Here is my long awaited change ups to my living room.
This is still a work in progress but I finally felt like I could take a few pics to show you how I made the leather sectional blend more with all my cottage and salvage pieces.
I am calling this room my Pottery Barn mingles with Chippy Cottage.
|
A few weeks back I was in a shop I love called Janeen's Home Decor in Geneva and I have always admired this beautiful oak display piece when I would come in the shop. The day I was in the shop the girl that owns this piece was there and I asked if she would ever think of selling the piece. To my surprise she said yes and after she told me this was an old church alter I fell even deeper in love. I knew this beautiful piece of history would be a great way to display our TV and have it warm up the room with its lovely oak and beautiful carved features. |
|
I
The color of the oak alter helps the sectional blend better in the room too. |
|
Terry was able to make two of my distressed wood bird cages into pendant lights on each side of the TV. Bird cages by day and pretty pendant lighting at night. I also have my old chippy half door back up and put my old framed out mirror for the top of the door and to reflect the chandelier. |
|
This is the other chippy bird cage pendant light on the other side of the TV. |
|
I am still looking for some fun decor for under the pendant lights on the oak alter. I also am thinking about getting some kind of salvage barn doors and putting them on a track from the ceiling for in front of the TV screen to cover it from site. A work in progress. I saw someone do that with an old headboard and it looked cool to cover up the TV while not watching it. So I am hunting for something cool for this TV exposure! Stay tuned!! |
|
The pendant lights are on a dimmer so they are very nice at night to give us a soft light while watching TV. |
|
My reading chair and an old chippy bench for a stool along with my old vintage window and another of my old bird houses hangs on the wall in this corner. |
|
I left on the barn board planks on the leather sectional. I felt they tied the sectional in with the chippy cottage salvage pieces in the room. |
|
I left up my old cottage shutters and arched window. I hung an old vintage iron mail box on the window with some faux flowers. |
|
My little distressed coffee table/ blanket chest. I store all my throws in this little chest. Brought in this chipped yellow watering can that had been left out in the garden all winter. It was chipped to perfection!
|
|
Terry's comfy worn leather recliner next to a chippy ladder with all his remotes! Every fireman needs a ladder Right?!!! He stores all his remotes on the ladder. What is it about guys and having so many remotes!!! |
|
Since my new entry re do was more on the line of pottery barn and my living room opens to the entry I think this decor gives a better flow to both areas. |
|
My little design assistant likes the pottery barn chic for her bed too!!!!! Funny how ever since I got rid of my white slipcovered sectional and got the leather one she does not like to go on the sectional anymore. Likes her bed now!! I can't win. I guess it was more fun to lounge when I had the white slipcovers for Libby than the leather. |
|
I am still looking for a wonderful rug to anchor this room and pull it all together. I am on the hunt! Everything in this room redo I had except for the new Church Alter piece. So it was fun to re hang and make the pendant bird cage lights for this room out of the salvage I had.
Now the room has some pottery barn and some chippy cottage. I think I got the leather sectional to mingle finally with all my cottage decor.
We lounge, snack and watch TV in this room. My granddaughter loves her juice boxes and snacks on this sectional while watching her shows and Libby on occasion will hop up on this sectional too. So it is all good the leather is easy maintenance. I was happy to marry the very practical pottery barn sectional to some wonderful salvage that I love so much in my decor.
Have a great week. Kris :) |

Kris,
ReplyDeleteYour room has come together very nicely and looks GREAT! Love Terry's little ladder. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend with your family.
Blessings,
Linda
Thanks so much Linda. We had a great Easter week end. Lots of fun. Hope yours was good too.
DeleteKris
The new TV stand works great with the couch and does warm up the living room palette. I love everything especially the bird cages. I am so into bird cages right now!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi. Hope your Easter week end was good. Have a wonderful start to the new week ahead.
DeleteKris
What a wonderful piece! It looks great in your home.
