Happy New Week.
Even with us getting frost this week end some of the flowers are really trying to stay on.
I did lose my sweet potato vines to the frost and cold.
|
It was a sad good bye to these sweet vines. |
I also took down the Cottage Nest flower box for the winter.
|
I moved this fall spray over the brick where the cottage nest flower box was hanging on the brick. |
|
I added a Harvest Blessings sign to my wreath. |
|
I got these $10 mums at Walmart to add to the white urns to keep some real flowers going for fall. They replaced the sweet potato vines I lost to the frost.
|
|
My winter housing for the birds is ready to welcome in a new family for the long winter's stay. |
|
It makes for a nice winter shelter for the birds that stay with us here in Illinois for the winter months. Hey if I were a bird and could fly I would be sooooo heading south and not staying here!!! Just sayin!!! The ones that brave the winters need shelter too. So this little house is there for them. |
|
Angel bird bath got a touch of fall. |
|
Even the Terry's fire truck out by the For Sale sign got some fall decor too.
|
|
These summer flowers made it through the first frost so I am letting them stay for a while. Too pretty to pull out just yet. |
|
These Ivy Geraniums just make me smile. They love the heat and dryness of summer and now that we had our first frost and chilly temps they want to hang on!!!! Amazing display of color still. They are fighting so hard not to leave I just could not bring myself to get rid of them. |
|
The deck boxes want to hang on. Still with blooms. |
|
My knock out roses still have lots of unopened blooms. They are loving the sun filled days. |
|
Here at Junk Chic Cottage we still have a few summer hold overs to mix with fall. I am enjoying that these plants are hearty and just do not want to let go. We here in Illinois all know what is coming, the S word!!! ughhh!!! so as long as these beauties want to hang on I am more than happy to continue watering and caring for them.
Hope you are having a mild fall where you are. The leaves are changing here in the last week. Soooo pretty. Have a great rest of the week and be sure to come back for Spotlight on Saturday. I have a great blogger for you to get to know better. Kris :) |
Wow, Kris, your garden flowers look really amazing. I have noticed how, when the temps drop, the flowers seem to push really hard to hang in there. I've let my containers go without watering the last week, so they're getting droopy, but still no frost yet (although temps did drop below freezing, we're sort of in a micro climate right beside the river). Your home still looks very inviting, and I love the fire truck and porch decor especially.
ReplyDeleteRita
Good Morning Kris. Love your transitional porch for fall. The yellow looks so beautiful with your door and the brick. The sign you added to your wreath is charming. No frost here yet but the temps are dropping at night and in the early mornings. The flowers seem to be enjoying the cooler days and giving a nice show for fall. Terry's fire truck looks adorable filled with a fall display. Enjoy the season and hope your home showings are going well. Have a great week. xo
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Your mums are so perfect next to the door. They say, come on in and make yourself at home!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so pretty. I love the fire truck!
ReplyDeleteWell Kris you might not want to come south, or at least to the Eastern Coast of NC and SC because it's COLD!!! Unusual to be in the 30's in the mornings and 60's during the day. My kitties are trying to find warm spots under the blankets!
ReplyDeleteI love your front porch decorated for Fall. So pretty. All of your flowers seem to be holding on and I love the little wagon in the yard.
Have a wonderful week.
hugs
Sissie
You always make your porch look so inviting and the mums are perfect.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised to see how many of your flowers are still hanging on....they look so pretty! Love the fall wreath on the front door and the little fire truck is just soooooo cute!!!!
ReplyDelete~Des
Enjoy those summer plants as long as you can...they are all so very pretty. LOVE your darling fire truck.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Hello Kris,
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have changed this up for fall. I really love the little fire truck and the mums and wreath are just pretty.
It is so cold here! I hope you have a wonderful week.
