Saturday Spotlight: Life Behind The Blogger

Susan from Must Love Junk, and myself (Kris) Junk Chic Cottage wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before.   So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.

There is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.

Every week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a little bit about themselves and their blogs.  You will be able to see and read about each of the bloggers on both Susan's and my blog.

Kathleen from Musings From A French Cottage

Good Saturday Morning.  I have a wonderful blogger to introduce you to this week.  Kathleen from Musings From A French Cottage.  Please grab your favorite beverage and sit back and enjoying learning about this really sweet blogger.

Thank you so much Kris, for inviting me to be here today.  I'd love to share a little bit about myself!  

I'm Kathleen, the blogger behind Musings From a French Cottage.  I'm a wife to my wonderfully amazing husband, mom to four fabulous kids,

and dog mom to Jack, our yellow lab!

As a family, we love to be outdoors.  We love the beach, hiking, swimming, camping, baseball.  You name it, we try to fit it in.

About a year and a half ago, my husband and I bought a tiny cabin in the mountains by a beautiful lake.

We love to camp here all year long.

We go tubing in the winter, right out the front door (the view is amazing)...

and tubing in the summer.

We love it here and have such a good time gathering with family.

Okay, so little bit about me...

I have always loved to decorate, paint, create, and take pictures.  This has been a passion for as long as I can remember - all the way back to my childhood.  

I used to work in the airline industry.  I loved it and I traveled A LOT!!

Going to Paris was an amazing experience for me and it is why I love French and European decor so much today.  It had such an impact on me and I've had a love for it ever since.  I worked and traveled up until our first child was born and then I left the industry to be a stay at home mom.  I have loved every bit of the journey, both then and now.  

Being home has allowed me to pursue my passions, family and motherhood being the most important!  In my spare time though, I love to play with paper...

and create pretty things...

I just recently opened up an Etsy shop called The French Marketplace and I love it because it allows me to share what I've made as well as connect and encourage other people who are doing the same.  I'm still learning but I'm determined to make it work!

I also love to paint furniture.  I think it is such fun to find an old piece and turn it back into something beautiful.  Old furniture has so many stories to tell and so much amazing character!

I'm especially fond of the French pieces that I find.

Finally, I enjoy photography.  I'm always trying to learn new things and hone my skills but most importantly, I love to capture moments in time, our children, and childhood.  I want  to remember every moment.  I love  scrapbooking and am a huge fan of Project Life!!

Well, that's a bit about me in a nutshell.

Spring is in the Air! Not so much!

I decided since it was not looking like we will be getting Spring anytime soon to maybe put some Spring into a few vignettes throughout the house.

This is what March is still looking like here.  Ughhh!

I added some white roses and a cute bird's nest I got at the flea market this week end to my white chippy tote in my kitchen.  Ahhh feeling a little more like Spring.

Added flowers and birdhouses to my entry way chippy white chair.

Added some flowers and a bird
nest to the wreath.

Added some flowers and dried hydrangea and little white pots to the top of this ottoman/coffee table.  Used a white vintage frame for everything to sit in.

A nice garden hat says Spring.

Added some spring to the back window of my dining room.

My love birds wanting to see  Spring.

Added some birds and their nests to my chippy  Wren birdhouse in the corner of the dining room.

Bird nests and birdhouses makes it feel like Spring.

Added a new wicker basket with flowers and garden hat to the bike rental sign.

Many of you have seen my old vintage bike.  I just added some spring like flowers to the basket with a burlap bow.

Put some daisies and a robins nest in my garden boots.

It just helps while doing some Spring Cleaning to spruce up some of my vignettes to look more like Spring.

Also added some homemade flowers and doilies to my shelf lamp in my office.

Well with wind chills today at -22 and the high only 9 degrees and not looking much better for the rest of this week.  The only thing that feels close to spring is the little decor changes.

Hope you are starting to see signs of life and Spring where you are.  I think in the Chicago burbs  we will not be seeing Spring anytime soon.

Sharing with Wow Us Wednesday

Feelin a little blue

Sharing some color I added to my gray and white Master Bedroom.

I found this blue comforter with light gray and white flowers at Home Goods.

I liked the subtle gray and white roses to match all the gray and white in the room.  I love a lot of pillows just thrown onto the bed each day.   Just a messy comfy look.

I like the spring like feel it brings to this room.  I also painted the cottage roof and my grandma's darning basket a light gray that sits on top of the armoire.

I took the ruffle white shabby chic curtains from the living room and moved them back to the Master.  I like that they let a lot of natural light into our bedroom.  We have a very large picture window in our bedroom which takes up a lot of the wall space but I love the natural light that flows in this room.  It was snowy and gloomy today but normally the sunshine streams in.  I also can see out at all the flowers and trees.  So pretty in the summer.

Still love my headboard made out of old cottage doors.  My husband finished the top with crown molding.

My beautiful Valentine's Day Roses from  from the hubby are on his side of the bed for the pictures.  Normally these are not there.  A clock radio and three plug in for his radio's and pagers etc. and the phone.  They are all hidden for the pictures!! 

 Oh no now you know we do not live like we are in a magazine!! The secret is out.  I think there is some dust on the floors too.  Don't look!

On my nightstand I have the  psalm of solomon and my beautiful love birds my hubby gave me for our anniversary.

Trying to bring in a little blue to the grey and white for a more Spring like feel.  We are getting 6 to 8 more inches of snow.
