Hello Sweet Friends. Happy Friday.
I have been showing you the challenges I have faced as we downsized to this tiny cottage home over the past year. When you live small you must utilize every inch of space you have. It has been a year of trying things that worked and others that did not.
With only two bedrooms and one of them being our office area we really do not have a guest room. I think I came up with a solution that will work.

This is my sectional with chaise that I just loved in my living room. I had Lisa take the Ikea slipcover a while ago and just add a new box pleat to it. Easy fix to make it look custom. Very comfy for Buddy and Me to lay on at night. Soooo it was a hard decision when I sold it.

I sold it and bought this Crate and Barrel sofa sleeper. I found it for a steal on FB MarketPlace. The lady used it in her guest room and it really did not get a lot of use. It was in pristine condition. I thought this would be a good solution with not having a guest room. I would still have my slipcovered look that I love.
|
|
It opens up to a full size bed. I added a mattress pad to the mattress already in the couch. Just will make it more comfy to sleep on. Crate and Barrel put in nice mattresses for their sofa sleeper but you know these sofa sleeper are notorious for not being comfortable to sleep. I think the padded mattress pad will help. I even thought of getting one of those blow up beds that we could blow up and lay on top of this open for more comfort.

|
My grandgirls love to spend the night and now they will have this pull out bed for sleepovers.
|
|
I put a couple of my fall pillows out on the new couch.
|
|
As you can see I have plenty of room in front of this sofa for a coffee table.
|
|
Found this sweet table on FB Marketplace. She had nice legs and a sweet little drawer for storage. This coffee table is going to get some love this weekend. Hope to show that soon. Have a wonderful weekend. Here in Illinois it is in the high 70's and just gorgeous. Hanging on to these pretty days because we all know what is coming in a few months!!!!

Love the new sofa and coffee table. This will be perfect for overnight guests.
ReplyDeleteSofa sleepers are great for guests that don't need a lot of privacy - like your granddaughters. Great solution. We used to have a sofa sleeper in the basement family room that several guests had used when we still had kids at home. Can't go wrong with a quality sofa from C&B either.
ReplyDeleteKris, I love how that sleeper sofas works out for you. It really an adorable room. I love the gallery wall , the rug and those pillows. Blessings , enjoy this awesome weather. xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI loved your old sofa, the skirt was so pretty! However I can understand the need to be able to sleep guests when living in a cottage and the new sofa offers the space. It looks really nice in your living room and I love your new coffee table. I can't wait to see how you transform it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!!

Hey Kris!! This is a great solution for you. Having a sleeper sofa is really smart; we have one in Ruben's office that is a great leather couch for daily use but folds out for guests. You always find the best "shabby chic" style pieces to reuse and relove! The table is going to be FUN to paint!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful and I love the rug. Can I ask where you got it?
ReplyDeleteSo lovely! Gorgeous rug, too. I have the worst time finding rugs that I like in colours that work for me. What a great find in that coffee table - the lines are beautiful. Way to go Kris!! Have a happy weekend xoxox
ReplyDeleteI loved your old sofa and especially the box pleat slipcover but I totally understand why you'd want a pull out sofa bed for your grands. Those are the best memories both for us grandparents and our grandbabies. Here's to many fun filled sleepovers with your granddaughters!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very clever solution!
ReplyDeleteGreat solution to small living! We're having showers today and tomorrow - aftermath of Delta's far-reaching path.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great solution. And it looks so pretty! Just a note on the air beds...we used one when we first bought the farmhouse...our guests said it was cold so we would put a thick sleeping bag ( unzipped and opened up) as a mattress cover. It helped. Can't wait to see the coffee table dolled up! Enjoy your mild weather!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cecilia
Looks like a great find for you and the grandgirlies. :0) Score again. The sofa bed will come in handy it seems...I had a very nice one years ago and had it recovered, and then next move gave it to the realtor from whom we purchased our house. I sort of missed it for a while. :0( ..Can't wait to see the new sofa/coffee table after you get her done. :0) Happy Fall and Nesting Season..
ReplyDeleteps I, too, loved your old sofa..SCORE for the person who found that one from you..so pretty...but with that I would never get up...lol
ReplyDeleteIt's still fairly hot here. We did have cool nights for awhile there, but that is gone now. Yes, it is so hard to make the best use of a small home. You're doing great figuring out ways to deal with this problem. You have to squeeze every inch out of a space and then some!

