We put our home on the market this week. It was a hard decision but one that we were going to have to do eventually. We debated on waiting to see where Terry would land a job before we sold this house but we talked about it and thought it would be good to put it up on the market while our weather was still nice and the house has curb appeal with the garden flowers.
So if it sells before Terry finds a new job we will just have to store all of our stuff and go to Plan B.
Just praying something will come through for him and we will also sell this home about the same time. In a perfect world lol!!!!! A girl can hope right?!!!!!
Anyway I thought I would give you a tour of our home. If you live or need to live in the North West suburbs of Chicago by all means come and look at her. Lake Zurich is a really sweet town that has lots of history and a big beautiful lake. Junk Chic Cottage is a special home that I have loved with all my heart the past 8 years.

Your home is gorgeous and I know it will sell very quickly. I will keep the prayers going that Terry finds a job soon.
ReplyDeleteKris, your home is so very pretty; you and Terry have done an amazing job throughout the years that you have been there. I don't know if I would be able to part with such coziness and charm, but the best of luck to Terry and selling your cottage!
ReplyDeletePoppy
You have made this such a beautiful escape, Kris! I wish you all the success in selling this home SOON and most of all, a solid job opportunity for your husband! God provides, never forget! Anita
ReplyDeleteKris, You know you and Terry have been in my prayers for a long time. I am still praying he lands a job near by your children. I know where ever you go you will whip another house into the beautiful home, that you have made this one. You are a true designer and Terry is your ever faithful assistant.( The man with the tools.) I think you home is what everyone would want...curb appeal and move in ready. Blessings to you and your sweet husband. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteYou and your hubby have done everything possible to make your home what it is today....gorgeous! I don't think you'll have any problem selling it, and once you do, you can set your sights on the future. I know good things will come your way and I hope it's soon. I'm sending a great big hug your way today, Kris.

Kris, your home is beautiful. I hate that you are having to do this but something wonderful is always around the corner. I so hope that your husband is able to find a job that is just right. Firefighters have that in their souls but I've heard that it is hard to get a job sometimes. I'm sending hugs to you too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Stacey. I feel deep in my heart something great is ahead for us. Just getting there is tough. Have a beautiful new week ahead and thank you for your kind wishes for us.
DeleteKris
I was so surprised to see that your home is on the market. We're in the process of selling and buying as well. It's a stressful but exciting time but I think worth it in the end. No doubt you will be making your new home as beautiful as this one is. Best wishes to you and your husband for a new job and new home. One day at a time, Kris. : ) xoxoxo

Kris, I can just imagine the contract now: The seller is asked to include all architectural details, all the furniture, and the expertise to make it all work! Good luck. I am sharing this on FB just in case someone here wants to move to Chicago! I am anticipating long posts on making over the new home.
ReplyDeleteI know this has been a tough decision, but one that you had to make. Your home is so full of charm and character, and I know that some lucky family will be happy to call it home. Praying that Terry finds that perfect job soon...good things will be coming soon.
ReplyDeleteKris your home is so beautiful and sparkles with your wonderful personality and talent. I know it will be hard to leave but I can just imagine what you will do in your new home. I've learned through trial and tribulation during our moves that home isn't about the house, it's about making it a home no matter where you end up. I hope that Terry finds the right job and that you will sell your home soon.

Your home is so beautiful.....I know it will sell very quickly! I will continue to pray for you and that Terry finds the perfect job and you find a new little cottage that you love just as much as this one :o)
ReplyDeleteGood luck!

Hi Kris,
ReplyDeleteYour house is so wonderful. It's a happy house and I know whoever it chooses for it's next family will have many lovely experiences there, just as you and Terry did. I agree with Donna...I'd be asking for tons of things to stay! Hang in there...the right thing will come along for Terry and y'all will be off on a new adventure together. Love you, T.
Prayers and blessings to you and hubby. Hoping the house will sell fast. I agree with everyone that your house will be desirable to any one that visits it. Be prepared to make concessions for the beauties you have added. I would want the room divider to stay and most of the chandies. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet prayers and blessings. I am willing to leave a lot of the chippy pieces that have made this house a home if the buyer loves them. They made me so happy and are part of this home so I am so happy to leave things if the next buyer wants them. Wish you needed a home in my area!!!

