I am a retired RN. I love all things white, chippy, vintage and cottage chic. I am married to my best friend and handyman who helps me make our cottage chic. You can read more on my About Me page.
Kris, I cannot wait to see how it all turns out! I liked the trim you put at the bottom of the leather sofa, but it just wasn't your style for this room. I know the new slip cover for the gifted sofa will be a perfect fit! The wall colors are gorgeous!! Looks so beautiful, airy and light!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, what a great sofa. It will be stunning when slip covered for your cottage look. Love your entry wall too. So fresh and pretty for summer. Have fun and can't wait to see the new sofa.
ReplyDeleteHugs, cm
I cannot wait to see your new sofa...how exciting!!! O M G your entryway is to die for....drooling....sigh
ReplyDeleteMy couch is the exact same shape, Kris. I think it may be the same manufacturer. It is very well made and so comfy. I can't wait to see it covered!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the wall color....it makes me want to re-paint my living room now!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the slipcover :o)
~Des
Can't wait to see your custom slipcover! What a great deal! I'm always in awe of those who can sew things like slipcovers. I wouldn't even know where to begin. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your custom slipcover. Leather just isn't my style either, so I understand. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteOH NO!! Why did I read this today? Kris, I want that colour now. Se came back from vacation and sat down to discuss the interior redo and plans. awe decoded to keep the creamy white and change out the green accent wall to a more sagey green . Looking into a white slipcovered couch and recliner.
ReplyDeleteNow I want to redo yesterday's conversation. Hahahaha.
Excited to seen your newly slipcovered sofa! I know it will be beautiful.
With a Baby Win, a Bella and a Master Vic, yup... back to slip covered furniture we go. :)
When I ever repaint my home, I told my hubby that I want to go with a light creamy grey. I have seen some gorgeous grey sofas and I think I could accent with red. Oh, I want a change up so bad. Can't wait to see your finished room. I know it will be FAB!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a wonderful feel seeing all the white backdrop to your beautiful setting. Love that cornice header from the balaster posts, it really is a great idea :)
ReplyDeleteWell, Kris you have me wanting to get this home with a nice white fresh coat of white, white.....
Xoxo
Dore
I Love your new paint color Kris! So pretty! I think the new couch slipcovered will be just what you're looking for. Can't wait to see it all done.
ReplyDeleteoh such cottagey gorgeousness. It truly is like a painting. I could just sit and look at different things all day.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so nice and I can't wait to see your slipcover. Have fun!!
ReplyDelete:)
Can't wait to see your finished sofa with slipcover! I know what you mean about trying to make something work... At our last house, I also went with a leather couch (because I knew my dear husband wanted one). Well, that is now out in his home office, where he enjoys it :). I do love some leather couches - but the one we had "fought" with everything else aesthetically. Hope you get just the look and feel you're after. Thank you for the paint colors - - I'm considering painting our bedroom and like the idea of white with just a hint of gray... Xo, ~julie
ReplyDeleteYou know Kris the floral sofa looks very similar in shape to the Ikea Ektorp. You might want to check measurements and see if the Ektorp slipcover would fit because its only $50. We have two Ektorp sofas and we buy new slipcovers every 2 yrs just because they are so affordable.
ReplyDeleteI believe you will be happier with returning to a white palette and slipcovered furniture. You must be worn out from all the painting. Time to sip some sun tea in your garden. xo Kerrie
Can't wait to see your sofa with the slipcover. Leather will just never be "cottagey"!!
ReplyDeleteJudy
LOL< Kris- Bless your heart- when I saw that beautiful leather couch I thought...uh-oh---Wonder how long Kris can live with the brown? You, dear heart, are a soft, romantic, cushy loving gal. That couch is going to be just WONDERFUL after you get it slip-covered. Your daughter is a LUCKY girl! That paint color is absolutely perfect! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteWow, such a deal............that sofa is gonna look great slipcovered. Although the leather sofa is nice and practical, I sort of thought the same thing NanaDiana thought.......lol Cause I know even tho leather is so practical with Pets, and easy to keep clean, I would not do well with it myself, and your decorating is even more soft and romantic than mine......lol
Oh well, sometimes you just gotta try it to know.................and it turned out great so that is all that matters.........
Guessing yall are okay, since you posted, I heard there was a tornado in your area today, and thought about you.
Blessings, Nellie
Beautiful room so far. Love the black and white. Good choice to let the leather go. Some things just don't work no matter what.
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteYour walls look romantic and embrace and the sofa when slipcovered will transform into a serene restful and comfortable space.
xoxo,
Vera
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am loving everything. I can not wait to see the slipcover.