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC job, Kris. You DID it!!! By adding that altar you tied the leather section right into the room...and leaving the chippy pieces on the sofa skirt ties that into everything else, too. The added bonus is things do not get under the sofa (from kids). I think the room looks really great- it marries Pottery Barn and Cottage perfectly. You really have an eye for pulling things together, Kris. Love it ALL! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space Kris-it is so homey and cheerful and bright-GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great marriage, Kris. I knew that was an altar as soon as I saw the first photo! Wonder how long before you put distressing on that piece, lol? Love how Terry made those birdcages into pendant lights - the shadowplay is really nice.
ReplyDeleteThe brown is working out beautifully with all the extra touches you've put in. What a gorgeous space!!
ReplyDeleteYour new fabulous piece is PERFECT to bring together your new sectional into this room. Love how the leather and woods bring out your other brown tone accessories hanging behind the sofa.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Okay, this is all so gorgeous I can hardly stand it. That beautiful altar looks exactly like the top half of our 1892 piano, which gives me a great idea.. Anyway, I so enjoyed seeing all this beauty!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Nice marriage of white chippy cottage with the brown leather of the sectional. And that alter... oh my! Perfection.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous piece! What are you thinking about for the rug? Something that won't show juice box spillage?
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a very well built piece of furniture. I bet is heavy too. I like how it blends with the rest of the room
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! The alter is a perfect piece to tie it all together. I knew you could do it! It's all beautiful Kris!
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing piece Kris! It looks wonderful in your room. I love that it had a previous life as an altar!
ReplyDeletesending hugs...
Kris,
ReplyDeleteI'm in a silly mood today ... soapstone is arriving soon and being installed. I guess excited and nervous all in one! You know you'll be getting some pics emailed soon!!! Now my very creative and design friend - Total Pottery Barn meets Chippy shabby chic. Never doubted you for one second. Altar and TV looks mighty chic and cool ... Even a bit like Antropologie styled. Hey put the Animal Planet on for Libby... Max and Simon watch it... Except they don't like the snake shows. Power Kris, power, manly power in remotes!!! What can I say all us wives wonder what's up with the remotes. Your arrangement of furniture and natural wood tone touches are a fresh and exciting change for you. I for one can't wait to see what creative ideas you come up with for underneath those adorable birdcage pendant cage lights.
xoxo,
Vera
It came out beautiful, Kris. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was altar, and I love the finish on it. Old persian rugs can often have colors that pick up the leather, the darker woods, and the creams. A good dealer will let you take a few home to try. Sometimes faded and a bit worn looks prettier, and because they are wool they clean up with some soda water and blotting. My toy poodle just made a mess the other day! (I've even used the mildest soap with water, and nothing has happened to it, and the one that this happened to has silk in it too.) Aubussons are pretty too, but it depends on how flowery they are. Actually there are so many types of orientals. A plainer rug could be perfect too, but some sisal and some jutes show everything. When I'm not looking, my toy poodle prefers to jump on the white on the daybed to his soft blankets that match his fur. I guess they have good taste.
ReplyDeleteYou really have a knack for coordinating different styles and making them work. Love the man "ladder remote" idea... and how it all fits into such a shabby shic look! I know you'll find the perfect rug to pull the colors of the room all together. Have a blessed Monday!
ReplyDeleteOh Kris I LOVE your newest find...what a beauty!!
ReplyDeleteOh Kris! How beautifully the wood altar ties in with your new sectional! Perfect! Love the wood on the bottom of the sectional. Looking good!