ha ha. We lived near Chicago in the mid 80's when my husband was on Marine Corp recruiters duty. The winters were a great shock to us as we are both Northern Californians and now live in the central valley. We have had 100+ temps in the last week. I would love to be your neighbor anywhere. I too have had recent trouble with being unemployed. Decided to pursue a career change which required education a little later in life. I received my RN license in June of 2011. Mid stream the economy took its fall. The consequences of that were the semester prior, mine and one after, the students had great difficulty in finding positions. Only about 20% of the hospitals in our area will hire new grads. To date only 60% of students from those three semesters within the central valley have found employment in their area of instruction. For me my efforts were compounded with a hip injury just 4 mos after graduation in May 2011, which went un repaired till August of 2014 with total hip replacement. Now I have sustained yet another injury. There is one advantage to my unemployment as it allows my husband who has many comorbidities to remain in his own home vs a skilled nursing facility in which the VA suggests he be each time he is hospitalized. My education allows me to be proactively involved in his care. That is my silver lining in an other stormy existence. Moral of the story....you and Terry have each other and your love to sustain you through any challenges that lay ahead of you. I know you will make the changes work for you. I hope when your house sells that you will be able to find a creative outlet that will sustain you till you are able to be settled again.
DeleteWow you have been through so much. Glad your training as a nurse is helping you to care for your hubby at home. That is the best value of life when some one needs full time care. Stay in California the winters here are brutal. We have had great challenges in our lives and I am praying and wishing for better days ahead. Thank you for sharing with me. Much appreciated.

Kris,
ReplyDeleteOver the past 8 years you and Terry have made your home into a beautiful cozy nest. I know for you and Terry this was an emotional daunting decision. But now it is time to once again feel another embrace of home in another city to love. The dynamic design couple of Kris and Terry will feather a new nest and share your beauty as you create another heart warming home. So whoever purchases your Chicagoland home will become the next caretakers, living in a home that holds energy of the love you shared remodeling over the years.
Love you girlfriend,
Vera
Your home is lovely and I hope everything works out for the best for you. That dining room is certainly large enough to be a combined dining and family room. We are just beginning to recover from hubby's job being outsourced and I hope Terry finds a position he likes soon.
ReplyDeleteYour home is the perfect reflection of you. I'm sure it will sell quickly, it's so lovely! May you and Terry find joy wherever your journey takes you next.
ReplyDeletexox
Hi Kris!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a surprise! Do homes in your area sell fast and quick ? If so no worry. Here is California when the poor economy hit home sales were at their all time low, yet homes now don't sit on the market long if well maintained like yours. One designer trick in selling fast and for top price is to de-clutter. It's part of my job as an interior designer and staging Model homes for the real estate market its to bare up those walls leaving one nice architectural piece to each room. One thing great is I noticed that you don't have a family wall of family FOTO'S or wedding FOTO'S hanging on your walls and this is a GOOD thing! You want to make your home not feel personal, and feel like the home of every potential buyer on the market.
You can get a head start on packing and patch touch up to nail holes....make your home feel like a model home, and the white walls is a plus it's a clean pallet for a buyer. Have you thought to take down the wall divider before its shown, this will open up the space and you can take that wall with you to your new home, using it again indoors or outdoors for the same effect.
I would set out the magazines you were featured in, and that's always fun history.
I just know heart of hearts the two of you are looking forward to where you land, and how you will be decorating it. Maybe Junk chic cottage will become Junk chic FarmHouse ? :)
I am sure it will sell soon, everything you touched in your home helped to turn this home to SOLD
The home tour was amazing.... You better not be surprised if some buyers want you to leave all the decor :)
Looking forward to your next home, and all it has to offer you.
Blessings on yours and Terry's new journey in life, thank you for taking us with you! :)
Xoxo

Your home is so beautiful. I don't think it will take you long to sell it and my prayers are with you that Hubby finds a job at the exact time you sell the house. Will look forward to seeing what you do to the new one.
ReplyDeleteYou have made your home so cozy and comfy and I know it must be hard to sell it, but how exciting to have a new adventure! Wishing you and the hubs the best!
ReplyDeleteOh no...I know how much you love your wonderful home, but you will make another one just as magical. Sending all the good juju to Terry!!
ReplyDeleteThis must be very tough for you, Kris. I hope everything goes well and the timing for finding a buyer for your lovely home and a new job for Terry will fit. Good luck to both of you!

Prayers for the perfect job for Terry, and home for you both, Kris. What a bittersweet post this must have been for you, sweet girl.