Julie xo
I love your decoration of the front door. It warmly invites you to get in. Good job!♡ greetings from Italy, Magda
ReplyDeleteKris, I am throwing out my potato vine today...it has turned black from the cold nights. I must say your flowers seem to be very hardy still pretty too. I love Terry little fire truck all decked out. Today is another sunny day but chilly this morning...too windy for my liking. Blessings to you and Terry. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteMy potato vines couldn't survive the frost either! Mums, zinnias and cosmos hanging on though. I love that fire truck! It's beautiful weather this week and Mr. C and I are headed out again this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour yard still looks as pretty as ever, Kris. Love all the Fall pieces you've added to keep it looking so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThe wind here has been awful. We had another lightening storm last night....crazy!

You have more flowers blooming than me. I just have pops of color here and there in the garden.
ReplyDeleteWe've had some amazing fall weather here in NE Oregon, and my summer flowers are still in bloom. It's been chilly and rainy the past two days. We're expecting lows around 25 degrees this week, so I'm sure I'll be pulling up the annuals soon. It's okay, though, they've had a great run and brought so much pleasure. Your flower hold outs are lovely. I love, love, love your fall decorations, Kris. Terry's fire truck is uber cool! Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteHello sweet Kris your changes to Fall at the door look inviting and pretty. We are getting several warm days this week in Philadelphia that will hit the mid 70's so I'll go out and trim and winterize. But I can't say a frost would upset me because it will end this ragweed allergy I have been experiencing. This weekend John and I will enjoy a drive in the country in our vintage Citroën and stopping in on a pumpkin farm and an apple orchard. I'm hoping I can find detached stems for next year's velvet pumpkins I make and of course adding to our pumpkins with a few Grey French. I love how the Grey and Orange look together. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Vera
So much color still at your house. It's beautiful, Kris. Here, the leaves have fallen after a gorgeous autumn display and mornings are frosty.
ReplyDeleteLove Terry's fire truck! :)
Have a great day today.

ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that fall has come to the cottage, Kris. Everything looks great! I'm sad about the sweet potato vine- I always hate to lose that vibrant happy green. You have done a great job here...even the brick is enhanced by your decor! It's still warm here but nice in the evenings. I might be inspired to do my porches now w/o getting a sunburn! xo, T.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...like always! My sweet potato vines are gone now too. I need to go out and plop some pumpkins in their places :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kris! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love your fall front door display, it says fall but it also is still bright and cheery. Beautiful!
I love the little bird house. We have a few out each year for the winter too, there are birds nesting in mine already.
I love that little fire truck by your for sale sign, that is so cute!
The last of our summer flowers bit the biscuit during that cold snap...but I had all kinds of tropical ones out this summer so they couldn't take that deep cold that we got.
I wouldn't be able to take out the flowers that you have left either, they are still blooming and beautiful. I love the ivy geraniums, I have never seen those before (added to my list for next year!).
Have a wonderful rest of your week! :)
Kimberley
All of your flowers still look so beautiful, even with having to change out a few things! We had our first frost over the weekend also...the roses and one lonely hydrangea are hanging on! :-) Have a wonderful day sweet friend! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are still very pretty. I love how you added the mums by the door. I should do that. It's been a bit cooler here, I'm loving it! Hoping all is well with you guys. I've been so busy lately. We need to catch up :-)
ReplyDeleteYour flowers still look amazing! I need to get out and purchase a few fall things. My porch is bare :-/ Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Kris! Even after frost, your flowers are so pretty. Not too much flowering here...except geraniums and they always seem to go forever.
ReplyDeleteI love the Harvest Blessings sign you added! Such a pretty welcome! Oh, how I wish we had a first frost coming. We usually don't even have "A" frost at all. Lol! I envy people that actually get to experience different seasons. I think it's so sweet of you to care for the birds too. I'm sure they appreciate having a nice place to live during the winter months. :)
ReplyDeleteKris, That looks so nice all Fallified! I sure did love that sweet potato vine though and know you hated to lose it. Your front looks wonderful...well-your house's front looks wonderful, that is. lol I love Terry's little firetruck-you have it all dolled up for Fall, too. We had not had a frost here yet. Just crazy because a lot of times we have had really hard freezes by now. Still loving those yellow boots and they look good with the yellow in the mums and the wreath.