ReplyDeleteJudy
I love it Kris!!! You know I like to mix wood with all my whites and this old alter piece is pretty amazing:-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,

The church alter piece really does tie in nicely with the leather! How lucky that she was willing to sell it to you! Those bird cage pendant lights are so clever. They totally do double duty, day and night! Oh, and the remotes...my hubby just got a soundbar for the tv and of course that means one more remote. Ugh. :)
ReplyDeleteWow!! The church alter piece really ties everything together and looks so very beautiful! I absolutely love the leather couch and recliner! And how perfect is that ladder beside your hubbies chair?!?! Gorgeous!! Everything is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteKris, I really love how your room turned out! I think it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy Jo
Love your new church alter piece, Kris. It is gorgeous and it really ties in well with your sofa. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteWow, Kris, that alter is fabulous and just what you needed to balance the brown leather sofa. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteKris, you're right...the altar was such a score! What a great piece to tie in the leather sectional! (And I love that chippy trunk!) Your living room has such a different look now...a good change! Definitely the Pottery Barn meets chippy cottage vibe you were going for! :)
ReplyDeleteSusan
Fabulous! The room is amazing. Pottery Barn should be knocking on your door to feature your room ~ it's certainly much more interesting than their ultra predictable staging. (And I'm a former store manager!)
ReplyDeleteThe alter is amazing. I love how your alter and couch look with the floor. I never even noticed the floor before. Your other little pops of brown in baskets and nests pull it all together. I'll say it again, that alter is amazing! What a great T.V. stand.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of chippy here Kris, and the altar well, you know how I love to create altars and you my dear have a piece to love. You can use this piece for so many things and even a center island.
ReplyDeleteEvery thing has pulled together in perfect harmony with your chippy style, a room to love.
Xx
Dore
That altar is such a beautiful piece, Kris. I really like the wood tone it adds to your leather and beautiful whites.
ReplyDeleteLove that altar piece and it is the perfect piece to marry your sectional in with the room. The sectional and the altar piece brings warmth to the room. I don't think I noticed your floor before either. You've really got yourself a very pretty and warm room. You did good girl, now remember since there's an altar in the room no more hanky panky going on!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks so good! I love the wooden alter that you're using for the TV. That really makes a nice focal point and balances the brown leather in the room. It doesnt surprise me that your dog isn't lying on your new sofa. Murphys law huh?
ReplyDeleteYour room looks great!! Love the wood altar...what a beautiful piece. Love your pottery barn sectional too.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
What a treasure of a find the altar is. I do not think animals like leather so that is probably why your sweet one is in her dog bed. I bet she misses her big sofa. Lol xo
ReplyDeleteOh, the altar is stunning, Kris...and it really pulls your room together...the whole space is BEAUTIFUL.
ReplyDeleteTotally LOVE the altar!! It absolutely brought everything together perfectly. I am glad you took the ruffle off the sofa and left the boards, it's the right touch without being to frilly! I know you have worked really hard pulling this room together and I think the results are fabulous!! Enjoy your week! Blessings, Cindy xoxo
ReplyDeleteThe alter is lovely and brings more depth and balance to your room. I knew you would figure it out!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so lovely. You are good at decorating that's for sure!!! I love that the piece you purchased is an Alter, how special
deezie
that sectional fits in beautifully..especially with the addition of that GORGEOUS alter piece! swoon!! Love the detail you've added to the base of the sofa...the chippy barn board plank...so clever! it all looks so fresh....warm....and still so "you"! well done! ;)
ReplyDeleteWell Kris once again you pulled it off - that alter piece is just stunning and works with your couch ( and Terry's chair ) perfectly - matches made in heaven !
ReplyDeleteAnd those birdcage lights?
O.M.G. - that's so over the top brilliant - is there anything that Man can't do?
Love every single thing about your living room :)
xxx
Kris, you so ROCK and nailed this. I love adding the other wood elements. The alter is gorgeous, it all flows seamlessly. I adore the birdcages turned lamps. Terry is so talented and so willing to help out all the time. What a team!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Great call on the altar! The warmth it brings to the room is perfect! ~Ann
ReplyDeleteTarnished Royalty
the church alter is beautiful, and i love the barn doors idea for the tv, kris! we're in the process of adding sliding barn door to our pantry:) have a great day!
ReplyDeleteNailed it Kris! The oak alter is stunning and grounds your leather sectional perfectly as does Terry's leather recliner. Genius turning your birdhouses into pendant lights - love this idea! Terry is definitely the Jack of all trades! I can't wait to see the rug you find for this room and the sliding barn door. You two are so talented!