I can't imagine your home won't sell very quickly, Kris. I'm sure it's bittersweet at this point when you don't know for sure where you'll be moving, but it's the first step in making the kind of changes you're looking forward to. I truly wish you the best and look forward to news of Terry's new job and location!
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
I had a feeling this was coming. I know that Terry will find a job soon, and it will all work out. Hey the good news is that you have a whole new pallet to design :-) . I predict your beautiful home will sell very quickly, so get ready to plan B ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh Kris - I know how much you love your home. I also know it will sell so quickly. It is so darling. I know that you will make another home just as wonderful. And I guess, you'll just have to make me a new guest room to stay in where ever it is. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove ya and praying for big miracles to happen in your life.
Judy
Sad that you must leave a place you love, but think of all the future possibilities! That's why I love moving.
ReplyDeleteSaying prayers for you guys all the time and I just know that something wonderful is around the corner. Your home is just amazing and I can't imagine that it won't sell in a jiffy. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if you get people who wanted to buy it lock, stock and barrel...all of your gorgeous decor included. I guess, like others have said, the upside is a fabulous new opportunity to transform a whole new home into the next junk chic cottage of your dreams. :)
ReplyDeleteSure hope Terry will find hiself a job soon. My DH was unemployed some years ago and it was terrible. I Think it must be hard to leave this Beautiful home. But as you say, you can make it again, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening.
Love Elzie
A beautiful home and should sell quickly!!! Best wishes to you........xoxoxo

I pray a job will come along for Terry very soon. I know how much you love this house...I loved ours the same way...we were there for 40 years and so much work went into it...one of the hardest things was when the realtor told us to take out most of the decor....leave only a few pieces of furniture so that a buyer might be able to see their decorating instead of mine. Had to remove all personal pictures, extra furniture (so the rooms would appear larger)...and keeping things nice and neat all the time in case someone wanted to look at it. whew
ReplyDeleteThe first guy to look made us an offer that very day and I wanted to take it...Bill, on the other hand, wanted more money. It took another 5 months for the right buyer to come along and Bill did, indeed, get what he asked for.
You should have no trouble selling...keeping fingers crossed for you.....
Praying that all good things will come your way for you and your husband, Kris. One door closes, and another door opens.....
ReplyDeleteKris, I just have the best feeling that things will work out and it will be a perfect world! :) Your home is so lovely and you will miss it dearly. However, what an adventure you will have adapting another home to your beautiful style! I think your home will sell easily. Homes all on one level are highly sought after! Wishing you and Terry the best my friend!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Kris, you made this a beautiful home. Hope Terry finds a job very soon and good luck with the new home you find. I'm sure you will make it as pretty as this one.
ReplyDeleteI love your tour. Your home is beautiful. I hope that it will sell quickly. God has a plan for you and I hope that Terry gets the perfect job. I'm sure it has been a long seven months. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteOh Kris, someone is going to fall in love with you house, it is just so beautiful! You should be very proud of how stunning it looks. I hope everything will work out for you and your family.

Oh, my! You live in Pinterestland! If this house doesn't sell quickly I will be stunned! It's a dream house, Kris! You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteKris, I know you will have no trouble selling your home. It is so unique!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've seen Teri's office and even it is special.
I'll be praying it all works out-job and house sale.
Oh my Kris, you have to believe there is something better on the other end. Seriously hope he gets a job here, and you can take it off the market as your house so adorable, I simply want to buy your kitchen! Hugs and encouragement to both of you.

Hi Kris
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautiful, it will sell so quickly. Hopefully not too quickly and it will be the perfect timing for when Terry gets a new job. I have been praying for you and Terry every single day. Enjoy your day Kris
deezie
Kris your home is beautiful inside and out...I'm sure it will be a quick sale!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Martina it will sale fast, the rooms look like they are a nice size, outside of your home is beautiful! I'll be praying for you Kris!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful inside and out ~ so many areas and decor that I love. It really is amazing how large the bedrooms are and you do have a ton of storage space. The shower in the master suite is to die for! :) I do realize that uprooting and moving from this home and your family & friends may be a challenge, however, the only constant is change in our lives. I know you're going to be successful in selling as well as relocating. The perfect job for Terry is coming your way!
ReplyDeleteSending you hugs my friend ~

