Up Date on Kitchen!!!!

Thanks for all your comments and great input on the dilemma in my kitchen with the french cabinet vs. open shelves.

I think with only being in the house for a month and doing so much all at one time has made my decor ju ju fade some!!!

I was going to live with it for awhile but if you know me as many of you do, you know the dust does not settle when I am working on a project!

So with that said the French Bakery Cabinet below came down.

The cabinet is down and the cabinet over the refrigerator is going to get a little make over too.  Open shelves will be heading up onto the wall for a more open feel.  This is a long and narrow kitchen.   The cabinet just made the kitchen feel choppy and closed in.  The counters will be open again for more counter space too.

The pretty bakery cabinet will be transformed and rebuilt into a cabinet above the refrigerator.  Terry has some good ideas on how to do that and the cabinet will be functional too.

So stay tuned to the never ending Kitchen re do!!!! I feel good about taking the cabinet down and putting up open shelves.

The shelves will give the kitchen a more open feel and it will not be competing with the chippy window above the sink.
Hopefully we will have this done soon to give you a look.

Thank you again for all your wonderful comments and suggestions.  In the end I have to live with this kitchen and I hope to have it making me smile soon.

Hugs,
Kris

  1. I like the idea of putting your bakers cabinet above the refrigerator. Open shelves above your counter will definitely give your kitchen a more airy feel. I'm sure you'll be much happier with the new arrangement, Kris.

  6. I would have definitely taken the cabinet down and put up shelves!! LOL The cabinet will be gorgeous above the fridge. You are so lucky to have a handy man for a husband. I sure do miss mine.

  7. I think shelves would look great! I wish I had the patience to keep things neat for open shelves. Can't wait to see!

  8. EXCELLENT CHOICE! I think you are really going to love the open shelving. I have a French étagère from France upon which I have my collection of copper pots. Instead of cabinets, we have this piece in the butler's pantry and it gives such a great feel. Terry is amazing, like most of our husbands. He really knows how to take your vision and make it REAL!!!!!!

Have a sensational day dearest Kris!

  10. It is beautiful! It looks so clean and fresh! My youngest son just purchased an older home with beautiful molding (painted dark brown) and orange walls (ughh)in the kitchen and dining room. The cabinets are dark and the entire kitchen is depressing. I am planning to help him with a re-do and I am drawing inspiration from your update!

  21. I'm so glad you got your mojo back! You've been doing soooooo much it's no wonder you're second guessing yourself, but no matter what you decide, in the end it will be both beautiful and functional.

  22. Good choice! I was hoping you would take it down and do the open shelving. I knew you were clever enough to figure that out...you've done so much in such a short period of time...if I had done all that, my brain would be on overload and nonfunctional. ha! Terry is a prince among men... Eagerly anticipating the next episode of the kitchen saga...

  23. I didn't respond to your "plea" for input on the cabinet - you already had a multitude. But I agree with your decision wholeheartedly. With all your gorgeous pieces, it was a bit of an overdose to take in all at once. The eye would be swimming/drowning in a pool of too many "pretty's" in large doses. I think the new placements will allow the eye to pause and drink in the wonder of your impeccable taste without "overeating". I knew that you would figure it out. Can't wait to see the new placements. (You are so lucky to have a handyman husband. It also sounds as if he is a true life's partner, always willing to team up.)

  26. Kris there is NO way you could ever lose your decor ju ju lol. But I'm happy you took the cabinet down and are putting up open shelves....because I want to COPY how you decorate your open shelving hahahahaha!!! I have open shelves on two walls of my kitchen and I KNOW I have lost my decor ju ju because I'm at a complete loss at how to decorate them UGH!!! So hurry up woman and get those shelves done! Can't wait to see what Terry has in store for the cabinet above the frig!

  27. I didn't get a chance to comment on the first post regarding this situation, but I am happy to read you have made the decision to take down the French Baker Cabinet and install the open shelves. That was going to be my vote, so I am very excited to see final result of this decision ! You have a beautiful kitchen!

  28. Kris, I've not been paying attention so I don't know what went before, but I am going back to look. I think that little french bakery cabinet is so pretty but no matter what you put in its place, it will be magnificent..Happy Thursday..Judy

  30. One things for sure. . .it will be fabulous! I really do love my open shelves in our basement kitchen. I thought they would get dusty fast and require a lot of cleaning, but not so.

  32. Dearest Kris, HELLO! Your presence in my garden is very special my friend. I have many other photos I'd like to take of different angles of my garden AND home, and I hope I can do that in the next week or two!

I hope your kitchen is continually evolving and I can't wait to see what you do next! HUGS!

  33. Excellent choice! Anything you do is going to be fabulous, but I really like the idea of some open shelving.

  34. Oh, Kris, how awesome! You are blessed to have a Mr. who can do so much. We basically have to find already-made pieces which cost an arm and a leg. I can paint and distress but how to get on the wall without pulling the whole wall down is a problem. Your place is lovely.

  35. Can't wait to see how it looks with the open shelving!

  36. Hahahaha- I LOVE that Terry! He can do anything--you don't realize how great that is until you have a husband (that was RAISED in the lumber business) that can't pound a nail in straight--and injures himself doing so. Kitchen does look a lot more open with the cabinet down. I think you will like the open shelving. Have a great Sunday.

  37. Sorry Kris, I have missed so many of your recent posts! I just haven't seemed to be able to get back in the swing! Can't wait until it cools off around here, maybe I will feel more energetic! In the next days I'll have to check out your renovations from the past month or so! You kitchen will be wonderful not matter what you decide to do, because your Always turn things into works of art! And having Terry around doesn't hurt either!! Rock on Grammy! Blessings, Cindy xo

  38. I just found your blog and WOW! I am in love! I was going to clean today but instead I'm going to back read all I missed. I love your kitchen! I admire your white appliances. I have a very small kitchen and my husband made all the kitchen cabinets by hand and he painted them white. I listened to all the feedback about how I needed stainless steel appliances and I purchased them. Big mistake.......they show every smudge and finger print. I wish I had followed my heart. Have a wonderful day!

    1. Hi Betty,
Welcome to my blog. Thanks for taking time to read back through some of my posts. I like white appliances too for how easy they are to clean. I may stay with the white and just add some accents to the white cabinets to have them blend more. I have had stainless steal too and I know how much work it is to keep them clean.
      Have a great week ahead.
      Kris
