Hi Everyone.
I am almost done with packing and am ready for the Pod to come on Tuesday to be loaded with our things. Our house items will be in storage until we can move into the new Cottage. We will close next Thursday on our new cottage. It is finally here!
We will have a contractor putting up the garage and basement after he can get permits pulled after closing next Thursday.
Hopefully that will not take a long time and he and his crew can begin the work. In the meantime Terry and I will be staying with my older daughter and SIL and grand girls for a month or so while the work is being done.
Abby is very excited that MiMi and Bop are moving in with them! We are called MiMi and Bop, not grandma and grandpa! To this day we do not know how Terry got the name Bop but he did and it is his forever!
Abby is excited to have a sleep over every night with us!
As a lot of you know I am also going to be moving my mom into her new senior apartment in June. So I am getting us packed and also getting my mom ready for her move too. Since we are downsizing, my mom will be taking a lot of my furniture for her new place.
One of the pieces I am giving her is my small dining table and chairs. Well I was giving her the dining table and chairs and then.......
My daughter Jen wanted the chairs to match her farmhouse table and she was taking my chippy china cabinet too. So we played musical chairs.
My mom will be taking 4 of Jen's current dining chairs and then Jen will take mine. Got all of that!!!!
We took off the chair covers and then cut the fabric to cover the seat. Using a staple gun we attached the fabric to the chair. Easy Peasy. |
Gives the seat covers a whole new look. The fabric is a steel gray with the white pattern. |
Here it is the new chair seat covered with new fabric. |
The covers look a little blue in these pics but they are a true darker gray. The sun was setting as I took these pictures. |
Terry being the sweet handyman he is gave each of the chairs a new coat of white paint. Now the chairs look brand new. |
My mom will have 4 pretty chairs for her new apartment to go with the pretty dining table I am gifting her. |
The chairs look great with their new coat of paint and pretty fabric!!!! I'm glad things are going smoothly and you found an assisted living apartment for your mom. I can't wait to see how you transform your new cottage :o)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Can't wait to see your new place and your new ideas. I love that y'all are playing musical furniture. We've been doing that lately too with my parents and my hubby's parents. :)
ReplyDeleteThe chairs look great and I really like the fabric. Your mom is going to really like them in her new place.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for your to get into Cottage III and I know that you and Terry are going to work your magic and I can hardly wait.
Abby sounds like she is so excited to have her Mi mi with her. Hope you get some sleep with all the sleep overs she is planning LOL. They sure wonderful at that age.
Have a wonderful weekend and so glad that your getting some great weather.
Lots of hug and love,
Mary
I love following along on your new adventure! Seems like everything is finally coming together, yayyyy!
ReplyDeleteYou have SO much going on, Kris!!! I admire you for being so positive and happy while you do yet another move. It's great you will be staying with your daughter and can eat up those grands!
ReplyDeleteI love the blue fabric on the chairs...great job. A while ago I would have played it safe and done burlap or drop cloth. I think we are getting our 'personalities' back. So happy that your mom is happy and I pray her transition goes well.

Kris, You have made everyone happy with all the chairs. How very nice that it all helps your family. Oh yes, staying with the kids will be so good for all of for this time period. The grands will miss you when you do move into the house. I know you are excited to get started. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you. Hopefully we will be doing the same type of move in a month! Moving can be so stressful!
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeletePhew you are a busy bee!!! I sense your excitement and exhaustion! I like your Moms pick of the steel grey. Today it reached 96 in Philly! I smiled at you working outside on the upholstery today while I ran from an air conditioned house into a air conditioned car into air conditioned stores because it was sizzling here. Looking forward to seeing your transformation in the new house into Junk Chic 3 knowing already it will be enchanting and inviting.
xoxo,
Vera
Exhausting but fun times. I love when furniture and other décor things stay in the family. I recently inherited back the first comforted my husband and I had as a married couple. My mom had taken it when hubby and I went from a double bed to queen nearly 30 yrs ago. She had been utilizing it in a guest room so really still in good condition. Now hubby uses it on his hospital bed. He likes snuggling under it. Your mom made a good choice in her fabric. I am on the hunt for the exact chair as the armed one. A friend wants one to paint and make into a teachers chair for story time. She is a specials need teacher. She saw this chair painted as Dr. Seuss's Cat in the Hat. Perhaps when your mom tires of the chairs it could be in a grand babies room. https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18555922_1541895139162173_344901915213606671_n.jpg?. oh=13d9afb817cdba1b94c70283baaa5646&oe=59BD7E51. I think the image will show here. Hope all keeps going well with contractor and such. Can't wait to see all the fun stuff you have planned for take three of the Junk Chic Cottage.
ReplyDeleteI love that you all share furniture pieces that way.We do that in our family, too, and it's nice to see things stay in the family. Blessings on your move!
ReplyDeleteKris, it's happening! It's finally coming to a close! We thought it was so far off, this event!
ReplyDeleteI really love the new fabric for your mom's new chairs. VERY BEAUTIFUL! Now, you will be with family while you wait and I CAN'T WAIT to see what you do with this new cottage. Lots of love to you my friend!
So beautiful and stunning.
ReplyDeleteKris you are so great for lovely furniture.
I just love it
Nice weekend
Hugs

