New Cottage Rug and Chairs

Good Monday Morning Sweet Friends.
I have the hardest time finding a rug.  How about you?
I am hesitant to buy a rug on line for fear it will not be the true color it appears to be on line.
Then it is such a big hassle to try and return it if it is not right.
I try to find rugs in places like Home Goods, Target, Pier One where I can see it in person.
That can be a challenge because of selection.

I found this rug at Home Goods.   Loved it in the store and it went pretty good with my drapes however it is a miss because of the size.  Too small.  I would want something that could go all the way across the room and under my sectional.
Here is my design assistant.  Notice anything unusual in this picture.  Hmmm there is a fluffy doggie blanket and a comfy doggie bed and where does my design assistant like to be!!!
Yep on the cushion on the back of the couch lol!
So the first rug went back to Home Goods and then I found this 8x10 rug and it fits in the room perfectly.  The blues and whites and pattern are perfect for my cottage decor.

I found the two wing chairs on FB MarketPlace for a steal.  The lady had attempted to make her own slipcovers and while they look ok in the picture above,  trust me they are not.  The bottom of the chair cover and ruffle are sewn inside out and the back of the chairs have big gaps.

This is what the chairs look like before she attempted slipcovers.  They are study and comfy chairs with cute legs I might add.
Both of these chairs are getting new slipcovers made as I write this.  I will be excited to share those with you when they are completed.

New Rug in place and chairs getting new slipcovers.  I cannot wait to pull this room together.
Happy Monday.
Have a great week ahead.
PS: Please say a sanity prayer for me.  The siding as I write this is being torn off the house and new siding and gutters are going to be put back on.  Praying they do not find any big issues as they tear through three different layers of siding.  We ran into issues with the roof a few weeks ago and that had to be totally gutted and rebuilt!!!  These old homes can be a big challenge when you start to renovate.

  1. I love the newer rug. The pattern is lovely in your room. The blues are soothing. I know those two chairs will look fabulous when they are recovered. Prayers go out they don't find anymore damage when tearing off the siding. Those old houses have unknown issues sometimes. You are re-building the whole house and it will be perfect when finished. Then you can rest and enjoy your home. Hugs

  2. Good morning beloved Kris! Well, I love the second rug that fits better and the colors are perfect blue. Your chairs will have a wonderful feel to them. These wingback chairs are very comfortable; I've had my share of a few over the years and I'm currently enjoying a five dollar purchase from two years ago in PINK! LOL

Have a wonderful day. Both you and me, we are having some shattering issues today. You with your siding and me, waiting yet again to find out about health care as I am ready to push that "SEND" button to finalize my decision for my future.

  3. Gorgeous rug, while I love my vinyl plank floors, the rug in the main room cuts down the noise and is just cozy! Good luck on the siding. We need our roof done and driveway, but are holding off just a bit...! So much to do, we have just been here too long and have to do everything again, sigh! hugs, Sandi

  5. I agree the second rug looks a lot better. Not only size-wise, but the lighter colors go much better in the room, too. Looks fabulous! Buddy is so cute. My cats like to sleep on the back of the sofa/on top of the cushions, too. Good luck with the siding - hope all goes well without any problems!

  6. I will pray that the siding project will go smoothly! I just watched a new to me vlogger, a husband and wife team that I think are called thebiglittlehouse? The video on siding was helpful as he explained why so much original character had to be stripped away so that the siding could be installed or the original clapboard restored. I wish so much we could take off the siding here as we discovered that the old wood underneath is painted red and I've always loved red houses with white trim. But would we run into many problems if we did, that's the question. Part of what our family business does is installing Hardie siding so it's so tempting to try--if we can get our son to agree!

Your design assistant is a prince and knows it! I love your blue blanket with dachshunds on it! Do you remember where you got it? James Mason would look so handsome on it!

    That blue rug is scrumptious!

  8. I'm loving the rug Kris and great deal on the chairs. I can't wait to see them when done.

I can imagine the noise factor with the roof and siding. Poor you and Buddy. He must be crazy with the noise.

Looking forward to all the changes.

    Here's to your sanity🙏,

    Cindy

  9. I love the way your new rug looks Kris. Those are really nice chairs and they will look great with the new slipcovers. Hoping the siding goes well for you and no problems. Buddy is just the cutest and funny how he likes laying on the top of the couch like that! Take care Kris and good luck.

  10. Kris, I like the bigger rug . I am praying you have no bad issues with the siding or gutters. Yes, aren't dog funny. My daughters has two huge dog beds in her house and both dogs want to sleep in the same one at the same time. It's crazy. Blessings to you, be safe. xoxo, Susie

  11. Oh my gosh, I just gasped at that rug. It's gorgeous. They both are, but the second one is my favorite. And I can't wait to see those pretty slipcovers. Hope that siding gets done super soon. xo

  12. Best of luck with the siding! Always something with an old house. Your new rug is very pretty! The new chairs will look great. I admire, as always, how much you manage to get done.

