Hi Everyone.
Just checking in to say Hi. Have a few things to share. Still no progress quite yet on the permits. The City said possibly today or Monday for the basement permit and hopefully by next Wednesday the garage build permit. Then we can hopefully get the contractor moving on these projects.
In the meantime Terry and I are still working on the kitchen and bathroom and hope to have that coming together soon.

My new flower boxes are filling in nicely. The sweet potato vines are triple in size in just a few weeks. The petunia's are loving all the sun and heat we have had. |
|
So excited to see the impatiens doing so well. A few years back we had a fungus that struck the impatiens in our state and I missed having them in the flower beds. This big tree gives them the shade they need and they get late afternoon sun. Hoping they will begin to mound in the next few weeks. |
|
Next year I want to put more flowers in these beds under the window. I have the hosta's and roses now but next year when I am living in the house I will plant more. Would love to see more color out front. |
|
I just love summer and my flowers. |
|
This is a little project that Terry has been working on for me. I wanted two cornice's to frame the top of the living room windows in the new house. |
|
These were simple and inexpensive to make. Some crown molding and 1x8's for the base. |
|
A few cuts and a metal bracket to hold the pieces together. |
|
We had some of the textured wallpaper left from when we covered the dishwasher on at the last house. I am using that on the base of the cornice for texture and a vintage feel. |
|
This is all the supplies you need. We pasted the wallpaper on the base and let it dry. The wallpaper is paintable which I love.
|
|
Tonight we will paint these white and hang them on the windows. I will have an upcoming pic to show you how they look with some new drapes hanging underneath.
Have a great Friday and wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Kris |

Give that man a HIGH FIVE for me, OK?
ReplyDeleteKris, I am so excited for you. You have THE VISION. Those cornices, Ruben made one to put above HIS TV and it looks sooooooo good. There's always a way to spruce things up and when those ways are inexpensive, it's all the more fun. You are keeping us in suspense over here!
I hear ya about the inpatiens; we too had that darn fungus and it's been at least 8 years now that I have not had my beloved inpatiens. Those things would get so puffy and impressive. This year however, I started out with some begonias in those shady areas....I HATED THEM so much that even though I did my duty to water them, they died! They must have known I don't like them....teeeheee
ANYHOOO...I got the New Guinea inpatiens and these have the look of the regular ones. So far, so good.
OK my pal, have a super weekend and dream of your cottage all dolled up! It will happen.
The flowers look fantastic! The impatiens were infected with a downy mildew that started in the south- was distributed from greenhouses all over the place- headed west and then across the country and caused quite a problem. It seems as though it's under control now. I love them and was real bummed for a while about not being able to last them. Once your bed under that tree fills in it's going to look fantastic! The cornice will look wonderful- I wish my Dan was handy with stuff like that! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's all looking good! Really looking forward to seeing more pictures soon. We all love to see what you get up to and what incredible results you always achieve xx
ReplyDeleteIt's all coming together beautifully. Finger's crossed for you guys re: those permits. Goodness, it's sure taking a long time.
ReplyDeleteYou are making good progress!!
ReplyDeleteKris your flowers are so huge! You really have a green thumb! The cornices are going to look so great on your windows. I love the textured wallpaper on it. You truly have a wonderful toolman! Have a great weekend sweetie.

This might sound awful but I'm so excited to see what you do with your house........you and your husband get to do all the work and we get to see all the great changes. Of course all your work inspires us to get going on our own ideas. Have a great weekend and week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThose impatients are gorgeous!!! You definitely have a green thumb. :) You have such a good vision and the ability to bring it to life with your decor and flowers. You're one talented lady! And I can't forget Terry...he's talented too! :)

Flowers can't help but flourish for you, Kris! I am always running into pics on Pinterest that I know right away are of your flowers on your beautiful deck. The flower boxes make such a difference on a house, never had them but want some, especially after seeing yours.
ReplyDeleteA good weekend to you of getting lots done,
Dewena
You certainly have the Midas touch for flowers Kris! The potato vines look very, very happy, and the impatiens already look pretty. In a few weeks they will be outstanding!
ReplyDeleteLoving that cornice already! I think I'm more anxious than you for you to move in...or maybe I'm just impatient ;).
Have a productive weekend, and I hope your permits are in place soon.

The plants are looking great! I hear you on wanting more color. I can't wait to be at the farm full time just for that reason!cant wait to see the cornices done. Hope your weekend is going well.

Kris your flowers are looking beautiful, I too planted Pink impatiens this year. They look good but man are we getting a lot of rain storms. How frustrating it is to have to wait out permits, grrrrrr... but look at you and Terry go making beauty and progress and inviting us to watch the building of your home.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Vera
I love the cornice idea and that textured paper is cool. Look forward to photos when all done.
ReplyDeleteGetting permits without a lot of delays and red tape is something we are experiencing, too, Kris. We are getting new front porch and driveway, and it's been a huge amount of frustration.
ReplyDeleteI love the impatiens around your tree. What a great idea and it looks gorgeous! Your cornices will be wonderful. That Terry!!!!
Have you met any of your new neighbors yet? I think this is a very nice area.
Praying you keep moving forward as quickly as possible!

ReplyDeleteThe cornices look fabulous! Your fella is so talented. The flowers all look great...the impatiens will be gorgeous when it fills in. Hope your knockout roses don't get as big as the one we have. It's the size of a golf cart. I'm sure the neighbors are watching with interest all the improvements you are making. Hoping that this coming week will bring you and Terry good news. Take care of yourself...you have lots of work ahead! xoxo
ReplyDeleteKris, you window boxes are so pretty and I love the impatients. Again, I don't think I started early enough to plant some flowers! I can't wait to see the cornices up and what curtains you hang. It's going to be so much fun to follow along with all that you will do..Hope you are staying cool..xxoJudy

Kris, Your landscaping is beautiful! You will have to tell me your secret for having such a pretty window box. I bet I have planted at least 20 plants in mine and every single one died.
