Happy Weekend!
Remember Mr. Rogers and the song "These are the people in your neighborhood".
Today I want to show you my charming neighborhood and also share my outdoor fall decor.
The first time I drove down our street I fell in love with the charm of each of the houses in this neighborhood. Each home is unique and no two are a like. These homes were built in the late 40's to early 50's.
My sweet harvest angel is hung on my front door to greet any guests. |
I love that she has those sweet freckles just below her eyes on her cheeks. |
My flower boxes are stuffed with fall pumpkins and gourds. |
Welcoming fall at the new house. |
I almost didn't recognize your home's exterior for the added color! It looks beautiful Kris, and so does your neighborhood. Our neighborhood is morphing similarly.....people buying homes, tearing down and re-building homes that don't necessarily fit the vernacular. Have a great weekend. I emptied containers yesterday...it was really hot, but wanted to get it done before it gets cold...if that ever happens.
ReplyDeleteCharming homes indeed and yours looks great. I was like wow that one is big and then read that it is a new one. We are having the same weather here and the temps are above normal so I know yours are way above normal.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks wonderful and what a gorgeous neighbourhood! My neighbourhood is the same as yours - houses built in the 1920s and 30s (mostly) with huge lots and playparks and trails dotted here and there. Mostly single story houses, too so lots of sunshine getting to the houses and a view as well. On a couple of lots, the original houses have either been expanded hugely or torn down and massive structures put in their place. Sigh. Progress isn't always beautiful... xox
ReplyDeleteYou really do have some charming homes in your neighborhood. Your harvest angel is the cutest - I love how her arms are carrying bunches of flowers. I like the planters and window boxes all falled up. We hit about 75 yesterday and will be in the low to mid 60’s next week. This has been roller coaster fall season!
ReplyDeleteIt's happening here in Austin as well; charming little cottages getting torn down for modern houses or worse, multifamily units. Makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood is so charming! And your home is looking very festive for Fall! We've had mild weather this past week and more cool weather on the way. So nice after the heat of Summer! Lol, your temperatures are what ours have been - funny it's warm for you and cool for us. Have a wonderful weekend!
Really adorable homes in your neck of the woods, Kris. Don't those huge, new ones all start to look the same, after a while? Your own cottage is TOO cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Poppy
I love your neighborhood and I hate when those beautiful old homes are torn down so that bigger homes can be built. Love your outside fall decor. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteI love it, Kris, and hope to see it in person---hahaha--coming whether you like it or not!;>)
ReplyDeleteYour home looks beautiful all decorated for Fall. Love your sweet angel on the door. She is just darling. I love the old homes, too. Although the new ones are beautiful there is just something about the older homes in a neighborhood that makes it have a charm all of its own.
Have a great weekend. We are in the UP--headed up to Grand Marais today. John is going to pick up a few rocks (to add to the ones in his head)...I am SOOOO bad. xo Diana
Your new home and your new neighborhood are just lovely and very inviting. Give me an older home any day of the week...the new houses just can't match that history and charm. Well, I kinda take that back...there is a builder here in Indianapolis who builds new to look old. The owner of the house I was in had Suzanne Kasler do the decor. I do love what you have done for fall. The window boxes are so cute. Have a good weekend. Sounds like your weather is about like ours. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely neighborhood! Your home looks wonderful all decked out for fall.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful homes. I love the character each has. So unlike today when they all look so much alike. I too was like, "wow, someone important must have lived in that home in the 40s". LOL New build.
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood is really charming, Kris. I love the architecture and would enjoy walking around there. Your fall décor looks beautiful. You had real summer weather lately. Your temperatures were even higher than ours.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
xo Julia
Oh it really is a gorgeous neighborhood. Love your cottage, so pretty and the fall decor is perfect
ReplyDeleteKris, I really love your neighborhood, it's so charming, each house is different and so lovely. Your cottage is wonderful all decked out for Fall. I'd never noticed the lattice- work on your front porch, it's really perfectly cottage-y. I know you're having so much fun with this stage of the remodel.
ReplyDeleteHappy happy day for you and Terry. I am so excited for you to be in your new Junk Chic Cottage 111 and be settled at last. You are just in time for the holidays and holiday decor. The exterior of your home is so darling and inviting and your neighborhood is amazing. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeletexoxo Jo
love the neighborhoods like this. Here, the charm of these older neighborhoods cost a pretty penny. Your is so pretty all decked out for Fall. Heading up your way on Friday for a visit
ReplyDeleteI love the style of homes in the northeast and midwest. Those are styles that are not common out here. It's too bad they are tearing down. It bugs me that people move to the neighborhood for "charm" and the "trees" and then proceed to wreck it with a monstrosity. Sometimes they are done well, but most of the times they are not. The worse is when the take a huge lot, knock down a beautiful home, and put six or eight houses on it and gate it creating a little future ghetto. xoxo Su
ReplyDeleteThe homes in your neighborhood is so pretty and I especially like yours.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an asset to your new neighborhood! What a charming place to live. Love your harvest angel!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are finding this place to be a good home and have discovered a lovely neighborhood! It is nice when homes are differing and not all the cookie cutter type.
ReplyDeleteSummer like here this weekend too. Fall, please step up and show yourself. One house more adorable than the next.
ReplyDeleteThese people didn't get the memo that big houses are done. How could you not see the beauty in front of you? The past has importance. This generation doesn't get it unfortunately.
Cindy
Looks to me like most of those houses in your neighborhood are bigger homes. Don't know if that's the case or not. But I do love the charm of those homes that aren't cookie cutter.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hi Kris
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood is just so pretty. Love all the houses. I can drive around all day looking at houses. Who can tire of that right* Your sweet new cottage looks amazing all decorated for the Fall season. Love your Harvest Angel on the door. Everything looks like its coming along so nicely. Love those window boxes. Enjoy this glorious weather

