New Addition Coming

Hi Everyone.  Terry and I are getting excited to be closing on our new home in about a month we are also excited to be adding a new addition to our family.

As a lot of you know we lost our sweet Libby about 3 weeks ago.  We have had two basset hounds during our 35 years of married life.  Libby being our last sweet girl.  Libby was was 14 and gave us such love.  We lost her suddenly to a tumor on her spleen bleeding out.  A tumor we did not know she had.  So that was a shock and such loss for us.

By a secret angel we learned of a basset hound in Cincinnati Ohio that was in need of a new home.  So they sent me the pictures and we fell deeply in love.  We filled out the adoption paper work and they called us today and told us we were picked to give this guy a new forever home.

He is 7 years old so not a puppy and is crate trained and needs a little work on the housebreaking.  The people that owned him left him tethered outdoors 24/7 so he needs to learn how to go potty outside.  The Foster angels that have him said he is getting really good at going outside.  That we will probably have to work on with him.

So we have lots of exciting things happening.  New member of our family and also a new home.

We close on the new home the middle of April and then we agreed to give the sellers up to 30 days to move out after closing.  So it may be the middle of May before we are in the new home.  This guy is with other dogs in the Foster home so I think he will get along fine with my daughters dogs where we are staying.

I have always had puppies from breeders so this is the first time we will be adopting an adult dog.  I hope with lots of love this goofy guy will fit right in with us.  The foster family said he is a big love and a very quiet dog which most basset hounds are.

So this Saturday we will be taking a road trip from Chicago to Cincinnati to pick this guy up.

I cannot wait to meet him and bring him home.  They named him Roscoe and they do not know his real name.  We are thinking of changing his name.  What do you think?  Any suggestions?  Maybe Wally, Fred!!!!!!

Have a great rest of the week.
Kris

  8. I think it is wonderful that you are getting a older dog. one that is rescued. I have not been disappointed with my two babies. they are the best. You may want to wait and meet your new doggie before you name him. Sometimes they have a different personality and the name should fit that. I am sure you will pick the right one.

I am so happy that your moving into your home soon and that you have a new baby.

Sending lots of hugs your way and can hardly wait to see the magic you work on your new home.

  18. Kris feeling happiness and joy for you and Terry. I'd keep his name, after all he's been Roscoe for 7 years. I am a firm believer in adoption and John and I had adopted Natasha (years ago) as an adult. We were told by the shelters administrator that when a adult pet gets adopted and goes to their now/forever home they take on the personality and behavior they feel will please you and adapt quickly to learning. In our case this was true. Kris looking at your new boy brings a smile, he sure has a big personality looking at him!

  28. OH KRIS!!!!!!!! Congratulations! I LOVE FRED. Easy, monosyllabic, cute as can be. What a dude! I can remember our neighbor's basset: WILSON. He too had a tumor, and that dog gave everyone a smile. You have some great things coming down the pike! In May then, I am expecting to see some chippy white beauty emerge from your genius!

Love and hugs to you! Anita

  38. Such good news. Bless you for adopting a older dog. I'm sure that you are making Libby smile and so happy that you have saved Rosco. I have twin daughters that both run no kill shelters so we are always so happy to here that one more dog or cat will be getting a new loving forever home.

  39. God Bless your daughters for helping these beautiful pets out. I am excited to be giving this little guy a new home. I just cannot believe how people can be so mean and abusive to these wonderful little angels. I cannot even imagine this little guy being tethered outdoors 24/7. He will have lots of comfy spots in my home to rest on. No tethers in his future anymore.
Thanks for coming by to wish us luck.

  41. He is adorable...look at that face! I'm so happy that you guys will have a sweet boy to love on and I'm thrilled that you went thru a rescue to get him. As far as a name, I think he looks like a Fred but Roscoe fits him, too. Our dogs have so many names but each one has come from some silly personality trait or thing that they do. Jack is Jack Henry, JackJack, Jackito, and Mr. Wiggles. Bruce is BooBoo, Big Boy or just The Boo. Sophie's name is Sophia Lucia Ricardo (Yes, Lucy Ricardo!) so she gets called SoSo, LuLu, or Boss Lady. It'll come to you! Whatever you call him, he will adore you and Terry and have a long happy life with you in your new home. I'm sure Libby would approve of this handsome addition to the family. Or maybe not! hahaha
    So happy for you! xoxo

  43. The minute you mentioned Roscoe I instantly thought of Roscoe P. Coltrane, from the Dukes and Hazard TV show. I believe his dog in the show was named "Flash". But I wish more people would turn to adopting older dogs when they decide to bring a dog into their homes. We adopted the neighbor's dog and could not have been happier. We had a wonderful 13 years with our "Rascal" and he made a great companion dog for my Dad. Rascal was 4 when we adopted him or maybe I should say he adopted us. But how about changing Roscoe's name to Cincinnati to honor where he came from or maybe Chicago to honor where he is moving to. Enjoy your new house and your new family member and also your grandchild to be. Margaret

    1. That was my immediate thought too. You see, my brother has always wanted a basset hound or beagle and wanted to name it Roscoe or Flash. He's now an adult, single, and his work schedule really isn't good for having a dog, so he can't have one. Even though he doesn't even live in the same state as our parents, for years, he's begged them to get a beagle or basset hound for him to have when he comes home.

They had no idea why he wanted this until I reminded them we were 80's kids from the South and BIG TIME Dukes of Hazard fans back in the day. We even gave up Halloween one year when it fell on the night of the show. We trick or treated for an hour, then rushed home because we couldn't miss the show for even a week.

I had to explain to our parents Roscoe had that dog named Flash, so my brother has wanted a basset hound or beagle since 1985.

Oh on a side note, my mother recently got a new dog after hers passed away. She got herself a Yorkie, so my brother is still wanting for "his" dog but at least he really likes this one.

I know Libby will be thrilled for you all

I always kept the name of my adopted dogs ,my adopted cat I named because no body knew his name

I am sooooo HAPPY for you and your husband and Roscoe ,if he hasn't had that name long he will adjust to his new name

can't wait to see pictures and I sure hope all the dogs get along for a short time anyway

  50. Wow, he's a fine guy for sure. Roscoe is a great name for a dog--and wouldn't confuse him again. We have had 4 adopted dogs and 2 adopted cats in the past and they were all super loving---and glad to have a home. They do come with a set personality though...so you have to let them be who they are.
Great to hear Roscoe found a 'forever' home. Sandi

  66. It must be hard for a dog to answer to name changes after seven years. The one name he has been called consistently is Boy. At first, I was thinking that you could call him Our Boy because he is your boy, but since his second name started with an R, you could call him R-Boy. Like someone else said, the important thing is that you drove a long way to rescue him and take him into your home and for that he is one lucky boy.

  68. Congratulations! I think that the best way to honor the passing of a beloved pet, is to give a home to another in need! Our cockers from rescue were adults too, but they quickly settled in with us and our other dog. I am sure that "Fred" or whatever you name him, will be a happy family member and I know he will be spoiled and loved just the way he deserves to be! I hope that you get into your new home soon! So excited to see pics and hear all about your design plans! Love, Leena