ReplyDeleteNow- fingers crossed that you get some buyers in there to see how cute it all looks. xo Diana
Love the fire dept. car!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they are hanging on. It's sad to see Sweet Potato Vine succumb to the frost. Love your yellow accents on the front porch.
ReplyDeleteYou would think you lived in the south with all of your pretty flowers still blooming! Your house looks so pretty with your yellow flowers by the front door.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks so pretty with all the Fall changes that you have made. My friend was there this past weekend and he took some beautiful pictures of the mums along Michigan Avenue - they were stunning. I love Chicago and would love to go back for a long weekend. In fact my son was born at St. Joseph's Hospital on Chicago Heights many many years ago. When that area was nice, I understand now it
ReplyDeleteisn't.
Enjoy your week and hope that you and Terry get good news soon..
Hugs to you,
Mary
Hello,
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. We had our first kill frost over the weekend too. We sure enjoyed our summer blooms for along time this Autumn.
Carla
So pretty Kris! I always end up throwing out perfectly good flowers in the fall that sometimes look better now than in the summer. Ugh. Lol.
ReplyDeletelovely changes -- you have such the touch to make things look so beautiful.. great ideas too!
ReplyDeleteHugs
The front entry looks autumnal. Very pretty! Love the fire truck! xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteLove how fall looks so bright and welcoming here with you. Exposing the beauty of your richer tones is a sure fall win. Love the used brick feel, I have a thing for brick these days, your brick work looks warm and inviting.
ReplyDeleteSee you and all you inspire my friend.
Xx
Dore
Good morning Kris! I LOVE that fire truck with the pumpkins. Absolutely perfect. Things are slowly changing but they are so beautiful. Happy day! Anita
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Kris
ReplyDeleteLove that your flowers are still with you and making everything so pretty. That fire truck is adorable. Your fall decorating is so pretty Kris* Fall is such a beautiful time of year, enjoy it
deezie
Everything looks beautiful, Kris, but I have to admit the fall filled firetruck is my absolute favorite. So charming...not to mention, it's red! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so warm and inviting Kris! I do not understand why your warm, inviting, pride of ownership home has not sold yet...baffles me. It's waiting for just the right buyer who can see all the love that was given to this home and "gets it" and will continue to give the same love once the keys are handed over to them.
ReplyDeleteHugs from Canada
Oh Kris, I lost all my coleus.... dang wind. Great Transition though...at least it is nice now. We are buried in leaves....and are wearing the blower out ...just trying to get to the door. Thanks for the share, Sandi
ReplyDeleteSo much fun, I love Fall and we are going to go out for the day, too. Great share, unfortunately I have nothing to post, because this has been a week of doing...and not posting, LOL. Thanks for hosting, will be here next week, Sandi
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetie, I think that your comment list has grown even longer since you put your home up for sale. What wonderful supporters you have. You are delights are just that, so beautiful. Can't help but be in love with the firetruck all decked out for Fall and you entrance is just lovely I have yellow mums at my door to. Love the brightness for Fall. Hang in there! Hugs, Jo
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post! I'd say you are ready for FALL saying, "bring it on!" Lovely job as usual.
Have a terrific day.
Kathleen
Your front porch is ready for autumn. I love everything especially the fire truck and the bird house.

Very pretty Kris, it's been cool here except for today and tomorrow. I enjoy it cool and crisp. Hope the showings are going well
ReplyDeleteCindy
Gorgeous as always, Kris! No matter what time of year it is! Sorry to see the potato vine go - they are so pretty and such great growers! I think that sweet little white pumpkins make a wonderful substitute!Even with your house on the market, I think you can get away with putting our fall decorations and vent those creative juices! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things to comment on I don't know where to begin, but since I have to start somewhere how about that cute little truck? And that mailbox? Wow!
