French Vintage Umbrella

Happy Sunday.

 Terry and I took a drive to Morris on Friday where all the cute little shops are that I love.  While shopping I saw this old vintage umbrella hanging in one shop with all kinds of spring flowers inside it.  It was so pretty.  I thought to myself I have an old vintage french umbrella at home in the closet.  Hmmmm.......

 So this is what I decided to do with what I already had a home.
My vintage french umbrella.   I love this umbrella the wrap tie even has an old vintage button instead of snaps like today's umbrella's have.








I had some of these flowers from last Spring still in my storage closet so I grabbed them and made this Spring Umbrella.

This was my first version.  I used less flowers.

This is my second version.  I used a few more flowers. Which one do you think I should keep.  Less flowers or more flowers?  This will be cute hanging on my front door or maybe in my new entry way decor.  We will see.

We are having just gorgeous weather here in Chicago Land.  It is in the high 40's and going to 50's.  I know that is cold for a lot of you but for us this feels so great.  We have been at zero and single digits for so long this is feeling really great.

Hope we have turned the corner on Winter and we will see Spring soon.

    Oh what a fabulous idea. I love both, however the less shows more of the umbrella. So cute.

    I love both----and I kind of like the lush look but that is just me. You did a great job-what a fun thing to do. I have an old umbrella, too, although it is not French....it is just plain old--like me. xo Diana

    That is super cute, Kris, and I like the first rendition, a less is more idea. You know what surprises me? That you haven't already painted your umbrella white! I bet you're thinking about it, though, aren't you? :) We're finally turning our backs on winter too - temps rising and staying there in the foreseeable forecast. Yes!

      Thanks Lin I already have taken this apart more this morning and took the greenery hanging down out and you see all the umbrella. I like it much better. We might hit 57 this week so excited!!! Have a great week.

    Love your French umbrella and I also like the first one too, because you can see more of the umbrella. Both are pretty though! Would you believe I've never gone shopping in downtown Morris? I've been to the French Hen events but never to any of the stores. I need to rectify that soon!! Have you been to Soulful Sparrow in downtown Elgin? I'm lovin' this weather too. Supposed to hit 57 degrees sometime this week. Can't wait!!

    Kris, I like the less flowers , it lets the umbrella show a bit more. I am so happy our temperatures are getting warmer in this area. It's seems forever to me. I am so ready to clean out our flowerbeds...yikes, that's going to be a huge job. Blessings to you and your sweet husband, xoxo,Susie

    That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! It would also look great hanging on a front door for the month of April (April showers bring May flowers). I like the first pic the best where the nest is at the top of the arrangement.

    I love it either way. What a great idea. I have a pretty one from Calico Corners, the fabric store made out of Wavery fabric. But, the darn umbrella won't stay open. I will have to try and make some, but the print has lots of pretty flowers and a green background.
    So gld that you and Terry had a nice little shopping trip. You are so lucky that he likes to do that. Most men would be home watching SPORTS.

    What a neat idea! I understand that you see more of the umbrella in the photo with less flowers...but I like LOTS of flowers in arrangements. I'm sure you will re-do the whole thing at least a dozen times...lol. It will look wonderful how ever it ends up, because you always know how to dress things up!

    It looks super cute both ways, Kris! I do think I like the "less flowers" look best though because you can still see that portion of the umbrella that is covered by "more flowers". Hope you are melting like we are. There is actually some optimism here in Ohio that Spring is on its way!

    Pretty parapluie. That would be a useful way to use an umbrella here. :) When we to Italy, we brought a compact umbrella, only one. We needed two, but all they had were longed cane umbrellas. Children kept pointing to my daughter's saying they wanted a little umbrella like hers. Of course, it was not little, full-sized and closed. xoxo

    Well, normally I'm a more is more kind of girl, but on this occasion I think I prefer the umbrella with less flowers. I've seen this idea on pinterest before, and it's one of the MANY items on my 'things to try' list. Love what you've done, as always, lol.

    Hi Kris, love your umbrella! I made one a couple of years ago and still use it each April. My umbrella was not vintage like yours. I love that yours is! I think it looks gorgeous both ways, but I kind of like less flowers because you can see the sweet umbrella a little bit better.

    Hi Kris, LOVE your umbrella flower display. The nest is the perfect touch and so spring inspiring. I did one last year with a vintage ivory umbrella and roses with a chalk board tag that said welcome. Your umbrella is a vintage treasure from France!! Love the button closure!
