idea and way to enjoy those last hardy blooms. I love the impatiens bag especially. I thought yesterday's frost would have wiped everything out but I still have snap dragons. I think there's enough out there for one more small bouquet.
ReplyDeleteKris, this is very charming. I love it! You should come and share this at Every Room In The House. We're partying on the fall porch this month, and your post is so inspiring. Hugs, Nancy P.S. Here's the link, my friend: http://www.ajoyfulcottage.com/2014/10/every-room-in-house-party-10.html
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Kris! I like how you mingle! I want to know more about your bag on the door too. Did you post about that? It all looks gorgeous. Hopefully this winter will be nicer than last year. Didn't it hang on forever? Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteI adore the mix of autumn and summer that you made! The colours, the fall decors look such beautiful. The hat with flowers and lace is fantastic.

It must be hard to place the gorgeous fall leaves and wonderful pumpkins among the gorgeous summer flowers that are still beautifully blooming!....the impatiens on the door are magnificent!....the maples are just starting to turn here....we had a very wet summer, so I wonder how our colors will be this year...
ReplyDeleteLove that hat! Beautiful fall mixture on your front porch. Nice job of combing faux and real! Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour mix of summer and fall outside looks great. I say keep those pretty summer flowers blooming as long as you can!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Everything is beautiful Kris. Love all your pumpkins and faux flowers mixed in with the real ones. We are FINALLY going to have temps in the 70's - YEA YEA YEA. Way to hot out here this summer.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Kris.
Mary
Love your Fall flowers in with your live flowers...everything is so beautiful!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
so gorgeous Kris, you have such a green thumb! love how you've mixed the seasons perfectly!
ReplyDeletethe faux flowers and pumpkins blend beautifully with your garden, kris! your front door looks amazing with all of the flowers cascading down!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to extend the life of your live flower pots - love this idea Kris! I had a chuckle at the burlap bow and the squirrels thinking they scored the perfect winter nest (from the squirrel's perspective). Hopefully the squirrels aren't that smart for your sake because it looks adorable attached to your bike. Love your live cascading door basket too - so pretty.

Now THAT'S curb appeal! Kris, your neighbors must walk by your house with their mouths agape, taking it all in and spending many minutes (or hours) just admiring every little detail. Glad to hear your fall is mild - we've got a mild day today as well. I'll take it!
ReplyDeleteYour floral displays are really gorgeous Kris. I'm a firm believer in using what you have, and you've done so beautifully with your summer hang-ons! ~Ann

Evening Kris, What a beautiful mix of summer and Fall together~~~the yellow gold of the trees just pull it all together!! What few flowers I planted for Summer is hanging on too....We all may be surprised....maybe a long, beautiful Fall is upon us! I am enjoying every minute of it! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteI love how you mingled the leftover summer with Fall. We are finally getting rain...and tonight we are suppose to have 40 mph winds. I love a good storm. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing about this time of year. One day it's sunny and summer-like, and the next the wind is blowing and the temps have dropped. So why not mix 'em together! Pretty as always!
ReplyDeleteWe already had some snow here. Just enough to remind me to hurry up and finish everything outside!
Hugs,
Lin
Gorgeous front door- it looks amazing! I love the blend.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the barn sale was awesome...
Enjoy your weekend and those temps!
Hi Kris. Thank you for sharing your charming porch at Every Room In The House. I'm happy to be featuring it tomorrow when the November party goes live. Hugs, Nancy
