Shortly after he "rescued us" we found out he had aggressive terminal cancer. No chance of cure but there was a medication that had proven in 60% of dogs with Cooper's cancer to slow the growth and help the dog into remission. We are blessed to find out this medication is showing promise for Cooper.
The picture above is Cooper after his surgery to remove the cancer back in April of this year.
A little back story. We were heart broken when we suddenly lost our female basset hound Libby this past winter. Then Cooper this big lug of fur and ears came into our lives by pure accident. He needed to be rescued and we needed to be rescued.
When we found out he had terminal cancer that was not curable after we adopted him, we thought how can this be? We just found him and rescued him and love him. How could this now happen? It did not make any sense.
Now it does. He was brought to us to love and give him the best possible life and he healed our hearts and gives us such prospective on life.
He teaches us that each day is truly a gift to be cherished and to make the most of it even on the hardest days.
There is always something good to each day. Sometimes we have to stop and just appreciate the small blessings in each day.

ReplyDeleteAw, thanks for sharing Cooper's story with us. We are blessed to have two bassets as next door neighbors, Dudley and Roscoe.

ReplyDeleteHi Kris, aww I'm so happy to hear about Cooper! I do believe in love and extra TLC and it's amazing how people and dogs are so special for each other. My dog was very sick too when we rescued him when he was a puppy. He is such a healthy dog now and he'll be 9 years old in October. Give a big hug to Cooper from me and Bosco!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julie xo
I love this news Kris!! You truly are an angel! xo
ReplyDeleteKris I am feeling and believing it's always about love. Last year when we were facing Max >^..^< fighting to stay on planet earth you were there for me my friend. Through all your encouraging emails your message was always that he loves us too much to leave and loves his life. When he passed I knew he was given more time because he was graced by love. Kris I pray for Cooper every day as you and Terry are in my prayers and I knew if anyone would be able to rally Cooper it would be from the enormous heart filled with love you and Terry have. Let's all take a message away from this post - one that love wins in the end. For however long Cooper will be in his forever home he knows the beauty graced by love.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Vera
Kris, I love the picture of Terry, Abby, and you as you picked Cooper up. That is really good news about Cooper. I always worry about my children losing pets and their hearts hurting. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, Pure LOVE!! We are SOOOO happy for all of you & of course big doggie hugs from Maggie to Mr. Cooper!! The power of positive thinking! And there was ALOT of it from ALL of your followers, friends & family. BIG hugs! xoxo The Mac's
ReplyDeleteAw Kris, he sure is one loveable looking cutie! I can see why you think he is so special. I so relate to your story...The same thing happened to us years ago. We rescued a giant malamute dog that no one wanted. He brought so much joy into our lives the 6 yrs. that we had him. We took him for a exam and they discovered cancer, but it was not operable so we had to have him put down. We still laugh about the fun times we had with that gentle giant!
ReplyDeleteGod looked down and saw you, Terry and Cooper and made it happen. Love this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa. He is a big lug of love and we are so hopeful for many more months with him.
DeleteHugs to you.
Kris
Hooray for Cooper! Pets bring us so much love even when sickness must be battled. His eyes are so soulful. Prayers for Cooper and his tremendous parents who rescued him twice.
ReplyDeleteSUPER DUPER<*YAY*>! I have been afraid to ask....so glad, he looks like such a good pup! Wonderful for all of you, grins, Sandi
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful news Chris. He looks like such a gorgeous boy! x Julie
ReplyDeleteSo precious I cried! He is so cute. As I've said before, you all are saints. Angels. Whatever. We need more people in the world just like you two!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
What wonderful news, and he is just so adorable!
ReplyDeleteYAAAYYYYY!! Way to go, Cooper! Kris, I am FIRMLY convinced that your family's love and caring had as much to do with his remission as the drugs!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs to all of you, with cuddles and chin scratches to Coop!
PS ~ thank you for sharing the great news with us!!
DeleteGod bless Cooper, and God bless you, Kris!
ReplyDeleteGod bless Cooper, and God bless you, Kris!
ReplyDeleteSo touched by the love and commitment you have to everything in your life, when you first got him and heard of the cancer I couldn't help but cry and continue to pray for poor Cooper, made my whole night to read this! Side note I am here in Atlanta burbs went online for the 1802 candle seen accessories but couldn't figure out to order maybe it's the whole iPad thing I need to get on a real computer maybe but I just love soy candles. Take care, Rachelle
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Rachelle for all your sweet prayers for us and Cooper. We are hoping we get a lot more months with him.
DeleteI hope you can figure out that 1802 candle ordering. They are fabulous candles.
Hugs,
Kris
I am so, so happy that Cooper is doing well. Medicine is very sophisticated these days. You are so loving, Terry and Abby as well. I think pets feel that.
ReplyDeleteSending love and best wishes that Cooper defies the odds!
Jane
YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteR E M I S S I O N is such a beautiful word, and I must investigate its origins and play with this word....its suffix "re" seems to suggest a redoing, another CHANCE, to repeat LIFE....and you are so right Kris, I think LOVE emits an energy and gives a will to press on and to make the best out of anything. Cooper looks amazingly well, and animals KNOW just as well as humans, who loves them. Oh this life and its participants, both human and beast are so fortunate to breathe the experience. HAPPY LIFE to you all!!!
ooops, I meant, PREFIX....
ReplyDeleteKris!!!! This brought tears to my eyes** I am so so happy that Cooper is in remission. I know how happy you are. Such great news. May he live a very very long life here on earth with you and Terry.
ReplyDeleteenjoy this glorious day Kris

