One Week Progress on the New Home

One of the projects crossed off the list is repainting the front door and putting on new locks.
All of our doors in our section of homes have to be the same color.  Our color is
Phillipsburg Blue one of the historic colors of Benjamin Moore.

I was in charge of painting the door.  It took two coats and went on smoothly and pretty easy.  Terry put the new locks on and one project was crossed off the to do list.  Yay!!!

Door trim and base moldings painted and the new plantation sliders put on the sliding door to the back area.  The back area is all wooded.

Ok that red deck freshly painted will be getting a color change eventually.  It was beautifully painted but this cute house is yellow and white and very cottage like.  The red decks on these places not so much.  We can paint the decks any color we want.  I think a nice white will do down the road.

Another big project crossed off the list was taking off all the door fronts and drawer fronts off the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity.  We ordered new white doors and hardware to re hang.
Those should be coming soon

Besides the cabinets being transformed the counters top of formica will be a thing of the past soon.  We ordered new quartz counter tops for the kitchen and bathroom.

There was a row of cabinets across this kitchen wall.  Four of them were taken down and put above the washer and dryer in the laundry room.
Those too will be getting new fronts and were painted white.  There was nothing in the laundry room but the washer and dryer now I have storage with the cabinets being moved.

The open space on the wall where the cabinets were will be getting some kind of cool focal point.

As you can see all the walls have been painted in the whole place.  The bedroom will not be painted as wainscoting and wallpaper will be going in there.
I have to tell you Terry was a real sport to paint all the walls and
ceilings in the past week.  With that paint problem it was two to three coats on everything.  That was a lot of painting.

The old brown doors throughout the condo have all be taken down and replaced with new doors that are white.  All the trim had to be painted another big painting job.
We were so happy to find out that Habitat for Humanity would take all the doors and cabinet fronts for their shops.  So happy they are being recycled and not thrown in a land fill.

This is the new wainscoting that will go up in the entry way and also around three of the four walls in our bedroom.

This is the new wallpaper for our bedroom to go with the wainscoting

It is so pretty in person.  Light blue background with pretty white flowers.
Very bright and cheerful.

As soon as we can get all the things off the to do list we can begin the decorating part.  My favorite part.

Trying to be patient until all the work is done so the decor can begin to go up on the walls.  In the meantime everything is still wrapped in the garage.

The guy on the entry gate told me you are not totally moved in until both cars can go in the garage lol!!!!  He is so right.

Remember the drama with the bed.  Well after all we went through and days without a bed it finally got delivered.  That night I went to make the bed and get it ready for our first sleep and was looking forward not another night on couch.  I was so excited only to have my dreams crushed to find out it was not right.  It was the firmest mattress not the middle firm.

You know the story of goldilocks.  There was the firm papa bear and the middle firm but soft momma bear and then the squishy baby bear.
We were suppose to get the firm but soft Mamma bear bed.  Instead we got the firm papa bear.
OMG what a crazy mess.
So we have been sleeping on this very firm hard bed until they can trade out this one for the right one.  That will be coming sometime on Thursday.

The crazy world Terry and I live in sometimes.  Nothing seems to ever just go right and normal.

Stay tuned for more up dates as we are headed to the finish line.
I am so proud of how much we have accomplished in a week.

It is beginning to feel like a home.

We are headed to Michigan this coming Labor Day Weekend.  We cannot wait to lay around and float in the pool and hang out on Lake Michigan and the beach.

The last vacation to Michigan was when negotiations were going on with the buy and sale of the houses.  Not relaxing at all.  This time should be a lot more rest and relaxing time.

Have a great new week.
Hugs,
Kris

  2. It's impressive how much work y'all have done! And I LOVE your wallpaper. So sorry about your bed: That's so annoying! We have a saying here: Check the bag! Like when you purchase food out, and the order is never right?!?! It works for everything because when you are dealing with humans, things often are not done correctly, especially the fulfillment of orders. I think people are terribly distracted these days! We have a sofa being delivered on Thursday. Fingers crossed it's what we ordered!

  4. Oh girl! There’s always some drama, right? I’d be beyond annoyed with the whole bed thing. Hopefully it will be sorted soon. The plantain shutters look amazing as does the front door. It’s a pretty color. Love your wallpaper for the bedroom! The back deck, well let’s just say even from the peek I can see, the color clashes. Y’all have done a lot of work in a short time! Looking forward to the decorating stage.

  6. Every time I think about moving in 6 months, I kind of have a panic attack.
the good thing is we do not need to sell and get out of this huge old beast of a house in order to buy the new house - all thanks to a generous gift from my dear loving father that none of us knew about until after his passing. Anyway, Both of you have accomplished very very much and that is excellent. What a stinking bummer about the bed. Jeeeeez. What brand is this thing, or the company? I want to make sure I do not wade into that situation unknowingly.
How long is your drive to Lake Michigan? I thought both of you reside in Ohio? I forgot.
the wall paper and the wainscoting looks fabulous. Now you have me on fire for cool stuff. Did you order the wainscoting from Homie Depot or another company? Superb and well done.
I am so happy for both of you

  10. The place looks awesome. I love that wainscoting and the wallpaper. I'm so funny since most of my house is rustic and Texas but I do love the softer things too. I have one guest room that leans toward vintage. I've never heard of having to have the same color of front door as the rest of the houses. How interesting. Are all the houses white or a mix? Just curious. Can't wait to see how you decorate. Have a great week.

  16. Oh, I love it all that yall have so far accomplished! (How surprising, right..since your homes are always "picture perfect". :0) ) ... Love the umbrella door wreath, also..so cute. I hope you both have an extraordinary relaxing vacation..so well deserved by both of you hardworkers. Our double garage always fits only one car, sadly.. :0).. Take care and I think you got lucky with that non-optional blue color for the door, too. :0)