You really do live in a charming neighborhood! You have the best fall entry too. So welcoming!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty neighborhood, Kris! I love how all of the homes are not cookie cutter. The first one is so cute! Your house looks so festive for fall, glad you are making yourself at home:)
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with the 5th house you shared. Oh my!! You do live in a lovey neighborhood.
Your Autumn decorations are beautiful.
Give Peggy a hug,
Carla
I'll repeat what everyone else here said. Your neighborhood is darling. I grew up in Portland, OR in a neighborhood very similar. I loved it and I miss it. Those older homes of the 40's were just so neat and I had several friends who lived in them so got to visit and play. One friend had a huge house in NE Portland that I thought was a mansion when I was little! We could spend hours playing inside and I would get lost in all the rooms. Must have had at least 8 bedrooms! It was built with style... homes on the same street were smaller and quaint and I loved them all. I'm so glad you found a "cottage neighborhood" there. Where I live now has nothing of the sort, anywhere in town! Darn...... enjoy your Fall decorating.... love your angel on your door and all of your pretty colors in the pots. Hugs.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood has so much charm, Kris! It is so reminiscent of the neighborhood my grandparents lived in when I was growing up, with the homes being around the same age. Unlike here, your neighborhood appears to still have pride of ownership and they are well maintained with loads of curb appeal. Sadly here, most of those charming neighborhoods have become dilapidated rentals or torn down for big new homes that look out of place. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with your tour. Your Fall decor looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood is lovely and all the homes so different - I love that. Your cottage looks terrific and goes so well with the neighborhood. Looking forward to seeing the inside.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend.
Hugs and hope your feeling better.
Mary
Wow!! How lovely your decorations...
ReplyDeleteThe homes in your neighborhood are so charming! It is such a shame that some people are tearing them down to build bigger modern homes. Love your home decorated for fall :o)

KRIS! Hello! Your neighborhood is gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of the fairytale style found here in Minnneapolis. We too had warmer than usual weather and it was gorgeous, but the winds of October came and blew away all the colors from the trees. The real October is about to reveal itself soon!
ReplyDeleteYour cottage looks marvelous and I can't wait to see the inside!
Kris, I understand what you mean about preserving the original look of a quaint neighborhood. I love it. I love the way the front of your new home looks. I am sure your neighbors are thrilled with you and Terry in the neighborhood. Blessings for a good week ahead. xoxo, love, Susie
ReplyDeleteYour neighborhood looks a lot like my neighborhood, Kris. Tons of different style cottages, very few look the same. Some have been replaced with larger versions, although the building codes are pretty strict by the beach, so it impedes some of the renovations. And I am happy about that. I like the cottages...yours looks lovely for fall...if it ever decides to arrive. ;) xoxo have a great week!
ReplyDeleteKris, you certainly live in a charming neighborhood and I love that you decorated the window boxes for fall too. That harvest angel on the door is so perfect. Is she new.? I don't think I've seen her before..Hope you are having a lovely fall weekend..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, I want to be one of your neighbors! What a charming well manicured cottage style neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteAs for the larger homes going in and tearing down the smaller cottages to do so I totally get how sad this could be.
I know it pushes the comps up for your value, but devalues the smaller quaint living charm.
I LOVE the full hip roof on your cottage and that real brick chimney is welcomed I'm sure.
I am looking forward to the inside reveal, you need to create a YouTube mini movie.
See you soon,
PS. Fall charms your home with all that brick work, and the all white home fourth one down? Well,
I want to live there.
Xx

Your fall decors are so lovely! I really love the american houses!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs Alessandra
Your cottage looks so sweet all decorated for fall! I'm with you in that I much prefer the older homes and their quaint charm over the big houses! I grew up in a 50's rambler and loved it! A few years ago, it was turn down and replaced by a "mcmansion". Very sad and it sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the older, smaller homes. Have fun decorating! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteKris your new neighborhood is a very charming enclave. I find it sad when people tear down an older house just to build a bigger house, it takes the enchantment away. Your decorations, especially in the flower boxes looks very inviting.
ReplyDeletexoxo
I think your home belongs in just the right spot! I love your outdoor decor Kris, speaks so much of all the goodness to behold inside too! I too am sad to see the older homes demolished and updated into something sort of 'odd' in a street like yours. I remember that in our first home in Chicago, and truly, the newer and bigger homes they rebuilt on the old ones, do not appeal to me at all, and I think it's because it seems to not go with the flow of the rest of our neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteKris, I've been out of town and I'm scrolling through trying to catch up. I am in love with your harvest angel. Did you make her? I think we need one on our front door.
ReplyDeleteYour house is adorable and your neighborhood looks like the coziest spot.
Your neighborhood is so lovely, Kris! And your home is beautiful all dressed up for fall!
ReplyDeleteIt's like you live in a storybook! Inside AND out. Your neighbours sure got a treat when you moved in... no one does decor like you. And you two are pretty special too. xo
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the inside reveal, you need to create a YouTube mini movie.

Lovely neighborhood, Kris! I agree - the new homes definitely deplete a neighborhood's character. It's happening here, too. Your home looks lovely all dressed up for fall - now all we need are some fall-like temperatures!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Kris, your Fall décor is adorable!! Your neighbors must LOVE your place!! You will probably motivate some decorating in the neighborhood in the future.

xxoo
Your neighbourhood is lovely. In Brittany too, many big houses are built, one is to be built during the winter in the field next to Cottage...
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling home. So cute. Lovely neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your decor outside for Christmas this year! Love the neighborhood!
