Neutral Girl Brings Color to her Cottage Walls

You know how I love my whites and neutrals in my home.
Well..... during the sunny days this looks really bright and pretty.  Since I do not have a fancy camera just my iPhone I have a hard time really capturing the pretty in pictures.

Anyway this is the before sitting area.  Lots and lots of white.

We took everything out of this area and I picked out a neutral warmer color for the walls.  I went with Sherwin Williams Casablanca.  Normally I am a Behr paint girl but I could not find a warm beige I liked so it was Sherwin Williams.   It is a creamy beige in the white family.  I have a hard time with cream colors in this home.  The beiges always pick up green and the walls then look green to me.

I was really careful to pick a cream color way away from the blue or green zones.  I stayed in the yellow zone.  I also put the swatches on the wall for a few days to see how they looked in the light of day and at night.

In the past I have found colors for the walls and at night time the walls would take on a whole other color.  To avoid this I put the swatches up for a 24 hour period to see it in the different lights.

The color is Casablanca.  It is a light cream almost the same color as my sectional.  Soft but it brings some warmth into the room.

This is the sitting area with the new wall color.  The new color helps to  bring some color to all my white decor on the walls  and makes the whites pop.  It is a gloomy freezing rain day so this color is a nice addition on these gloomy days.

This is the top of the cabinet that we re loved into a TV cabinet.  I did not like the pattern on the top of this cabinet.  I felt it looked dated and too 1980's for me.  I wanted something more farmhouse/cottage.

Soooo that wonderful man of mine is  re loving the top of this cabinet with his handy tools.  We are almost done with this piece and I will have that to show you hopefully this weekend.  Stay tuned.

I have to laugh because taking everything down off the walls to paint started a whole thing!!!!  I know you DIYer's know what I am talking about.
It was switch a roo with some pieces.  Now after switching some things to other walls it left me  a big area wall in the dining room to fill with a new treasure.
We are heading to Michigan tomorrow to my shops and I am hoping and
keeping fingers crossed I will find something to fill that wall space.

Wishing you all a good Friday and wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

  7. I really love that beige Kris! It adds just a little more warmth and does make the whites really WHITE! I never thought I'd like beige, my my new little home had all a tannish beige wall, that almost looked like a light chcolate mik! and I really like it.. is warm in the winter and seems cool in the summer, and the white and light beige things I have really stand out. I guess I'm now a beige girl! Have fun on your next adventure! Marilyn

  16. I like it Kris! If I find a paint color I like I usually go to Home Depot and tell them the color name and manufacturer and they have the dupe on file. I really like working with the Behr paint and have used it for years. I used to use Benjamin Moore but Home Depot has the mimic for all their colors-and it's quite a lot cheaper.

I love the new paint color on your walls and yes, it warms the area up a bit and makes the whites really pop. Is that the same sofa that you had? I love how it looks in your home. I miss my white sofa but between Scruffy and Coco it would be an ongoing disaster. lol. They are worth the change.

Hope you found something for your bare wall that you love and that Terry The Magic Man got the top of the cabinet looking the way you want it to look. xo Diana

  17. I think paint colors are so hard to decide! I fret over them and do what you do and leave the swatches up for a while. You chose a beautiful one and it makes your white things pop. I’ll look forward to seeing your redo of your cabinet’s top.
