I am in the process of changing up my living room to a Pottery Barn Meets Cottage. I recently replaced my slipcovered sectional with a leather sectional. Just more practical with my basset hound and grand daughter and family that love to lounge on my sectional. I miss my white slipcovered sectional it just was not practical with that being the only piece of furniture in our family room. We use this piece all the time. So washing those slipcovers was not fun.
My challenge is getting a cottage feel to the leather sectional. So I am working on that room and should have it ready soon to reveal.
In the meantime I did the entry way that is part of the living room. Here is how it looked before:
The entry way is in front of my living room. I had a lot of chippy shabby pieces in here. |
So far this entry way only cost $12 for the mdf board. Everything else I had including paint. |
I added another small white frame inside the bigger frame and then put this Count your Blessings sign inside for the middle frame. |
I added my summer garden hats and rain boots to the front entry decor. |
Here are some examples of chalkboard art work I could reproduce onto my chalk board frames. I think this might be a good idea and I can have fun changing them up. |
So here is my new entry way. I think I will put the chalk board in these two end frames and then do up a cute saying for each one. I think that will be a fun idea for these frames. So for $12 I got a new look to my entry way. Hope to have the living room to show you soon. My pottery barn meets cottage is coming out very nicely. Have a great rest of the week. Come back on Saturday for Spotlight. I have a great blogger for you to get to know. Kris :)

ReplyDeleteIt looks great, you did a marvelous job. Keep that man working he's getting a lot done around there.
ReplyDeleteKris, This is amazing. I love the umbrella so much. You sure make me want to redo my little entry way. I think the chalkboard idea would be so nice, as you could change up sayings as the season or holidays came. Tell Terry he as handy a shirt pocket...That's what I say to Ted.:):) Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLoving the changes, Kris. I guess we are both in remodeling mode.
ReplyDeleteOh that looks so pretty Kris!! Can't wait to see the rest of the room!
ReplyDeleteIt feels so peaceful Kris, nothing here competes for attention with the other pieces, I love how your eye just takes in the uncluttered poetic beauty, yet there is so much to take in at the same time....bravo to the dream team here!
ReplyDeleteXoxo

ReplyDeleteLove this Kris!
ReplyDeleteLove this Kris!
ReplyDeleteNice, Kris! Those woods and blacks will blend nicely with the leather as you approach it in your LR.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful. The paneling is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good, Kris. That was a fine idea to use the MDF board for panels. That really adds a lot of character to a plain wall. Love the frames, too, and the idea of chalkboards in them. Can't wait to see what you write. When I come to visit I am going to erase one of them when you aren't looking and write something else. CJK calls me Naughty Nana for a reason, you know.
ReplyDeleteYour cottage/Pottery Barn look is working perfectly so far. xo Diana
I just love this, Kris, it is a beautiful transformation!
ReplyDeleteJP

ReplyDeleteWHERE DID YOU GET THOSE FRAMES??!!! I never find frames that are in good condition or look anything like those beauties. Sigh. Love your new umbrella design - it's perfect. I think you need to throw a quilt on the back of the sofa with pillows to match. I'm so helpful. lol

