Kitchen Reveal

Hi Everyone.
Hope all of you had a great Turkey Day.  It was so nice to relax and enjoy good food and family all around the table.

I finally got my slipcovers for the kitchen chairs.  Now I can show you the kitchen.

This is a tiny galley type kitchen so we needed to be creative and come up with more room for storage.

So we accomplished this by making the small dining area off the kitchen an extension of the kitchen area.

Here are some before pictures:

This was the kitchen area when we bought the house.  Old appliances that did not work, cracked kitchen floor and dated fixtures.

This is the kitchen after.  New butcher block counters.  We took the upper cabinets down and put up shiplap and then open shelves.  I gave the cabinets some new paint and hardware.

Before

After
We added new flooring and new appliances.

Now this kitchen is updated and more my style.

This was the dining area right off the galley kitchen that is now an extension of the kitchen.

Since we needed this space to add the big armoire for a pantry I decided to make a seating area instead of a traditional table and chairs. These chairs are comfy and it is a great place to have our coffee in the morning.

We added the big armoire for a pantry.  I love having all my small appliances on shelves and a big amount of space for pantry foods.

I am so happy I could repurpose my antique armoire into a more useful piece.  It really works so well as my pantry.

I added this old chippy cabinet door to the side of the pantry.  This chippy cabinet door is from an old farmhouse kitchen.  You know how I love to repurpose things with history!

This room gets lots of pretty light throughout the day.

Terry with his trusty tools made me these beautiful cornices for both windows in this kitchen area.

I have a nice framed out chalk board to add market reminders.  As you can see I started to put up some Christmas decor.

I have a nice area for a coffee bar.

Love having my open shelves.
I think this is my favorite transformation in the kitchen.  We took old vintage frames I had in storage and framed out this window.  It gives the window some character and still lets in lots of light.

I have to give a shout out to my favorite slipcover artist.  Lisa from Fabric 8 Slipcovers came up with these slipcovers for my seating area.
This was a before picture of these chairs.

So you can see what a beautiful difference it made to have Lisa perform her magic for me.
I love that the gray and white compliment my new buffalo check drapes in this room too.
If you are interested in having beautiful slipcovers made please visit Lisa's website here.

I am so happy to share my new kitchen in our tiny cottage home.  I am embracing living smaller .  I am finding that I need less stuff and like the cozy feel of living small.  Being creative with the rooms  has been a fun challenge for me.

Hope you all have a wonderful new week ahead.  Christmas will be here quickly.  Enjoy all the decorating, shopping, baking as the season unfolds.

I hope to have a post soon on my Christmas decor.
Hugs,
Kris

  3. Every time you show a new space, I am wholly amazed, Kris. This kitchen looks REALLY good, and I love the sitting area. Those slipcovers are just terrific and that frame around the window unique! Living smaller really suits you, and to be honest, would suit most of us. Sometimes a life event push is exactly what's needed to get there, otherwise we waller through time and, before you know it, it's much too hard to make the change. You guys are set for the golden years. Life is Good! Happy Saturday.

  7. Kris, your kitchen is just beautiful! I don't have a favorite area although the seating for a coffee spot is lovely. Love all the light that comes in and those slipcovers are gorgeous. I guess one of my favorite things is your use of chandeliers...just fun! Framing out the kitchen window was genius...love the wreath...did you make it? I just now spotted the cute feeding station for Miss Peggy. A beautiful kitchen like this would be a pleasure to keep clean and make it sparkle. xoxo

  40. I can't believe how quickly you guys can transform a room and how much you can do by yourselves! We've lived here 27+ years and I'm still living with oak cabinets and laminate butcher block counters in my kitchen, lol. Your kitchen transformation is gorgeous! I love how you made a cozy, sunny spot for having coffee and how you used an armoire for kitchen storage. Great idea.

  44. Hello Kris,
You look to as settling in on the cottage life. Amazing how you have placed your stamp on the layout of your eat in kitchenette area and I am totally taken with the floating kitchen piece. The armoire is exactly what I would have done, not only the best atmospheric piece, but also added to more of the cottage experience in pieces used unexpently, sigh !! The flanged petite ruffle on the slips is truly a feminine touch and moves you to instantly say to yourself what a sweet adorable cottage here. every inch of your cottage is sweetly perfect.
I have to agree with all that found your cottage kitchen window a focal piece, and the molding of it charms that much more.
I know your dreams have gotten that much more sweeter waking each morning right where you are... “cottage sweet cottage.”

    Xx

  59. Your kitchen is absolutely precious! Can you tell me more about your butcher block countertops? If I ever move, I might want butcher block. Granite just doesn't work in some older homes, and I see myself in an older home one day. Also, I love your slipcovers!!

    1. Good Morning. I got the butcher block countertops on line through Home Depot. I found the best price there. Ikea also carries the butcher block counters too. I love them. They are pretty much maintenance free. I did not seal mine I just use butcher block conditioner on them about every 4 to 5 months. It is also sold at Home Depot and Lowes. It is a conditioner you apply and let it soak into the counter tops. I usually do mine at night before going to bed. Let it sit over night and then in the morning anything that has not absorbed into the wood I wipe off with a paper towel. This conditions the wood and keeps it looking pretty. This way too if you want to do food prep on them you can. I do not but you could. If you seal them with a sealer you definitely cannot do food prep on them. I like the more natural look of the wood without sealing them. They do look great in a cottage or older style home. They are easy to install too. My husband installed them and cut the hole for my sink. That is also a plus over having granite you can install these yourself. You can put hot things on them too without worry. Hope that helps.
      xoxo
