Old Window Green House

Hi Everyone.

Remember I told you I got this great treasure pictured in the article below on my trip to Michigan.  The feature was about Vintage Goods Shop's grand opening and they had the green house in the picture for the article.

I have always wanted one of these green houses made from old windows and vintage pieces.  When I saw it in the Vintage Goods shop in Three Oaks Michigan I was smitten with it!

This is how it looked before Terry made a few adjustments to it after we got her home.  It was a beauty but I had some ideas to make it even more charming.

While I loved the old screens for the top it was a little too large for the space in front of the window.   I had a few vintage chippy pieces in my stash that I thought might give this top a little more character and downsize the top a wee bit.

I had some old shutters.  So I asked Terry if he would try to make a top out of those that would be smaller to fit the green house.  I think I like the shutters just a little better than the screens.

Then I had some old frame pieces that gave the front a little more character.

So here she is all done up pretty for this space in front of my kitchen window looking out to the garden.  Love Terry and his tools to make this piece unique to my taste.

I love the old light gray and white windows she is made of.  Matches perfect in my kitchen.

I added this cute petite chandelier and a real plant of green ivy.

Terry wired the chandelier so it can turn on at night.

This is my first attempt at an indoor house plant.  I am good outside with the garden but inside not so much.  So I hope I can keep this ivy alive.  So far so good!

Anita from Castles and Crowns had gifted me this cherub awhile back.  We added her to the front top of the green house.  She looks good in her new decor space.  Thank you sweet Anita.
Added some garden pieces to the bottom shelf.

I am having fun playing with different garden decor pieces to decorate inside this cute green house.  Thanks for coming by to see one of my treasures from my Michigan trip re loved into my tiny cottage home.

Have a great rest of the week.
We are working on the new kitchen island and hope to have that to show you soon.

Have a great week.
xoxo
Kris

  1. Kris, You amaze me. I love the new touches that Terry put on this piece. Yes, it is better. I know you will be doing something with the screens you removed. LOL. I really love that tiny chandy. I am wishing you luck with your ivy. I am not much of a house plant gardener either. Oh I have tried. :):) I like the things you have placed in this little greenhouse. Adorable ! Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. Kris, this such a charmer. Changing out the screens was a good idea. The cherub is perfect finishing touch.

I can't keep plants alive indoors either.

  6. That looks great. I have a load of old windows that I wouldn't let the boys put out in the yard sale. Of course the thing is you need to send your husband my way. So nice that he does that for you.

  12. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU and Terry are brilliant! KRIS???? This is perfect for that space! You can do anything with it, and as you have proven, you can even add a CHANDELIER! And Angélique the angel looks perfect there, looking down in your charming space. Well done, you two. Give that man a HIGH FIVE for me! I have to get a descent photo of my newly hung chandelier, but I'll shoot you a quick email to show you a phone photo of it. BRAVO!

  13. You have your own little kitchen greenhouse! She is so pretty, Kris! You sure do have a knack for dreaming up little changes to a piece for Terry to carry out that make a huge impact. The added shutters are perfect and Anita's cherub was serendipity, and for there to be a little chandelier to light it at night, well that is going to be something to make you happy every time you look at it.

I think you better get ready for copycat projects on this one, Kris!

  19. You have the cutest ideas, Kris! I would have never thought of putting that in front of a kitchen window, but it's charming! Hope you have better luck with the ivy than I do...if that doesn't work, look for Pothos - it's probably the easiest houseplant to keep happy!

  22. I agree with Doreen! sigh......... can you rent him out to all of us??? sigh...... your wish seems to be his command! The shutters with the neat scrolls, and the cherub look so much better. I never would have thought either, to put a greenhouse in the house! I bet it looks mah va lous at night! Who would have thunk to put a little sparkly chandelier in there?? YOU of course! Oh my.. it's really stunning.. and any kind of plants would look awesome in there. I don't have much luck with plants indoors either, but a coleus usually does well... it is different shades of greens and sometimes a little blush of pink in it. I think all of us are a little green (white?) with envy! Hugs... Marilyn

  31. Sometimes I really do hate you--that you have Terry that can do "all that stuff" while I am stuck with a man that was raised in a DIY lumberyard and can't even drill a straight hole into something. LOL

That piece is FANTASTIC. It was good before but you made it even more wonderful. Knowing how you change things around and move them I am hoping that you don't give it away before I get a chance to see it in person sometime in the not-too-distant future. LOL Love ya-xo Diana