Your home is gorgeous! I can't imagine it will sit on the market long! Hope that your husband finds the perfect job soon! :) ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteBlessings my friend. Your home is beautiful! I know it will sell. Prayers for you. This is hard, believe me. We are living it. Just think how fun it will be for you to start with a clean slate for pulling all your whites together again, but at the same time, it's not easy. BTW, I love the office for your Mr.
ReplyDeleteHey Kris, this totally took me by surprise, especially with that fabulous new armoire going in. I know where you are, because I lived this the last 2 years. I know God has a good plan for you guys, and I'l be praying that you have clear direction and an easy path. xoxo
ReplyDeleteSending Hugs and Prayers! Cindy xoxo
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Terry in his job hunt! You have a beautiful home, and anyone would be lucky to have it. Hope that the timing works out just as you want it to.
ReplyDeleteKris, one thing I have learned in lots of moving and renovations, is that what you've accomplished once, can be accomplished a second, third and fourth time. Someone is going to fall in love with your sweet home, and you'll have the adventure of starting over, which I've always found the most fun of all. I hope that your husband finds the job he needs soon. Love, Mimi xxx
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful! I would think you would have no problem selling it. Good luck with your relocation. If you ever want to sell the arched window in your living room I would love to buy it. I have been looking for one for a long time, but to no avail. Thank you for your inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks Teah I will keep that in mind if I cannot take that window with me. I hope so I love it. Do you live in my area to come and pick it up. I would hate to try to mail it with the glass.
DeleteKris
It's looking beautiful. I pray he finds something soon.xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteKris,
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best with your house sale and most of all with Terry finding the perfect job. Your home is so charming and I am sure it will sell fast (this is coming from a realtors wife).
Blessings,
Linda
So sad that you have to leave your beautiful home but it will sell quickly with it's beautiful floors, open floor plan and neutral palette (been watching a lot of HGTV lately!) It is exciting though to be going on a new adventure and to have a blank canvas in another house to beautify. I hope it all works out perfectly and the timing is right on!
ReplyDeleteSending you positive thoughts from up North, Kris. It's truly a beautiful and loved home. How exciting for the next journey.
ReplyDeleteKris, having stayed at your beautiful home, I can attest that it is even more lovely in person! Everywhere you look there is SO much character (and of course the deck outside is stunning!) Someone will be so blessed to make this their home! You know I'm always praying for you guys...good things are ahead!! xo
ReplyDeleteSusan
It will sell fast as it has so much charm! It is hard to move and not know what is going to happen. When my husband died 2 years ago I had to make sudden changes in my life as there was no money left and no way I could keep the house. I had to get rid of so much! Praying for you all.
ReplyDeleteOh Kris it has got to be tough putting your beautiful home on the market! I know you've put your heart into your home! I am praying that the perfect job for Terry comes through soon! I know this season has been tough, but I am absolutely certain that God will make beauty from the ashes. I pray all goes smoothly with this transition and I am sending you big HUGS!!
ReplyDeleteYour home is so stunning, so magazine-worthy in each and every space, that I think it's going to sell quickly. I know you hate to leave your beloved home. I did too four years ago. But life, it just does that to us sometimes.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I hope the right person comes along soon for your house! I bet you'll get a lot of showings. Hopefully, this situation with Terry will be over with soon. I know that it has been going on so long. It would be nice to have this behind you by the time the holidays get here.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best and that the timing for your husband's job and the sale of your home line up perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYour home is so charming, I am sure it will sell quickly. Sending best wishes for a job for your husband and a quick home sale.
ReplyDeleteYou home is absolutely gorgeous, my friend. It's going to show so well. I can't imagine how it won't sell quickly. Everything's been done. . .move in ready and one of a kind. Prayers going up for Terry's job situation and that the perfect buyer appears on the scene. Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteAs I told you the other day, I am thinking "every cloud has a silver lining" thoughts and know that you and Terry will end up in a great town with a darling home for both of you to work your magic.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to take that office divider wall with you when you move?
It's always difficult to leave the home we've made. You've done such a magnificent job of making this truly yours and truly unique but keep the thought that now you have a chance to do it again! Please say you aren't going to leave those incredible cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom? Hope you saved the originals to put back up. And no matter when it happens, Terry's new job will be a good move. Love and best wishes for you both. 😊
ReplyDeleteKris, your home is so beautiful, warm and inviting. I have no doubt that you will sell it soon and also, no doubt that you will find another and make it just as beautiful. Do you have to leave all your pretty chandys for the new owners?.Sigh, but you will find others if you do. Hope and good wishes for Terry to get another job soon so you will know where you will be settling. It must be a very hard decision, but sometimes we come out so much better on the other end..xxo Judy
ReplyDeleteHello Kris,
ReplyDeleteYour home is lovely. I have been praying for you and Terry. I will add the sale of your home to my prayers.
Sending you a BIG HUG!
Kris, your home is gorgeous and you guys have put so much love and work into this home. I do know this was a difficult decision for you and I pray that the right person will come along...someone who will love your home just the way it is and continue to add to the charm you've created! Hope you are feeling better! Hugs to you!!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what a difficult decision this was for you, I know it would be for me since we do love our homes so. When we thought
ReplyDeleteselling ours my biggest concern was that the woman of the house felt the same way I did about her. I pray that she will you homes sells at the same time Terry finds a new job. The new chapter starts soon.
Oh Kris...........this must be so hard - all that work and love you've put into that home - but the upside is it's going to sell in the blink of an eye - you'll see - it's simply irresistable with all it's gorgeous charm
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever realized just how large it was before !
xox
Kris, I know it will be hard to leave your humble abode. I hope hubby gets a job soon so y'all can move on to the next chapter.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about it being hard to leave a home you love so much. I was drooling as I looked over all of your gorgeous rooms! I hope things work out ok for Terry and his new job, and that you find a new home you can love as much (or more!) than your current one. Moving on is SO hard! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
Well, call me shocked. I thought for sure you would live there forever, because you've made your home so very you... beautiful, and cozy but fresh and also elegant. I know what that's like though and I'm so sorry you need to sell, but the funny thing is it always ends up better than you thought. Leaving my last house was awful, but I ended up just where I needed to be. There's a plan for everyone or at least I think so. I wish you all the luck in the world with the sale and the search for a new home that you can make your own :)