You sound so busy. Kris! All looks great. Your mom and daughter are lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteLooks like everybody will have a beautiful place to sit and dine! Can't wait to see what you do to your new place! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting- all the fine details are working out! The chairs look great all freshened up. I'm so glad you found a satisfactory place for your mom to move into. I'm sure it gives you great peace of mind and I think it's wonderful that some of our furniture is going to be with her.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the name 'Bop'! So sweet! And how darling that Abby is excited :).
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how busy you are Kris, and I'm wondering how you sleep at night. My mind would be going a mile a minute 24/7!
The chairs looked great even before they were repainted, but now they look all spiffed up and brand new. How nice that after all these years they're still in the family. I bet you never imagined that someday your mom would have them. I'm wondering how she is doing now after leaving Florida? Does she miss her friends? (I noticed while looking at houses several people in their 80's or so move back up north due to health issues to be with their families. Full circle I suppose.)
Have a great weekend Kris!

Oh- I knew you would get everything all worked out as you move things around from house to daughters to moms and to the new cottage. I just can't wait to see what you do in there. I know it will be a challenge because it is smaller than your current cottage but I have faith in your abilities to use every square inch of the place.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you but I am kind of tired of taking care of spaces that never get used. The thing about your new place is that you will live in/use all of it. AND can't wait to see what you do with your backyard!
Love to you- have a great weekend- xo Diana
Love the new seat cushion fabric! So great that you can keep this furniture in the family.
ReplyDeleteMary
The new fabric on your Mom's chairs is pretty. Enjoy your move and your time with your family!
ReplyDeleteOur mothers taught us to share and you are doing just that with the chairs. Love the new fabric on your mom's chairs. That project is probably one of the easiest I've ever tackled. Hope everything moves along in a timely fashion. Good luck! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Kris! Your daughter is so lucky to get your beautiful chairs. And your mom's are lovely too. Sounds like everything is coming together so well for you. I keep a running list of names in my head of names for Billy and I to be called when we are grandparents, and I love yours! Enjoy the time with your sweet granddaughters. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh my.....where have I been? So happy you and Terry are finally going to be in your forever home, Kris! You sure have been in a whirlwind as you get ready for your final move! Love the new chair covers for your mom! So glad all the chairs will stay in the family....it's all about history. Have fun with the kids, and with all those plans in your head...lol.
ReplyDeleteLove ya girl!

I think Bop is an adorable name. I bet the slumber parties will be fun and wonderful how tight your family is to one another.
ReplyDeleteYour mom will enjoy her new chairs. Hopefully you can get some peace of mind knowing she I close.

Seems to me there is a long line of talented decorators in your family. Love everything you do!
ReplyDeleteLots of exciting changes for your family! I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll so with your new home.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your downsizing. My husband and I did that last year. We now live in 960 sq. ft. all on one floor and we love it. having lived in over 2000 sq. ft. previously we had our 5 children come and take what we weren't using. We always laugh about how we need to start a library card system so we know who has what furniture in case someone else needs it. I am anxious to follow your new home journey. Best of luck with everything.
ReplyDeleteyou have truly been a very busy lady. I had to laugh at your musical chairs and the whole time I was wondering what you would be using for dining chairs in cottage 3 and then you told us at the end. :) Enjoy the time with the grandkids. xo
ReplyDeleteMiMi and Bop sound good! :) It's great that the pieces of furniture you can't use get passed on within your family. Your mom picked a lovely fabric for the chairs. Wishing you all the best for the move and the upcoming constructions, Kris!

Mr. JCC was so fabulous to paint those white again.. love the new covers on the seats. I'm so excited to see your new cottage III once you start applying your magic touches! ReplyDeleteChairs are looking fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the chairs! You are quite busy!
ReplyDeleteWow, those chairs came out great! I love the fabric she chose. I have a couple of sisters and we constantly trade furniture. It's a lot of fun and keeps things interesting. Now that their kids are getting married and setting up homes, we are swapping with them, too. I gave my niece in Florida our old living room couches. She was thrilled to have them. I felt great that they got a new home. They were basically brand new...All good stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteHello, I love the chairs. I am a blue girl, so the fabric is right up my alley. :-)
ReplyDeleteSending hugs and prayers as you all move and get settled.
I love your names, Bop is so fun. HA!
Carla
It's really wonderful that you can keep the chairs in the family like that. I love the fabric for the seat covers too. Good luck with all the moving around, and I can't wait to see the new cottage!
