New Dining Area

Hello sweet friends.

When you live small you have to be creative  when trying to carve out useful areas in your home that you need.

I thought I could live without a dining area but after living here for 6 months I felt I really needed a dining space.

The kitchen is too small for any regular size table.  The people before us has a bistro table in the kitchen.  Terry would not be comfortable sitting at a bistro table!

I found a round table and 4 ladder back chairs on FB Market Place.

Got some chalk paint and painted everything white.

We also were going to have to do a change up of the TV to over the fireplace to make the room work for both a living room and dining room.
The TV is now over the Fireplace.  I chalked painted the cabinet and then distressed it a little to match all the chippy in the room

I made the bay window area a new dining area with my $40 dining set from FB Market Place.
We can look out the big bay window when dining.

Moved my angels and candles to this bay window that use to be on top of the TV armoire.

This is my Christmas centerpiece for the new table.
Little candle votives inside these sparkle angels and then the old ceiling light fixture made into a candle holder.

Now I have a dining area off in the corner of the living room area.

My comfy RA couture couch is angled now to face the TV over the fireplace mantel.

My farmhouse window has stayed put!  Love that window.

Terry has a new power recliner in the corner that he absolutely loves.
I was able to sell both of the other recliners so that was a blessing.
They were not power so we had to pull them away from the wall and into the middle of the room to recliner to watch TV.
This recliner for Terry is so much better.  He pushes a button and the chair reclines without moving it away from the wall.  He loves his cup holders too.

I want to say Thank you to my blogging friend Debbie for making me these cute fairies for my tree.

They are so adorable.  Thank you Deb.

Well there you have it.
New living room switch a roo and new dining space.

I love the whole layout of the new living room now.
I feel content finally that this will stay and will work nicely for us.

Ok I saw a few of you roll your eyes!!!!  I really feel content with this for now lol!

When the tree comes down after Christmas I will have that open area to find a new chair for this spot.
Then it will give me one more seat in this small living space.

Hope to have up my outside decor on the little cottage soon.
We are finally seeing some sunshine here in Illinois.  It is super cold but the sunshine helps so much.
I just pretend it is 75 degrees outside and not 20!!!!!

If anyone is interested in a gift for me this Christmas here it is.
What I want for Christmas!!!!

Have a great week.  Enjoy getting ready for the big day.
Hugs,
Kris

  1. Wow! You are one busy lady! But, you have such an eye for how to put things together. I can only imagine how much your husband loves that chair!! Great deal on the table set - good for you! -Jenn

  2. I'm sure Terry is loving that chair. I did so love the look of the two recliners. A matching set kind of finishes off a small room, even though I know decorators don't usually like anything matching. What you come up with is always lovely and innovative. Yes, living in a small space is trying at times. That's why I have my dining table against the wall! I know you're a bit younger than I am, but I could never sit long on a loveseat or couch. I need more support for my back and neck, which my power recliner, though it does take up room when it reclines, helps so much with. I doubt there would have been room for one of those power couches or another chair like Terry's though.

  3. Ooo, I love this arrangement! Small houses are a challenge; you just have to keep trying until you get it right. And you got it! I'd need more than a bistro table too, lol. It's all so pretty. I know you're enjoying it! Hugs, Cecilia

  4. Oh Kris I love the changes so much. Your new dining table looks beautiful by the bay window.

I can't get John to agree to cover the TV over our fireplace. I don't bug anymore he's such a gem about so much.

  8. I know what you mean Kris by living in a small space and all of the changes you need to make. I like the idea of the table by the window and it looks so cozy. I like that you have the cabinet with the tv over the little fireplace. Your tree looks so pretty and it's the perfect size for that space. Where did you buy it as it look so real? I hope you are content for a while how things are set up in the living room. Enjoy the rest of the week. Hugs, Julie xo

  16. Kris, only you could manage to fit a fireplace, large tv, sofa, dining table set, recliner, and full size Christmas Tree in this small space without it looking the least bit cluttered. Well done my friend and it all looks so cozy and inviting! Wishing you and Terry a beautiful Christmas xo

  18. I seriously do not know where you get all your energy from, Kris!! I love the dining set in the sunny corner - I'm a big fan of a round table for dining - it's so intimate, perfect for conversation. It's tough living in a small space, you have to be really creative and keep switching things up until they work just the way you want them to!

  23. I love that you were able to tweak the room to fit in that perfect table. I too adore your window on the wall. I'm not betting that the room will stay like this long, but it's perfect for now.

  24. Wow. That was a surprise. I love the table and chairs and that corner is just perfect but I did like the two recliners too. However if you have to pull or push them to get everything going then that's a little too much trouble. The new recliner looks perfect. My sister has one with the cup holders and they are great - also makes a good place for the remote so it doesn't get lost.

Now please don't make any rash promises - I am looking forward to what you decide to do with the room in January, after the tree has been taken down and the decs put away! Not surprised to hear that Terry loves that new chair and well done to you, for selling the others and getting another bargain buy with your table and chairs. Hugs, Gilly x

  29. Oh my, Kris, just when I think you are settled and liking your space, you change it! You are so creative in how you juggle the pieces, find and replace those that aren't working, and keep going until you find what you love. This looks great. Million dollar question: is Kris satisfied now?? It doesn't that we love each and every rendition, but it sure is fun watching you work your magic!

  30. Fantastic idea for a small space, Kris and looks so nice! I'd like to know/see more about the cabinet and TV over the fireplace. How both of those were hung and how it looks with the cabinet doors open. xoxo

  31. Hi Kris. You have really taken advantage of your smaller space and made it look so cozy and special. You have everything you need and it doesn't look crowded. I think your farmhouse window with that quote inside and the Christmas greens is almost my favorite thing, but everything looks so pretty and festive. Your tree is beautiful..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy

  36. Love your dining area Kris! It's just darling and the white table and chairs are so crisp and clean.. and by the window too! I was going to ask "what happened to the beige/brown chairs?" and then saw the new one. Much better idea to have one that you don't have to pull from the wall. Glad you guys can be comfy there now in your "living" room and enjoy it to its full use. Growing up, my mom decided she wanted her large rectangular dining table at the end of their living room, by the sliding glass doors going outside.. so that's what they did! It seems strange at first, but we grew to love the view looking outside. The "normal" dining room only had a small window looking out to a fence! So a dining room can be anywhere you want it! xoxo Marilyn

  37. Kris,
Love your dining area!! Love the placement by the window!! Many years ago before the kids when we were first married we had a bistro table in the Kitchen. Then we had to move into the Dining Room as our family grew and I had the counter bar built in the Kitchen for more storage and counter space! Catching up on posts that I missed...
    Hugs,
    Deb

  39. Those little fairy ornaments are so sweet! I love how the space turned out Kris. I think I mentioned this before but I just love the blue and white floral curtains! I also love the vintage fireplace insert you have. I have been on the hunt for one for in our master. Merry Christmas my friend!

  40. I didn't roll my eyes...I promise sincerely. But I did murmur to myself how much I admired you ability to admit when something wasn't working for you and to jump in to make a change to improve your space. I often am inclined to avoid too many changes too close together...for fear of regretting it later.
But then I also live with things that are not functional tooooo long.
I like your new dining space and think it is a good choice of position in the bay window.