Great idea and dual function to boot! I have one in a bedroom for the rare occasion we have both kids visiting and one can use our downstairs bedroom and the upstairs.
ReplyDeleteLive this Kris and the girls will love it I'm swooning over your fall pillows. Love the softness, these are my kind of fall pillows.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Cindy
Your other sofa was pretty but this one is pretty and practical. This is perfect for the grandgirls! The table will be lovely after you work your magic on her. We are having perfect fall weather. Makes me almost wish I hadn't put away all my summer clothes. Enjoy your weekend. Hope all is well. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love the way your LR looks now Kris and it's perfect for when your grandkids come and sleep over.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been a really hard thing for you to do Kris - selling your lovely sectional. However, what a wonderful solution to providing a guest room. Having those girls to stay will really make it worth while. Not to mention the benfit of freeing up more space. Looking forward to seeing the transformation of that coffee table. Enjoy that beautiful weather, it has turned SO cold here now. Hugs, Gilly
ReplyDeleteKris, you live and learn, and that really works for you because you always come up with something better. Love the idea and it looks like you have so much room in there. I have never tried FB Marketplace, but I am going to check it out. You sure do get some great bargains on there. The coffee table is perfect after a little bit of paint and love..Stay well..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteHi Kris, I know I already paid you a visit on this post but I just have to tell you. If you read my post today, you will see that my daughter said a gift for our anniversary was on the way. Right after I put the post out the package landed on our porch and you won't believe what it is. The "Together" picture you have hanging in your guest room is what we got. OMG, I just love it and can't wait until next week to show where I hung it..Stay well and enjoy the rest of the week..xxoJudy
DeleteSuch a great little sleeper. Now, you have a place for the grandgirls to sleep when they visit. You are the queen of finding such awesome finds. Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteThat should work, sleeper sofas aren't as bad as they used to be...and it is the perfect size for your room. Always fun to have the Grands. Ours hasn't been over nite since the pandemic started. Maybe for the holidays, she can stay, I really need help with the decorations and she loves the village. Hugs, Sandi
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect and they won't notice the "more comfortable or not". Those little girls won't care one bit. They will be at your house and that is the only important thing to them!
ReplyDeleteI love the looks of it and I bet the room feels bigger now, too?
Have a good Sunday. Off to Door County to close up the camper before the rain comes. Will email you later! xo Diana
Great solution! Love the new sofa bed! Wish I was closer! I would've bought your sectional!😁 Have a great Sunday! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Love the sofa. My grandkids aren't allowed in my apartment building during the pandemic so I don't have any overnight guests. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteVery good solution for sleepovers! I like the sofa. It looks comfortable both as a sofa and as a bed! Oooo I look forward to seeing what you do with the coffee table. I like its silhouette!
ReplyDeleteLOVE what you have done Kris!!!! Your guest room/office us beautiful and sooooo inviting and comfortable. Great find on FB Marketplace! I've got to check that out. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteKathleen
Kris, I so love what you have done here! Girl, loving that sofa and what a way to have the best of both worlds in a room. So very pretty. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI love your problem solving. It all looks fantastic. I love your autumn pillows.
ReplyDeleteYou rock at finding and selling on FB Marketplace. High Fives.
Carla
I hear you, Kris! We live in a small space as well and lots of rooms have to pull double duty and it's always a trial and error kind of game. I think your new sleeper looks amazing in the room and is so functional. The girls will love it. Plenty of room for a popcorn movie night and then a grandma and pop sleepover! So many memories in ht making! xo
ReplyDeleteAgain, it looks so lovley! Facebook marketplace is a great place to find some neat treasures for sure.
ReplyDeleteMany hugs,
Karen B.
I have one of those couches that the back drops down to make a bed. It is more like 3/4 size but is perfect for the oldest Grand Girl who has to sleep by herself. I think that was a good solution to the visitor problem. Sometimes we just have to appreciate the special thought we have given to visitors and remember we are not the George V in Paris.