  13. I like the 2nd choice for it's more muted blue and I agree the size is better. Love how you are able to find so many great buys on Marketplace. It seems that I am never quite as lucky...always already pending and the buyer follows through. Your slip cover gal with make it right for you for sure.
I have ordered rugs on line, and true the color can be a "not what I expected" situation. The one that came that way, it bolder than I had thought I wanted. But I am actually quite in love with it, so I guess the online rug gurus knew better than I. Lol. Can't wait to see it all pulled together.

  14. Hi, can you tell me where you bought the doggie blanket?

  15. The rug is perfect and those chairs will be too when they are slip covered!

  16. Buying a rug is so challenging! Love the one you found. I bought one from Overstock, kept my fingers crossed it would be decent and whew! it was and the colors were true to the picture. I'd much rather see and feel it in person though before buying though. I actually cringed when I saw the slipcovers. I was so relieved you hadn't bought those to cover the chairs. Yikes! Haha, Buddy. So funny. That made me laugh out loud! Can't wait to see the room done! I know it's going to be fabulous.
Good luck with the siding. Hope they don't uncover any issues!

  17. I love the rug and I too have a problem buying one. Right now I am looking for a 10x14 or a little smaller one that is mainly blue. My Hubby works at a stone yard and although he takes off his shoes before he comes in, sometimes he forgets. Heck, even on the weekends he may forget. So, I have to be careful what color to buy. I also have to stay in a budget, but want one that will last.

  18. Prayers that no more nasty surprises surface! Love the new rug! The shape of the chairs is very graceful and lovely. You find great stuff. Of course the design assistant would pick that particular place to survey anything that is going on. Better vantage point. xoxo

  19. That rug looks great and I like that your putting a pop of color in the room! My one cat insists on sleeping on the back of the sofa too. I resorted to putting a cover over the area to reduce the cat hair build up. I wish you the best of luck with the siding. The roof sounds like it was expensive!

  20. I've lived in old houses. It's hit and miss not knowing what you'll find. Like buying a lottery ticket. I love both the rugs. Makes me wish I'd decorated in blue and white!

  21. I love the rug Kris! I have a question, are the chairs going where the table and chairs eating area is? Set me straight please. I love your house! I live in a small house too so I watch all the changes you make for guidance.

  22. I totally love that rug; they can work magic in a room. Great chairs, Kris. you have amazing sources for slipcovers, they will be beautiful. oh the siding, gosh, I go a little berserk with the noise. It will all look fabulous when finished!

  23. Old houses can definitely comes with hidden problems but you can't get the same character in a new build. I love the blue carpet and those chairs will be perfect covered.

  24. Kris, the rug is perfect. Loved the first one too but like this sizing better. Beautiful chairs. I have always loved that style and with new covers will be so stunning. Good luck on the siding. You don't have to tell me what can happen with an old house..Stay well..xxoJudy

  25. Kris, I like both rugs. It's too bad you didn't have another spot for the smaller one too. Isn't it hard for slip covers to be made without actually having the chair or sofa at hand? Can't wait to see the finished project. Beautiful home. Sandra

  27. I love it all. I love the colors!

  28. Kris you made a good choice on that second rug! Very calm colors and I like the lighter color. It amazes me what you find on Marketplace. I've never shopped through them but looks like some very good deals. I guess you'll need to put that doggie blanket up on the back of your couch! Our cats love the back of our loveseat as it is right by the window (only because I have to please my cats!)... so I keep a pretty blanket on the back for them to lay on, then can wash it now and then when the cat hair starts showing! Easier than trying to clean the couch off. We had cat beds on the floor, but they'd rather be up high.. I guess doggies are the same way! Best of luck on the siding and hope no new issues crop up! Take care... Marilyn

  29. Whoa! What happened to the table and chairs?
Love the chairs and rug. Saying a prayer the siding's not covering up some big hole or something else that has to be fixed!

  31. I'm curious about the 3 layers of siding-what are they? I have siding that may be asbestos and I really want it gone! Both rugs are pretty too

    1. Hi Donna. There is aluminum, shaker and a wood siding on this house. The Shaker shingles are in horrible shape and we found some water damage and some of the outside walls needed repair before they could get ready to put down the new vinyl siding. Oh no asbestos that sounds pretty scary. We did not have to deal with that. Just working on getting this done. Going on day three tomorrow. Have a good week.

  32. Hi Kris,
Praying that things went well with the siding. I understand how one thing leads to another and it seems like a never-ending circle. We have an older home too. And have redone most of it. The kitchen is next, but I am waiting at this time. The kitchen is still busy when you have kids at home. Ha!
I love the color you have added.
    AND...

Hi Buddy!! Ha, I love that you like to sit where you do. ;-)