Oh my gosh, Kris, you 2 work in fast forward, while I'm plugging along in slow motion! Your entryway looks amazing! I love the straw hats hanging on the hooks and your white frames on the wall. Chalkboard inserts would be fun so you can change your greetings with the seasons and holidays. I can relate to having a sofa that will hold up to young children and pets and I can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the wonderful spring weather!
Really very pretty, I wish I had a entry way as large as yours. Our is teeny tiny! But you have inspired me to renew her look in an new spring light!
ReplyDeleteLove your entry way...very pretty!! I've had a Pottery Barn/Cottage Style for a while now in our living room. I have a large brown suede sofa and have cream pillows with soft red cabbage roses and soft beige leaves on them. Purchased some of their lights about 6 months ago. I am slowing getting the look that I want. I have several Pottery Barn books that I've had for a few years and have been getting ideas from them. Can't wait to see your finished look when you get it all done.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
Wow, it looks gorgeous, Kris! I love that you reused what you already had on hand. The trim that your hubby added is so neat, it looks as if it's always been there! Love your frames, too. Can't wait for the big reveal:)
ReplyDeleteI love both looks, and I am impressed (of course) that you only spent $12. Well done!! I love to reuse and repurpose, and your project shows how much we can really done without spending a fortune. Love it!
ReplyDeleteFantastic transformation! Looks really fresh and will be fun to change out for the seasons. Good idea to do the chalkboards in outside frames - will bring in more black up there. Looking forward to seeing your leather sofa and changes there.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so good, Kris! I love how it turned out and I love the paint color you chose for above the board and batten portion. You've certainly given it a cottage look and I love the different accessories you've used here. Your umbrella looks great! : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a great new look. I love the chalk board ideas. Your umbrella and frames inside of frames. A little bit of Spring is wonderful right now, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI love your re-do, Kris! I think the chalkboard idea is perfect for your frames! We are trying to get our entryway project done, too...it's getting there...lol
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative and talented. I also love the chalkboard idea. Everything looks so springish and fresh! Your blog is so inpirational! I must make a "To Do" list for my hubby! Lol. Thanks for visiting me! Karen
It is great that you only spent 12.00 on your entry hall. It really looks good. I like the idea of changing up the chalkboards - that will be a lot of fun. The French umbrella looks better without all the greenery hanging down - such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you are having some Spring and all the snow is going away.
Have a great rest of the week and can hardly ait to see you "new living room".
Mary
How adorable and very creative! I think you are the most creative person ever and can do anything with it turning out perfectly...I love it Kris!
ReplyDeleteThe entryway is very pretty Kris. Like everyone else, I can't wait to see your living room reveal. Have fun decorating!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so nice and pretty. The white frames are gorgeous and teh boots very lovely

The entryway looks great, Kris! Can't wait to see your ideas for warming up your leather sofa. That is something I am constantly working on! I usually keep a quilt or throw over the back of my dark brown leather to lighten and warm it up, but it is always pulled off by one of my kids or dogs (along with all the throw pillows). Love the board and batten and can't wait to see your chalk art too.
ReplyDeleteI love both looks, but there's just something about the second one that really speaks to me. It's probably the 3 frames. I love doing things in threes. Love the chalkboard idea. I think chalkboard is always a good idea. lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris this is amazing. I love every detail, you nailed it! !
ReplyDeleteCindy
HI Kris, Love the new Entry Way. The umbrella looks amazing and the empty frames are just gorgeous. The whole space looks great. Can't wait to see the the Living Room
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your room reveal with your leather sofa! I like what you did in the entry area. The coat hooks and bench are perfect for that area. I like the wainscoting trim that you installed too.
ReplyDeleteI really love what you did to your entry Kris, it's quite charming and welcoming. Love the white frames above the board and batten and your chalkboard idea would be perfect and fun. The vintage umbrella commands more attention now with less flowers and that cute bird is perfect. We're installing board and batten in our house this weekend and I'm curious how far apart you placed your boards? I like the spacing of yours. Can't wait to see your family room reveal!
ReplyDeleteHi Marie,
DeleteWe placed the boards about 36 inches apart. He measured the wall and divided by three for this size wall. Hope that helps.
Good luck.
Kris
Love those straw hats.
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new look!!! We are about to start some re-doing around here and I just might try this look in my foyer.
Blessings,
Linda
Love how all your renovations are coming along. So perfect. Can't wait to see more.

But it looks very sweet.
Don't ever change your Romantic Style !!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE this look Kris!! I wanted to do an umbrella with tulips and when I went to look for my tulips a few days ago they are gone! I can't find them anywhere. I am thinking now I may have given them to my DIL! Who knows!! HAHA!! So pretty!!!