Carla
I am not surprised at all Kris! I never felt like you loved your leather sofa, no matter how many tweaks you made to it! I'm sure, once you receive your slip cover and make your adjustments, you will settle into your beautiful LR again! Of course, then you will probably decide to like a new style but until then ... Sending good thoughts! Cindy xoxo
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteSounds like everybody is happy...your daughter gets a great sofa...your friend passes on a sofa that she no longer needs and you get the sofa that you really want :) Looking forward to seeing the slipcover.
Blessings,
Linda
What a great trade-off! And Cottage White is one of my favorites!!
ReplyDeleteLoving all your new changes, Kris! The shape of the new sofa is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMy fingers are crossed that we will finally get rid of our old brown leather couch this summer and replace it with something more fitting for a little cottage!
So much to do... :)
Enjoy your week!
Hugs,
Lin
Hi Kris
ReplyDeleteLove the way its all coming together. Love the white!!! and that couch is fantastic
have a great day
deezie
Kris, my mouth dropped when I read you got rid of your new leather sectional - your daughter must be thrilled! Your living room is coming along nicely and I can't wait to see the slip covered sofa in the space. Lisa makes beautiful slipcovers so I know it'll be fabulous. How does hubby feel about loosing his comfy sectional?
ReplyDeleteHi Marie,
DeleteTerry is ok with losing the sectional. He has his recliner so it is all good. Hope you are having a great day. Thanks for your sweet visit.
Kris
Yes i thought when you got the big brown sofa , it didn't look like your style for white shabby chic
ReplyDeleteI know you got it for your baby to sit on LOL just keep his sweet little paws clean for the new slip covered sofa.
I use to keep a wash cloth by my kitchen door to always wipe off my little pugs feet when we came in and out 15 times a day LOL
I love when serendipity like this happens and one ends up with what they've wanted all along. Love the changes, Kris. Soft gray with white is a lovely combination and your cottage is shining. We're buried in work here, but I just had to stop by and say "hi". Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteOMG! I just KNEW you weren't going to be happy with the leather! Seems like your other followers thought so too, lol. I think I've finally got mine to work by painting the floors with a white wash finish so that the boards show through and adding a HUGE sisal rug everything else is white so the brown with plenty of white cushions just about works ............... for now!

that old floral sofa that you're having recovered reminds me of the one under my slipcover! Mine is one of those sofa's that is very well made by a reputable manufacturer too. My sofa is over 20 years old and is still comfortable and doesn't squeak. you will not be disappointed by having that under your slipcover! I can't wait to see it! I would like to have a custom slipcover made for mine one day. I'm glad to hear that your daughter is liking the leather sofa in her home now.
ReplyDeleteKris, Can't wait to see the slip covers. I love your entryway. The hats are so sweet. Blessings for a good week. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLove your entry Kris and look forward to seeing your couch!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I'm happy for you that you made the switch with the couch. It isn't really you and you weren't happy and happy is important. I love everything so far and can't wait to see the reveal of the whole room and that couch.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Hi Kris :)
ReplyDeleteI had a leather couch for awhile too and I just couldn't stand it. I love them in a manly library, but it's just not my style either. Plus you can't wear anything like short or skirt in the Summer without your legs sticking to it. I can't wait to see the slipcover.
Your entry is darling!
xo,
rue
You sound just like me Kris, if it doesn't fit like you want it you just have to fix it so it does. Maybe with this slip cover not being so big will be easier to clean with your precious furry friend around. I'm loving all that you have done, it's so fresh and airy. Can't wait to see the out come. Jo
ReplyDeleteSo pretty as always <3
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for all of the great updates..I love the sofa...it has great bones and I think it is going to look magnificent slipcovered!!
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautiful Kris that I think to myself 'how could she do anything to make it better'? Then lo and behold you and Terry come up with some fabulous project that is drop dead gorgeous!!! You two never cease to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteLove the crisp white walls. How nice to get a free couch. Can't wait to see the slip.
ReplyDeleteWin/Win Kris !
ReplyDeleteI love the shape of the couch - much more you - and it'll be beautiful with a white slip cover ( I guess to match the chair you had done? )
Everything looks so gorgeous girlfriend !
xxx
It's all looking so pretty Kris. I'm looking forward to seeing what the slipcover looks like. I'm still loving those chalkboards and the entry. It's so welcoming.
ReplyDeleteKris, you cute thing. I wondered from the beginning if the leather would cut if for you. Try as you might, just not cottagey enough. Can't wait to see your new slip cover!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
I'm so happy for you, Kris. I had the strong feeling that you wouldn't be able to adjust to the brown leather couch. It was so very different from your favorite style. It's wonderful that you could trade and that you will get back the look you love so much.
