Re love sconces and musical furniture pieces

Ok you need to pay close attention to this post.  There are going to be a lot of movement of pieces lol!

It all started with a fireplace mantel we got from our Michigan trip.  Terry took it apart and made the top part into a shelf for my kitchen.
I love it.  You can see in this picture the counters are in but backsplash is not.  Tomorrow the backsplash pieces will be installed and this kitchen will be done.  I will show more pictures in the future.

Ok this is one of the side leg pieces to the old vintage mantel.  Terry made them into a pair of sconce holders.

We found these old metal candle holders.  Perfect to make into a sconce.  The legs of the mantel and these chippy rustic candle holders were married to make the best sconces.

The sconces sit on each side of my old arch window above the sectional.

Now onto the musical furniture part.  This is the piece we found in Michigan.  I loved it but when I put it in the living room with all my chippy white cottage it just seemed off.  More farmhouse than cottage to me.

Years ago I got this old alter piece from Liz Marie's old farmhouse.  She is one of the owners of the Found Cottage.  Liz Marie as many of you might know is a big blogger in blog, has grown her name and appears on several home shows.
I am honored to have one of her pieces in my home.
My daughter had this piece when we moved into our last house because I had not place for it.  I loved it and so did she so she hung onto it.

My daughter and I were talking and she said she needed a small buffet piece for her house and she loved this one I had in the back of the kitchen.

As some of you might remember this is the buffet we had under the TV when we first moved in.  It looked nice but when we got the farmhouse piece it was moved to let that piece hold the TV.
Are you keeping up with all of this lol!

To make a long story short my daughter took the small buffet I had in the kitchen and the farmhouse piece for her house.
I got the old alter piece back for the TV.

The larger buffet piece that once held the TV is now in the kitchen being used as an actual buffet.

The buffet has a new place.  The old alter is now back in my home and holding up the TV and my daughter is happy with the smaller buffet and farmhouse cabinet.
She has a long farmhouse table in her dining area and the farmhouse cabinet matches almost perfect with her table.  This all worked out so nicely for both of us.

One more day and the backsplashes will be installed and then the kitchen and bathroom will be done.

We are settled in pretty well.
The only room left to do in this house is our office areas.
Found a good desk and chair for Terry and we will begin to fix his area and mine up soon.

As soon as I have the kitchen all done this weekend I will post pictures on the new counters and the finished kitchen and bath.

It has only been 6 weeks since we moved in but it seems like a lot longer.  It is nice as the weekends and holidays approach we do not have to be painting or redoing something in this place.
It is feeling like home.
I went to a ladies party night at our clubhouse with some friends and it was so much fun.
Learned to play a new game that was a lot of fun for cash prices.
We ate and drank and played 8 rounds of this game.
I think at my next girlfriend party We will added this new game.

It was nice to get involved and meet some new women that live in here.
Have a great rest of the week.
Praying for all of you in Florida that were in the path of Milton.
Hugs,
Kris

  2. So nice that you and your daughter can trade out pieces. LOVE the alter piece, and you're right the other cabinet was very utilitarian farmhouse. Can't wait to see your kitchen when the counters are finished!

  3. I'm so glad you are making friends and enjoying all that your community has to offer, Kris! That's wonderful. I think the place looks amazing. I love the fact that you and your. daughter can swap furniture. You haven't lived there very long so it's understandable that it might take some time to figure out what is right in the space. I think you found a lovely balance...can't wait to see the countertop reveals!

  5. Yes Kris - I did manage to keep up with the musical furniture switch-around! Great that your daughter now has those pieces in her home and that you got back the altar piece for your tv! It's hard to believe that you have only been in there for such a short time, you both have achieved so much. I'm pleased that you now have some outside space and a decent garage too. Enjoy your new happy home! Hugs from Gilly (UK) xoxo

  6. Lol, musical furniture! It’s great you were able to trade back your altar piece with your daughter. The farmhouse piece was sweet but it sounds like it’s a better match for your daughter’s decor. I like the buffet in the kitchen. And I was right! Sconces! I love them. Can’t wait to see the kitchen all finished. Glad you are settling in and finding new friends, too. Everything is coming together!

  9. I love the sconces, you and Terry are a great team. I can’t wait to see the finished kitchen. I did keep up with the musical furniture. It is funny, some things work well in our vision and some do not. It is wonderful that you could do a swap with your daughter and both of you are pleased with the results. I love the buffet in your kitchen. Happy Weekend, Kris!

  11. It is great to have daughters. I love mine. we are always switching furniture.
    Life is good.
Your place looks so nice. I did like the piece you had for the tv, but I agree, it was a bit too rustic and the replacement piece is very pretty. I am glad you got the buffet back, it is perfect in the kitchen. Is this place bigger or smaller than your condo? do you have stairs or just one level?
    Yay for meeting new friends.

  12. Wow, girl, one thing I know for sure....when the backsplash is in, it WON'T be done. Nothing is ever done when it comes to your decorating skills. The best thing about your style (cottage) and color scheme (neutral) is that it is all so fluid. I do love the altar and the buffet you took back. Looks great, Kris. I just wish my projects were further along than they are currently, and you know what I'm talking about. Have a good weekend.

  13. Musical furniture is fun! I like the changes you made. And LOVE the sconces you and Terry made - gorgeous! Can't wait to see your new countertops and backsplash. I was at a friend's house in Chicago yesterday and she has Corian countertops, too. They are gray, look like concrete (the look she was going for)...loved them. She said she's very happy with them though they do naturally scratch a bit. She's OK with that and so am I. Corian is definitely going on my list to look at for countertops. Have a great weekend!

  15. We call that fruit basket upset here...I know when I moved three long tables/desks from other places into the extra bedroom/office it caused a huge UPSET, which isn't done yet. Flexibility I think is a sign of intelligience...my mom would have disagreed as her home was done in 1963 and never changed one iota until her death in 2006. Honestly the dents in the carpet were to Hades. Love your progress, and yes, finding ones' 'center' takes time, love all your redone pieces. Hugs, Sandi

  16. That was always one of my favorite pieces you owned and I am SOOO glad you got it back. I love it in your new home. You are right- you aren't really 'rustic' and that piece was definitely rustic. Perfect choice. LOL about Jen bargaining with you....she got two new pieces and you got one of your own pieces back. lol. Mother/daughter love trade there. lol

I LOVE that buffet and if I come to the girlfriend party this year you better watch it doesn't end up in the back of my suv. lol

House is just perfect for you, Kris. xo xo xo Diana