ReplyDeleteI have really been looking forward to this post. I knew that you would add some darker colors to complement the sofa. What a great find a church alter! Can't wait to see more my friend. Love it all! I was nice to see the picture of your hall way behind the sofa, it all looks so amazing. Jo
ReplyDeleteI adore this room. The alter is absolutely perfect and so creative under the TV, and the pendant lights are brilliant! You definitely have a gift. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeletevery nice to bring in the warm browns. It helps the white look so much better in my opinion. Carry on!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice, Kris! You did a great job bringing in the leather and wood with your white décor. I love that alter piece. It works so great for the television, too. Your husband's recliner looks very comfortable. I think we are going to have to get one for my hubby and get rid of our little sectional. His back just can't take it anymore. I could deal with a recliner that looks like yours!
ReplyDeleteWow...the alter is magnificent...My motto...it never hurts to ask...the worst they can say is "no"...it was certainly your lucky day...that piece certainly ties in so well with the leather...you must want to sit in that room and admire that piece all day...and that Terry is magnificent too...those bird cage pendants are fabulous...Terry could certainly write a DIY book on all of his amazing projects!...Beautiful, beautiful room Kris...maybe you can find some religious related accessories to go on top of that phenomenal alter! I can hear the angels sing!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks amazing...the browns are blending in well. Love the alter and your bird cage lighting is so unique! What a beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteHello there! I found your blog while I was visiting Jane .. have to say I have never seen the combination of leather and shabby chic ~~~ and you have managed it beautifully! Happy Spring.
ReplyDeleteKris, it all looks so pretty! This is just an idea, not that it isn't pretty already. But have you thought about just slip covering the sectional seat cushions with an old quilt? I remember you saying the cushions are not removable, but couldn't remember if the seat cushions were removable. That might make them feel a little more tied together to you...but like I said, they look pretty to me. It was just an idea I wanted to share after seeing a pin on Pinterest with this idea. I love that alter...perfect for the tv and tying in the sofa! I know whatever you do, it'll all be gorgeous as ever. It always is!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Kris! Looks like Libby even matches your brown and white decor now:) And your birdcages turned lights are just wonderful!!! Your alter is gorgeous, what a lucky find! Maybe you could find a beautiful old religious piece to put on either side of the tv, like a Madonna statue.
ReplyDeleteYour old altar is amazing, Kris. Such a wonderful addition to your room. You may remember that I have leather furniture in our family room and it took me awhile to make it work with my cottage style. You have done a great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, you living room is beautiful. I love the white with the brown couches. Everything blends well together and the room looks so comfy. Hope you are having a nice week.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julie
WOW! That's all I can think to say! LOL love, love, love it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely charming! Hubs did a nice job on the birdhouse lamps. So many interesting things to look at! And, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is the perfect addition to your room : it links with the sofa and armchair, but also goes nicely with all your white.
ReplyDeleteKris, It is even better than before !! I love the arched window with the shutters beside it. I like the new TV stand. I see the burlap, hats and the water bottle case really help with the sofa. Love it. Terry's spot is great, with the remotes. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteKris, I wondered if that was a church piece the minute I spied it. Marvelous piece! I love the birdcages turned lights and all of your chippy sweetness!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Kris, you did a great job on the new space! Everypiece of furniture fits perfectly!! Thanks for sharing!! You're a true artist!!

What a beautiful room, I love the mix of soft chippy and "pottery barn" ! That big ole' alter os perfection!!!!
ReplyDeleteKris! You did it again! What a great piece and it really does tie all the darker tones in with the pretty shabby decor you love. I actually think the room looks bigger than when I was visiting and I would say you have more furniture now. Just love it!
ReplyDeleteI picked up Romantic Country at CVS yesterday and as always, I usually recognize a room from a blog. Well, Miss! I know I more than recognized this 5 page spread! I had been there. Hurray! I can't wait to show Emily!!
Stay dry! :)
Jane xx
What a great looking room and I adore that altar. Thanks for coming by my blog.