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend ~ FlowerLady
This is such wonderful news!! Those brown eyes are heart stealers and I know he has stolen yours. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful news!! God truly does hear our prayers, and his healing goes so far beyond anything we can comprehend. I pray that your time with Cooper continues to be a blessing, he is surely a special little guy :)
ReplyDeleteYour story just warms my heart. Dogs and all pets really do add love to our lives that we need. I'm so happy to hear that the cancer treatment is working and you have had many more precious days to spend with him than you first expected. I do believe that dogs wait for us in heaven as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is such fantastic news, Kris. I remember your comforting words about love keeping a beloved pet alive when we were faced with a similar situation with Forrest. Prayers that your love keeps him going for many days to come. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to tell you how much this post touched my heart. I'm so thrilled for you all!
ReplyDeleteCooper is such a love!!
Kris, this just made my day. I believe in my heart that this little guy know how much love he gets from you and Terry. I think he plans to be with you a long time. He knows he is HOME and he wants to stay happy and spoiled. I'll keep prying for this cute little man to stay with you.
ReplyDeleteCindy
He is such a cutie! What a sweetheart! The remission is blessed news!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you Kris! I think there is a bit of mutual rescuing going on. That's the way it's supposed to be I imagine.
ReplyDeleteI love Cooper! Crying tears of joy now that the treatment is helping him stay as long as possible with your loving family. Oh Kris, I know just what you mean--who rescued who? I feel that way every day about our dear brothers Otis & Milo who we adopted from a wonderful KY dachshund rescue organization when they were almost 10 years old. Each day is a privilege to live with them.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you both and Cooper,
Dewena
Cherish every hour, each day. Animals are gifts that give us hope, peace, and joy every day they share their lives with us. Wonderful that Cooper has responded so well to the treatments. You were meant to be together. Even though there will be no such help for my little Gracie (congestive heart failure) her medication is giving us more time together. You would hardly know she is sick, she is so full of love and happiness. But I do know the day will come and have already made the dreaded arrangements because I cannot let her suffer. Hold Cooper close as I cling to my little 5 pound bundle of joy, thankful for having her in my life.
ReplyDeleteYAY for Cooper !! I am SO happy to hear this! I never even thought about animals going into remission as we do. How wonderful ! Buddy, Dalton, and Sofie also send "Paws Up" to Cooper! Great news, Kris, thanks for sharing the update!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, fabulous news indeed! My Chihuahuas Riley and Jacob send slobbery kisses and are happy he is doing great.
ReplyDeleteSuch fantastic news! I'm glad that he's in remission. It's no doubt due to the great medical care and love from y'all that has made the difference. I hope that he continues to do well and y'all can continue having each other to lean on!
ReplyDeleteThat is such happy news. I'm thrilled for you and for sweet Cooper. He is such a cutie.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! He is your blessing!
ReplyDeleteWonderful news and what a blessing.
ReplyDeleteI lost my 10 year old Boston Terrier in May of stomach cancer. Oh how I wish we had more time with her. We had 6 weeks after we found out.
Enjoy sweet Cooper.
Oh that sweet little face! I'm so happy to hear Cooper's cancer is in remission- good care and LOVE go a long way! Here's to many, many happy months. Big hugs,
ReplyDeleteCecilia
so happy for all of you. Continued blessings of love and joy for all.
ReplyDeleteYay for Cooper the trooper, so glad he is doing well...and such a cutie too!
ReplyDeleteThis is great news! I'm so happy for you and Cooper. I do also believe that a loved pet has more will to fight. My cat has a eye infection and the vet said that maybe he would loose his eye... But Milo is being very nice and let me put the medication in his eye even if it's obvious it's painful. Love doesn't heal, but it does help a great deal!
ReplyDeleteThe warmth and love from his eyes, say it all. What a beautiful puppy and happy story too!
ReplyDeleteKris, you and your family are such a blessing to Cooper and I am sure he is to you too. What a sweet looking dog! How could you not love him?
ReplyDeleteDeb
Kris, what great news. You are so right that the love you have for each other is a very healing thing. He looks so good, SO cute, and so loving. These sweet creatures can teach the world so much, and we are all blessed when we have them in our lives..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteWhat a story. It is both happy and sad at the same time.

At the same time bring in so much appreciate him and do everything your can.
You can be extremely proud of yourself Kris.

Hello Kris. Greetings from Malaysia! I am glad I get to read this beautiful story about Cooper. God has brought Cooper and your family together for a special purpose. Hope that Cooper will have many happy years together with you. I am now your newest follower and hope you will follow me too! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh Yes Kris, it's all about love here, and a healing is always the beauty of its loving outcome.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news, it was so sad for all of us to wrap our heads around the bleak news of his fight for life, and the new life for ever how long he would be with you. We knew his time with you would be nothing short of total love and devotion to his wellness, and Kris to hear he is in Remission is wonderful, yes God spared a beautiful man pup in your life, and we will all pray his health does not take another turn for the worst.
I can't tell you how exciting it is to hear good news of Coopers health, and how you love him so... I can't imagine he would have lived if he had not been adopted by you and Terry, you are brave soldiers to have taken on this stress and coopers needs, but look at the beautiful rewards.
See you soon when he is enjoying a Giving of Thanks dinner. And all you inspire before ThanksGiving !!
Xx