ReplyDeleteJulia
You gotta go with your gut, right Kris? If the leather wasn't working for you, you made the right choice. Can't wait to see the slip-covered couch - love your paint color, too!
ReplyDeleteKris, Can't wait to see how the couch will turn out, gorgeous I'm sure! Thanks for always sharing your inspirational ideas!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jody
That sofa is going to be gorgeous once you finish with it. Love everything about your entry way wall. Thanks so much Kris for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party. Featuring on my Facebook page today.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the new slipcover! I'm enjoying this game of musical sofas! LOL! Have fun with your re-do's! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling when something isn't quite right, it's just not right and needs to go. It's great your daughter was able to take use it...look forward to your "new" living room!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
So glad you're going with what your heart is telling you and you have a wonderful enabler in your loving hubby. One note...didn't you mention your fur baby had stopped getting on the sofa when it was leather...maybe the habit has been broken and you won't be laundering your new slip cover as much. Love the new color...very subtle. We are going with shades of grey on our walls also...but more bold. I love how the natural textures, blacks and creams pop against it. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteBack again Kris,
ReplyDeleteMake sure your fabric is heavy enough to not bleed the floral print through. I have two slip covers for my Taylor Scott sofa, and both of them I am so very tired of them, wishing I had a solid hemp grain sack one or a white linen one, staying away from the trendy canvas. I love the mattlessa one on it now, but I would like a simpilar more old-world look of clean lines no welting like ones of European cottage history with an authentic feel to an age old French cottage.
It will be wonderful to see the beauty this floral print takes on when it is slipped. As for my sofa, I would have to have it custom made through the company and the slips cost more then the pricey sofa yikes, so I though I would slowly take apart the one I dislike most being a canvas raised paisley pattern all in winter white, my more Tuscan faze I went through and try my hand at making a slip for my sofa, or higher it out to a local tailor who makes slips and still have a price that's hard to choke down but a savings.
It's great that you are able to have all this trading for free, and a vision of what you love.
Xx
Dore
Yes you will need a heavy fabric to prevent bleed though, but then that could be a good thing too hints of light color popping through. do you regret giving your old sectionals away? I know I'm on my 6th dinning room table and finally found the one that works, so keep trying until your do!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris. I always love to see your changes. So inspirational. It was great to meet you and Terry today at The Carriage House Antiques in Crystal Lake. Stop by again soon now that you have found us! Milena
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, I love the board and batten in your entry an the height of it - makes me want to change my bead board to board and batten. Everything is lovely and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the new sofa Have a wonderful day. Erin
ReplyDeleteSweet deal on the couch situation! We have leather, too, and I hate it! But it was a practical decision after 2 beautiful sets of furniture went downhill fast with kids in the house. Just couldn't stomach another beautiful set getting ruined in 5 years' time. One day, though!
ReplyDeleteYour walls look lovely!
The slipcovered couch will definitely be more you than that leather sofa. It was nice yes, but so not you. Can't wait to see the new look!
ReplyDeleteOMGOSH...I am sooo in luv...with every bit of it...
ReplyDeleteIf leather isn't for you, I'm glad all the switch-a-roo is going to work.
Somehow, I have the feeling the new cover.......is white. :)
That paint color is beautiful, what a perfect choice, And that wall is perfection!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the new couch cover!
You are rubbing off on me... I seem to get one room done and then start all over again! But each time they get better, at this rate I might have my home done about the time the mortgage is paid off... haha hehehehe! Can't wait to see it all done with the new couch and cover and I LOVE your new repurposed curtain rods.... you two are toooooo creative, LOVE it! 35 years with Terry, good for you two!!! We just had our 39th anniversary yesterday, had steaks on the grill and watched an old movie... perfect for these two old home bodies!! Hugs my friend!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, I'm a bit behind in reading my blog posts, but am delighted to see the changes you are making. I can't wait to see it when you are finished. :) Julie
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see it redone with your special touch!
ReplyDeleteOh, the entry way is so lovely! I could just sit there and wait for time to pass as I enjoyed all the pretty things. Caught up with you through The Dedicated House~Jolena @ While I Linger
ReplyDeleteOkay, I somehow missed this. I can't wait to see your new slipcover. We have leather but I don't love sitting on leather. I always have to put a throw down first. I'm sure your daughter will love the leather couch.
ReplyDeleteI love when things turn out this way Kris... everyone is happy! I look forward to see the next stage for your living room. Thank you for sharing at Shabbilicious Friday last week. I'm featuring your entry way at tomorrow's party. Hugs xx