ReplyDeletekim
What a beautiful addition to your room Kris. I love pieces that have a history and the details makes it even more beautiful. You've done such an amazing job of putting this Pottery barn look together. Love it!! Thank you for linking up this week at Shabbilicious Friday.
ReplyDeleteHugs ~ Kerryanne
Your living room looks absolutely gorgeous and that altar looks perfect!!! You are such an inspiration!!! I'm afraid to add white to my home at this point in time due to kids and pets but hopefully in the future I'll be able to. Lol!!! Have a beautiful weekend, Kris!!!

That alter is just beautiful--I love it! I guess it proves if you don't ask you never know what you may be able to acquire!
ReplyDeleteYour living room looks wonderful, Kris. The alter was an amazing find! Everything looks perfect together. The birdcage light fixtures was an excellent idea! Time to put your feet up, and relax in your cozy room.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Gorgeous and bright and white!! Love Terry's club chair and ladder vignette - so very fitting for a fireman!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, Kris!
Poppy
Well you've done it! Successfully married pottery barn and chippy cottage. I love your new look living room. The bare wood and the leather add a lovely warmth to the room. What a great piece your altar/tv unit is, great talking point for a living room. Great colour on the wall too, love it all!
ReplyDeleteNice choice, Kris--you are such a talented decorator. I love that it used to be an altar. Don't you love it when just the right piece comes along?
ReplyDeleteYou did it! I knew you would figure out how to successfully combine the two decorating styles into one! I love the new alter piece! The oak is perfect with the brown leather. You now have those two pieces and Terry's chair (I thought it was in this room) to anchor your theme with all of the white and chippy pieces to enhance it! It looks fabulous! Love the bird cage lights too! Are they hard to make? I picked up a bunch of old metal colanders (I think that's what they are) and wanted to make lights out of them, but have never used a cord kit before. I guess I'm just going to have to dive in and give it a try! I love Libby in her little bed! I guess dogs like fabric better than leather. Oh! The "bricks" turned out great too and go so well adding texture to everything! I just may have to come to your area and stare at your room for a while LOL! Congrats on a great job! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteKris, your new piece is so beautiful! You made the right combination, room looks very nice, can`t wait to see it all done!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend!
Hugs,
Vesna
WOW, Kris, everything works so well together. Love the alter holding the TV, it goes so well with your leather sectional. You really hit the nail on the head bringing in the alter. Looks like Miss Libby likes her new bed also.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week - love it all.
Mary
You have got an eye for a great piece Kris - the wooden altar is perfect for your room.
ReplyDeleteThe bird cage pendant lights are so pretty - another inspiring idea of yours - clever you!
Wishing you a happy Sunday
Hugs
Shane x
Everything looks so beautiful!! I love the altar! The design and the wood are gorgeous. The pendants are great ~ love that you have dimmers on them too. Dogs don't seem to like leather...at least my son's dogs have always wanted a blanket or throw to lie on. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Sunday!
xo
Pat
that alter piece is an amazing find! I think your sofa and the new piece give your space much more depth, and work beautifully with your whites.
ReplyDeleteJust read your current post, take care Kris, I'll be praying for your. big hugs!
Gorgeous...can I ask what your wall color is? I'm trying to find a new living room color and yours looks exactly like what I need!
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle,
DeleteThe color is called Mushroom Bisque by Behr. We get the Behr with primer in it from Home Depot. Love that paint. Hope that helps.
Kris
Well Kris, I think you found the perfect solution! The altar perfectly balances the color of your leather sectional. And I LOVE the bird cage pendants!! So clever. I'm glad you left the chippy board on the bottom of the sectional. I really like that addition. Libby! I can't believe she doesn't go up on the furniture now. Pets are funny, aren't they? Hope you're recuperating quickly from your surgery!
ReplyDeleteoh my. ooohh my. beauty.
ReplyDeleteKris, this looks so lovely! The wood and leather blend perfectly with the white in the room. A nice balance! I'm in love with that umbrella you have hanging in your entry way. All so charming! Beautiful!!
ReplyDelete
