Moved In and Bargain Chandelier

We closed on this townhome on Friday and moved in.  We left over 10 bags of garbage besides the recycle and regular cans filled for our first garbage pick up.  I cannot imagine what the garbage man thinks of us with all this garbage on the first pick up lol!

Our movers were supposed to be here on Friday after we closed in the afternoon at 2:30.  They had an issue with the first move of their morning.  They did not get to us until 5:30 to unload the truck.  By the time we got the truck unloaded and back the truck rental place it was almost 8pm.  We had not eaten so we stopped for a quick bite.  Then we began painting and painting until about 1am Friday.  We bought a new bed and it was not going to be delivered until the next morning so Terry and I were so tired from unpacking and painting we showered and passed out cold on the sectional to sleep.

Saturday there was an issue with our bed.  They had the old address for delivery even though we verified it three times and it said the new address right on the invoice!!!! Then there were a few other issues with them getting it to the new place on that Saturday.

After several phone calls and a lot of stress we still were not going to get our bed on Saturday.  They had it on the truck and were 45 minutes away from the new address and they refused to deliver until the next delivery day.  Well the next delivery day was not until Tuesday!!!!

Mind you it was Saturday so Tuesday was three more sleeps on the sectional.  After a lot of arguments and no customer service to speak of we caved from stress and being tired.  No bed until Tuesday.  I was going to get a blow up mattress but we decided the sectional was going to be ok to sleep.
Our aching muscles and bones then slept on the sectional for three more nights until the bed was delivered yesterday.  I was so excited to have our new bed in place.  We tried out a lot of beds and fell in love with one in the showroom of the furniture store.
We were both excited we would have a bed last night.

It was another late night yesterday but Terry was returning to work so we climbed into the new bed last night only to find out it was not the right mattress.  Too firm!!!!
Now a days you can get your mattress firm on one side and soft on the other etc.  Terry and I both liked the medium firm.  Like in
Goldilocks Not too firm and not too soft just perfect in the middle choice.
That is not the one we got.  Today we are working on getting the new bed exchanged and the right mattress delivered.  Hopefully without any issues.
I do not know about all of you but I feel there is no compassion or customer service left in this world.  No one seems to want to help you especially when it was their fault and not ours.

I would like them to sleep without a comfy bed every night for 4 nights when you have been painting and unpacking into the late hours overnight.  Let's see how they like it.

We have been painting and painting and more painting.  The company that owned this home painted all the walls a builder grade flat cheap paint.
The Behr Marque paint we bought that is very expensive by the way and suppose to cover in one coat was taking two to three coats.  The ceiling and walls were soaking up the paint like a sponge.  Double and triple the already large list of painting and things to do.

They also have old builders grade doors and plastic dark brown 90's trim and moldings.  So much tedious painting.
We got a lot accomplished in the three days here but still have so much more to go.

During one of the breaks letting a coat of paint dry before the next coat,  Terry hung my FB Market Place bargain chandelier over the dining room table.  Hard to grab a great picture but this is a very French cottage chic chandelier.  Bargained it down to $100 dollars.  At night it is gorgeous all lite up.  My camera phone does not do this beautiful chandy justice.

We found a great FB Marketplace bargain on custom made plantation shutters for the sliding door off the kitchen.  Drapes will go and the new shutters will go in place.

I was able to make my chandelier from the old dining room work in the entry of the new place.  Oh how I love this chandelier I have had for years.
It looks pretty hanging in the entry way.

Home Sweet Home is beginning to take shape.  Stay with me and as rooms come together and decor gets hung I will have more to show.

We had the company putting in new counter tops here measuring yesterday.  Also ordered new cabinet doors for the kitchen cabinets.  In a few weeks those should be arriving.

I think once we feel like this is home we will be very happy here.
We had orientation at the clubhouse yesterday.  We have three pools, pickleball courts, tennis courts and three golf courses.  You can even have your own golf cart.
They have a restaurant and so far very nice neighbors.

Stay tuned for more in the coming days.
Hugs,
Kris

  2. I hear you on the customer service situation. It will all get straightened out, but it's hair pulling in the meantime. Moving is such a stressor, but you're in and Terry is better. 2 big blessings. Your pics are gorgeous. So much light and space. It's really lovely Kris!

  3. I swear, you guys have done more in just a few days of moving in than we've done in 34 years, lol!! I can't imagine moving in AND painting like that. I hear you on the ugly brown trim. We have that around all our windows still. I hate it, but we are not DIYers, so it's stayed. When we had the guest bedroom painted a few years ago, we had the painters paint the trim white instead of replacing it. We are thinking of moving in the next year or so, so now I don't want to be doing anything much in this house anyway, so the brown trim stays. I am so sorry about the bed problems. That's crazy. You're right - customer service sucks these days. The only two companies that have good customer service that I've dealt with are Amazon and Chewy. Can't wait to follow along on your new house journey!

  4. Wow that was a lot. I can't believe how much you have gotten finished. Where do you and Terry get your energy. Can you ship some to our house?

Love both chandeliers. Customer service and respect seems to be extinct today. Such a shame. Looking forward to seeing more!

  6. You two are the consummate homemakers, hassles and all. I guess I can believe how awful your customer service has been. What in the world is wrong with people and companies now? I am amazed at those plantation shutters for your sliding glass doors, how cool! Will they slide, be stationary, or open outward? Your chandeliers are both gorgeous. You have a magic touch with your cottage decorating. I really look forward to your updates, Kris. Thanks for sharing.

  7. YAY, I am happy this is moving along, so disappointed for both of you regarding the moving and new bed. Hubbs and I are 70 and I certainly hope our movng experience is better in 6 months. Great information on the builder grade walls. I might start with a primer before I paint.
I am so happy for your new adventure. Terrific news that you are surrounded by fun new friends

  9. Oh nothing worse than waiting on something then getting the wrong one! So inconvenient and frustrating. Hope you get the bed fiasco sorted out soon. The shutters will look great! Behr is my go to paint. It usually covers well…makes you wonder about the existing paint. I do agree with you - customer service ain’t what it used to be!

  13. Kris, I am glad to hear that you are all moved in but sorry to hear about the troubles with the bed. I hope you get that all sorted out. You and Terry are working so hard on the house and I know it will look beautiful when you are finished and I can't wait to see how you decorate it. The area sounds so nice with all of the pools, pickeball, and golf, and you will both have a fun and relaxing time. Good luck

  15. Hello, Yay, you are moved. :-)
I am sorry about the mattress/bed. We just purchased a new mattress, we love it. We have a family owned furniture store in our city of Rice Lake that we like to use to purchase furniture. Our boys were in 4-H with their kiddos. ;-)
I cannot wait to hear more about your neighborhood.

  16. I cannot believe it was the wrong mattress after making you wait for days!! That is just wrong, but I get it, and sadly agree with you. No one seems to care anymore. I really hope that the rest of your orders and deliveries go off without a hitch. In the meantime, at least you have bright new walls and gorgeous chandeliers...and those plantation shutters for the door?? Marketplace?? Wow, what a lucky find! I wonder if you can find a golf cart there, too, because I think I see one in your future!! xo and congratulations!!

  19. Kris, I am tired just reading about all of the work you two have put in. But, you have accomplished a lot! I agree there is no customer service anymore. I will anticipate each new post. Do take some time to rest if at all possible.