ReplyDeleteSweet potato vines never last once the weather get chilly. I had them this year and they looked fabulous, but the second it gets cold they go kaput. :/
Looks like you're still getting your creative on and I don't care what the realtor says, it's a 'good thing'.
impressed that your flowers are still looking amazing-love the fire truck!
ReplyDeleteHope you and your Husband are doing well and keeping your Spirits up.
ReplyDeleteWe went through exactly what you are going through Job and Selling our Home.
We retired early and Downsized to a little Cottage on a Lake and we are happier than ever.
I am keeping you both in my prayers for strength to get through this being in Limbo phase.
Move to Traverse City Michigan iit is Paradise here. 😌
Your front entrance looks so pretty, Kris! Even with the loss of those gorgeous sweet potato vines. : ) Love that swag you hung up there. Our Fall leaves are at peak viewing this week. Quite a few are falling off now, too, since we haven't had rain lately. And, we are having one last hurrah with temps about 75 today. There's no humidity so it feels great!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks amazing, Kris..so sorry you lost that beautiful sweet potato vine...we just moved all our flowers and plants to the new little green house and it looks amazing in there...post coming soon.
ReplyDeletexo
We are Finally enjoying cooler weather here in Phoenix. I have the doors open and the AC has been off for 3 days! It's suppose to be in the 90's again over the weekend, so I'll be turning the AC back on, but it has been nice to just breath in the fresh air. Love your flowers that are hanging on, they just don't want winter to arrive, I'm sure! You and Terry are in my prayers! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't been that cold here yet--I haven't even turned on the heat yet! But they are saying we might have a little frost tonight. Your posts are always beautiful!
ReplyDeleteKris, all your pretty flowers are hanging on tight. They don't want to leave their pretty cottage just yet either. Nights are getting colder now. We have had the stoves on already..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and so much inspiration! The little fire truck is so cute :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, take care...
Titti
The fire truck is adorable...super cute!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend...

Nice Greetings,
Christine
Beautiful flowers and plants. I love all the colors and shades. Sorry about the sweet potato vines...hope you got some sweet potatoes out of it
ReplyDeleteKris, we've had several heavy frost here so no flowers are left unless they were covered. I adore the fire truck all decorated. My son just joined the fire department in our village. Yesterday was his first official day, and today was his first call. Such a scary thing for a Mom.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I haven't been around...been a bit crazy around here. Your flowers are just gorgeous! I am so glad to know about the ivy geranium...can't believe I didn't know that. My balcony gets the afternoon sun and it's so difficult to keep things going. You obviously have a green thumb my friend!
ReplyDeleteWe had almost 6" of rain from last night to noon today...and more coming. We need it desperately but just not all at once. :) I'm so concerned about the Hurricane approaching Mexico. So, so many people will be affected by it. A friend of mine has a vacation rental property there in Puerto Vallarta and her daughter is there! Frightening ~
Enjoy your weekend although I'll "see" you tomorrow!
xoxo

Hi Kris, it all looks just lovely! We were in New England for a week and I decided not to have anyone water my pots and just let them be through for the season. I'll be darned if I didn't return to find them beautiful and still thriving. In fact the Bacopa is loving the cooler temps. Loaded with white blooms. Sweet potato vines are still pretty, but one freeze and they'll be goners! Love Terry's fire truck all decked out for the season! I planted to yellow mums in my urns as well. One of my trailers was still very pretty so I left them in with them. I just picked up a Somerset magazine today. Looking forward to sitting down and reading it tonight!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
The front porch is so very beautiful Kris...I bet those who walk up to the porch are blown away with the beauty and creativity of the porch and the surrounding areas...love what you did to Terry's truck...so cute!!!...wish they would let us do things like that in our neighborhood...
