Seriously?!?!?!

Seriously just when you think things are going in a better direction you get a curve ball thrown.

After the disappointment of finding out the hardwood floors in this house could not be saved Terry and I found a nice new floor to be put down over the hard woods.

We found this great new floor and I was excited to have the flooring guy start the next day to install these floors.

Once again that excitement was quickly extinguished when the floor guy told us that a long patch along the living room and down the hall to the bedrooms was crowning.  Crowning meaning the floor was bowing way too much to have the new floors just laid over the top of them.

Ok Seriously?!!! So now what?  The floor guy looked at me and said we can just take out the part of the flooring that is crowning and could replace it with 3/4 underlayment.  Still was going to add more to the budget but at least that was better than tearing out all the floors.

So tear out began of the hardwoods from the living room down to the bedrooms.  Today this area will have the 3/4 underlayment put down to level out the floor with the rest of the hard woods.

Then they can finish putting down the new floors.  That is the plan at least unless Mr. Floor guy finds any more issues.

Floor guy got the guest room done and this is how the floors are beginning to look.

I love these floors.  They look and feel like real hard woods.  I like the wider planks for a more cottage feel.

I really hope there are no more issues anywhere in this house and we can move forward on the renovations.

I am seriously tired of hearing bad news and the statement "it is what it is"!!!  I  do not want any more bad news and I want a house to move into soon.

I am sure a lot of you are tired of coming to JCC and seeing my house of horrors and want to see some cute cottage decorated rooms.

I am trying to do that for me and for you.  Hopefully soon I can move in and unpack my chippy cottage whites and begin to make this sweet little cottage into our home.

I am not sure why my video would not play so I just deleted it until I can figure this one out.

Yikes it is always something!
Have a great start to the new week.
Kris

  1. You are lucky to have a very conscientious floor man, Kris! There are those rascals out there that would have just slapped that floor down anyway. So, how's that for a silver lining...? What has been laid is so perfect; I agree with the wider planking. I'm hoping you are able to move in soon. It has to be hard to not live with your own things. <3

  7. Wow, I can't believe everything you have run into, luckily it can all be fixed but wish you didn't have the added expense. Your floors are going to be amazing though Kris and I have no doubt with your decorating skills it will be everything you hoped. I don't know why but the video is unavailable?

  8. I love the floors and I am sure that it now will go smoothly. Thank God the floor guy was honest and didn't give you a bunch of lies. I think you will be so happy when finished and it's just around the corner. Remember, All good things come to those who wait.

  10. Dear Kris, I can't believe it.

There's nothing to say since it is hard hearing words that are intended to support but only frustrate. It must be on MY end, but the video says, "Video not available." It has to be my computer!

    HUGS TO YOU.

  12. Oh Kris, I'm so sorry to hear this about your floors! You know, we put our hardwoods on top of linoleum and our floors were uneven too. They had to pour this liquid stuff on them to level them out. It took a couple of days for it to dry because some areas were so uneven. And of course it was more expensive because we didn't plan on having to pay for the leveling product. Ugh. That being said, your floors are looking great! I know you can't wait to get in there and put your personal touch on everything and I can't wait to see! It might be my computer, but when I click on the video, it says "video not available." I'll try back again because I'd love to see it. :)

  15. Awww Kris! I have this stuff happen with my house all the time. Sorry you're having to endure it all. At least I only get my bad news every so often since I have not tackled everything at the same time. This too shall pass and you will be so pleased with your beautiful little cottage. The floors look amazing! Fingers crossed you'll only get good news from now on. xox

  16. Well look at it this way.....your setbacks will make the reveals all the more sweet. You're building anticipation!!! It's like Who Shot JR!!! (I don't mean to make light of your situation. I was thinking about you earlier because my Cubbies tracker alerted me to the horrible weather and flooding in your area. Cubbies tracker keeps me updated on weather where I like and in Cook Co.)

Chin up! You'll be in soon, and you'll laugh about all this one day.

  17. This too in time shall pass...my mantra when I am feeling exceptionally overwhelmed by the circumstances of the day. Soon you will be able to look back and be grateful that you have much to look forward to. Fingers crossed for you, that this is the last of the bumps in your path to your cottage home.

  18. It's not a house of horrors it's just a work in progress. We ran into issues too when we were putting in our wood floor in Oklahoma. They said our foundation was too moist! We had never seen evidence of that so we cranked down the AC as cold as we could for several days and then had them test it again. It worked. :)

  19. I can sense the frustration in your writing Kris, and I'm so sorry things are so stressful for you. I have a feeling it's smooth sailing from now on :).

I absolutely love your floors! They are truly perfect in every way.

  20. Hang in there, dear Kris. I marvel at your ability to keep plugging along. I'd probably have given up and drove down to Lake Michigan and jumped in were I in your shoes. (BTW, I DON'T know how to swim!) All your fans are standing behind you and sending encouragement and peaceful thoughts. We know that in the end, when all your treasured chippies are artfully arranged, you will back on this and smile. Well, maybe not smile but be thankful that you made it through. Chin up - we're rooting for you.

    1. Thanks Glenda. Your words and everyone else's words help me stay focused. I want my blog to go back to happy decor times and not doom and gloom lol! I can see a bigger and better picture on the horizon so I am staying hopeful. Sometimes you have to go through a rough patch or two before you get to a better place. Just hoping the rough patches are over!!!!
Have a great start to the new week ahead.

  21. Miss Nancy is right...there are unscrupulous folks out there who would put the floor down anyway and say it's okay. You and Terry may live in this cottage for a very long time and you would sure hate to have to redo something big like the floors in the future. If good wishes from your friends would speed things along, we would send them by the truckload. It's about time for you to start decorating! xoxo

  23. Kris, what did I say? There is always something!! But looks like the floor guy knows what he is doing and I agree that the new floors are perfect. They say the joy is in the anticipation, so take your time and get it right for you. We will all love it no matter what..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  24. Oh Kris, the joy's of an older home. I went through this for years in the home that I raised my kids in. It's tough and always seems to cost more than was planned but it is always worth it. Once it is all said and done it will be amazing and just think you will know everything that had gone into it! lol Hang in there sweet friend and I will send many helpful thoughts your way!
    xoxo Jo

  25. Hang in there Kris, the new floors are going to look so much nicer with your decor. As much as it doesn't feel like it now, it will all be worth the headaches in the end. Keep on swimming!

  26. Okay, I'll just look past all the trouble to get to where you are, and admire the parts that are done. Gorgeous flooring!

  27. You are so lucky the installer found the crowning. I had a similar floor put down. Love was the way I was feeling. Month later and tears. The floor had crowned in most rooms especially our bedroom. It felt like we were walking up and down hills. After complaints etc. the manufacturers refunded our money and we replaced it with carpets. Never happy about this. We have now sold that house and built a new one with wide planks like you have and once again I am in love. Your floor looks good.

  29. Hi Kris,
Sending a BIG hug! I do know how you feel, at times, when it rains in pours. Sending lots of hugs.

    P.S.
    How is your mom doing?

  30. Drat! Sorry for the additional bad news. I like the new floor look- it has a somewhat rustic look and and not too fussy. My kids had a dark cherry flooring in their first place and it drove me crazy how everything showed on it! Before you know it you'll be in there and you'll be having a good time pulling out your decorative things and making your home just how you like it! Saying a special racer for you!
