Dingy to Pretty

Happy First Week of The New Year!!!!

I had my great grandmother's cedar chest up stairs in my bedroom and decided it might need a new home down in the living room.

I know a lot of you understand the switch-r-roo's of changing pieces up!!!
Love this cedar chest of my great grandmother's.  It is just so old that it has yellowed over the past few years.  No problem I have white paint lol!!!! Yep, I definitely have white paint on hand in Junk Chic Cottage!!!!

I kept the paint light on the brush and just lightly brushed the paint onto the chest.  I still wanted the chippy to show through.  Just wanted to whiten and brighten her a bit.

I am  happy with pure white with a touch of texture added in my decor.  Just wish I could capture the whites a little better with the ole camera!!!!  While the pictures come out a little washed the room is serene and pretty in white.

Before I say Good Bye.  I wanted to share a sweet little basket I got from Santa  for my throws.  Love finding little gifts like this under the tree.  No precious jewels for me Santa.  Just give me a sweet little throw basket and I am a happy girl!

Have a great start to the new year.  Wishing all of you soooo much happiness and inspiration in the new year.

  5. I love what you did with your Grandmother's Cedar Chest. My Mom and Dad gave me one just like it when I graduated from High School and called it a "Hope Chest." I remember filling it up with sheet sets, towels, china and all sorts of stuff that I hoped to use some day. Yours looks lovely in your living room.
Yep, give me a pretty basket or something from the antique store and I'm happy. Diamond and perfume days are over! LOL!
Happy New Year to you Kris.

  12. Whoops, left you a comment and then realized I had forgotten my son was using my computer and Google was under his profile. Anyway....I love the pure white! So fresh and pretty! How nice to have a beautiful piece of your grandmothers. The trunk looks beautiful as a coffee table!

  13. That old chest looks great in the living room...plus it gives you storage. I like it better with the whiter paint, too. I wish people could see the 'layers' in your house. You really have to see it in person to appreciate the depth and warmth you have even with all white there. It is homey and warm feeling. Love your new basket- Santa did good!!! xo Diana

  19. Kris I so love your Grandmothers cedar chest used as your coffee table. Perfect size and your light painting freshened it up beautifully. Baskets add the perfect texture to mix in with all your white pieces. I too love baskets and lately have fallen in love with pot belly baskets. Thankfully I found room for one, but living in a straight through row home floor space is always limited. Boy that Santa was sweet to you.

  21. GOod morning dearest Kris! Everything looks marvelous, and I too can live in all white! I am crossing my fingers that this summer, I can paint the kitchen and maybe even our old living room white. I know what you mean about capturing all white in photography. There has to be a source of SHADOW as well as light to bring out those contrasts that make all white photography pop out, and it's fun but a bit tricky to find the solution. But your photos DO emanate the love and softness of your white crush (AND MINE!)

  22. I love the calm and serene feel after Christmas, and yours certainly fills the bill, Kris. That new basket and what's in it are the picture of January happiness for me! Your refreshed chest makes a great coffee table. Hoping this is THE week for you.

  23. I have an old blanket chest (not as beautiful as yours...very simple) that I use as a coffee table and I love it. I love how your new space is so serene!

  24. Oh to have a piece of furniture from your grandmother must be just the best!! It certainly looks so much fresher now and blends beautifully in your living room! You are so cute Kris, a basket instead of jewelry, Santa does really love you :)

  26. Very pretty, Kris. I know what you mean about using texture in your white and neutral rooms. I've noticed this over and over again in the homes I feature in my LLISS series, and see that textures and layers is what really makes it work. Love the basket, and, like you, anything like that would be much preferred to jewels. Hugs, Nancy

  31. Just beautiful! I love pieces handed down and treasured, they make for the best decorations and conversation. I have an old bench from one of my grandmothers that I sat on many a times as a little girl to put my shoes on. Your pictures always show how beautiful your home is. Can I ask where your found the angel wings, is that an old piece or something new from a store I could purchase? I have a thing for angel wings since my mother passed away. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.

I love that you have such a special treasure. Your home always makes me smile. Right now I am still loving your kitchen, it is my favorite room. :-)
Cute what Santa left you. No jewels for me as well...I received a new bird feeder. ;-) That may sound silly, but I love to feed the birds, so it was perfect for me.
    Love you,