Hi Kris! Your home shows beautifully! It always does! I loved taking a tour again, seeing what has changed since last time and re-admiring all of your creative touches! I say, whatever the buyers don't want to keep goes into the truck! Can you imagine movers as you tell them to take chippy railings and old windows and doors? LOL! I am sure that once the word gets out on your house, it will get a lot of attention! You know I've got you and Terry in my thoughts and prayers and hope that something pans out very soon! Hang in there! Hugs, Leena

Oh Kris, your home is beautiful and no doubt will always hold a special place in your heart. I'm sure you will love decorating your new home just as much. You have been blessed with an amazing and supportive husband and I know he will find his dream job soon, and you a new dream house. Take care and I'll be thinking of you! xxx Julie
ReplyDeleteEvery room every detail, is perfect. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to leave all this loveliness, but life has a way of throwing a few curveballs our way. I don't know the backstory, but I'm hopeful and optimistic the timing will work out for you both. We had a similar situation and ended up needing to rent for a year, but in the end it was fine.
ReplyDeleteWherever you go, you'll make it your own oasis.
I know it is a bittersweet decision, Kris! I hope that things start coming together for you soon...and the house sells to just the right person! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis home is just gorgeous and I know it is hard to let it go after all the work you have put in to decorating it but this is the beginning of something new and exciting. I know that wherever you land you have the talent to make it a home!!
ReplyDeleteKris....your home is beautiful and I know in my heart things happen for a reason and Terry will land a great job and you will have another beautiful home to decorate!!!....You two are always in my thoughts and prayers!
ReplyDeletebeautiful.. lovely photos of a home for a queen...Sounds like our husbands have something in common -- needing a job! Hoping for the very best job to come to your sweetheart... and the selling of your home comes together all at the same time!! - wink.

ReplyDeleteYou have the most beautiful room and you decorated it with love. I know you will find the perfect place and do the same with it. I pray that your husband finds the perfect job for him. Good luck with everything and all the best.

Wherever you live, will be made just as gorgeous. Whoever buys your cottage will be blessed. Love to you and all the best going forward. Prayers sent your way. Hugs, cm
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see your beautiful home all at once! So loveky and spacious and so well loved. I so enjoy your talent! Seven months is a long time. My heart goes out to you. I have walked too many miles in your shoes and know what a toll all the waiting takes. We are praying with you., and wishing you all the best in the sale of your beloved home.
ReplyDeleteAwe, I'm so sad that this beautiful home you have loved your way through one room at a time is on the market. I am keeping my finger's and toes crossed that Terry is offered one of the positions he is in the running for. I know without a doubt your gorgeous home will sell quickly. As sad as it will be to bid farewell to your lovely home you so generously shared with us, I look forward to following your new journey and re-love of your next home.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Marie
I have no doubt what so ever your home is going to sell fast Kris. It is impeccable. Don't be surprised if the people ask for a lot of your furnishings too. That happened to us in Florida and we wound up selling a lot of it with the home. It was worth it. Best of luck to Terry on the ongoing job search.
ReplyDeleteYour home is absolutely amazing. I am sure that there will be plenty of people wanting your home and I don't blame them, I would be first in the door if I was over there! My hubby is very jealous of Terry's office especially all the fire touches!! I do hope he finds something suitable soon xx
